the following is to test your intuitive concept, it is not a test of your mathematical skills.
answer the following question within 3 seconds of reading it.
do not calculate or even estimate the answer.
a stack of hundred dollar bills equaling 1 million dollars is 40 inches high.
how high is a stack of one hundred dollar bills equaling a trillion dollars?
answer immediately, without thinking.
thanks
July 21, 2011 7:03 pm at 7:03 pm #788055ronrsrMember4million inches
July 21, 2011 7:06 pm at 7:06 pm #788056Derech HaMelechMemberI thought 40 again.
But I’m really bad at math and didn’t know how much a trillion is. After looking it up I’m guessing the correct answer would be 40 million inches or 3 1/3 million feet.
July 21, 2011 7:07 pm at 7:07 pm #788057mommamia22ParticipantI know I’ll hate myself for answering first. I’m terrible in math, but I’d guess 4,000 inches (don’t laugh). A billion would be 100x that of a million, and a trillion would be 100x that of a billion, right? Please let me be right!
July 21, 2011 7:08 pm at 7:08 pm #788058YW Moderator-80MemberNO MATH!!
what is your feeling?
ronsr, who obviously estimated, ill undelete your post in a while
derech who actually looked it up, come on
cant you people follow directions?

Pleas dont try to figure it out
July 21, 2011 7:11 pm at 7:11 pm #788060YW Moderator-80Memberokay nevermind this obviously isnt going to work
its approximately 650 miles
July 21, 2011 7:18 pm at 7:18 pm #788061Derech HaMelechMemberWhat was the hypothesis this experiment was based on?
July 21, 2011 7:20 pm at 7:20 pm #788062mommamia22ParticipantOh my goodness, how could anyone figure it out? Thank you though. I needed a little bit of comic relief from recent events.
July 21, 2011 7:28 pm at 7:28 pm #788063YW Moderator-80Memberthe hypothesis is that people have an extremely underestimated concept of a trillion dollars when they hear the word.
i guess well never know
July 21, 2011 7:28 pm at 7:28 pm #788064bortezomibParticipantWhat in the world was the point of that experiment?
One look at that question and my brain started to hurt.
Good thing you gave the answer or I would’ve been nervous all day.
July 21, 2011 7:50 pm at 7:50 pm #788065HaLeiViParticipantBefore or after taxes? You see, the taller the pile the bigger the percentage you’d have to give.
July 21, 2011 8:14 pm at 8:14 pm #788066mik5ParticipantI have no idea. My guess is 40.
July 21, 2011 8:18 pm at 8:18 pm #788067oomisParticipant400,000 ” high ???
July 21, 2011 8:22 pm at 8:22 pm #788068wanderingchanaParticipantfirst thought: a lot!
July 21, 2011 8:40 pm at 8:40 pm #788069ny100kParticipantI’m not sure what this is supposed to test. A trillion is a million millions. 40 inches x 1,000,000 = 40,000,000 inches or 3,333,333 feet or 631.31 miles.
July 21, 2011 9:27 pm at 9:27 pm #788070littleappleMemberIt should be 40 million inches , because 1 million times 1 thousand equals a billion times 1 thousand equals a trillion therefore 40 inches times 1 thousand times 1 thousand equals 40 million which is the answer, correct?
July 21, 2011 10:20 pm at 10:20 pm #788071Another nameParticipantI don’t get it! Is this a joke?
July 21, 2011 11:07 pm at 11:07 pm #788072minyan galMemberMod 80: give my poor little brain a break. PLEASE post the answer.
