do you think a girl from 16 and over is appropriate to dress up up in brooklyn?
February 21, 2012 1:43 am at 1:43 am #896928longarekelMemberIf it calls attention to herself it’s not appropriate. If it doesn’t and she sort of blends in with the crowds of dressed-up people, then why not? I don’t know what it’s like in Brooklyn but this should be the determining factor.
February 21, 2012 3:03 am at 3:03 am #896929writersoulParticipantNo, no, NO!!! Let me dress up!!!!
February 21, 2012 4:20 am at 4:20 am #896930sem graduateMemberBefore I got married, I used to get dressed up like a chassidish married lady…. tons of make-up, wig, hat… to a/o on the street – i was a reg. married lady but to a/o who knew me – it was hysterical.
February 21, 2012 6:47 am at 6:47 am #896931HealthParticipantNow I know why D. Feldman and this lady from Lakewood dress the way they do -it’s a Purim Shpiel!
February 21, 2012 7:18 am at 7:18 am #896932ToiParticipantNo. Youve already heard stories about the negative outcomes. If you havent, heres one. A group of girls in city X dressed up on purim and hit the streets. they ended up in houses pretnding to collect. they ended up getting drunk. they ended up dancing with boys. they were all regular by girls who meant to go out and enjoy purim, nothing more. and look what happened. not smart.
February 21, 2012 1:40 pm at 1:40 pm #896933gavra_at_workParticipantSure, as long as it is not showy.
real israeli’s suggestion is a good one.

Sorry, the regular BY girls don’t go around pretending to collect, get drunk, dance with boys. Dressing up had nothing to do with it.

February 21, 2012 9:05 pm at 9:05 pm #896941importantMemberit depends what youre dressing up as.
for instance, a cheerleader costume probably wouldnt go over too well with the commmunity….
February 21, 2012 10:00 pm at 10:00 pm #896942ImaofthreeParticipantI can’t stand it when people dress up in Halloween costumes (like witches) on purim! No monster costumes, please!

it really depends on your community, do you REALLY want to be the only teenage girl who did/didnt dress up?

September 16, 2012 10:36 am at 10:36 am #896949Shopping613 🌠Participantmy friends school used to do this thing as a rosh chodesh activity, where as all the high school girls would go to the mall and get a list of things to find and take a picture of, on the list was all the 12th graders who dressed up like people shopping around the mall. one lets say an old lady, another a mother….it was alot of fun she said, but the local mall banned it this year cuz they knew the girls didnt actually come there to buy anything… 🙁

September 16, 2012 4:24 pm at 4:24 pm #896950BYbychoiceMemberwell thats something entirely diffrent! that is a school being unsmart with the activites they give their students! They for sure should have bought something and even not they should have behaved normal enough that pple wouldent see them coming a whole year later!!! and i think that girls dressing up on purim is fine if they do a little bit tzniusly, i mean why when older do they have to stop if they have the right intent???? i once saw a group of abou 7 or 8 high school girls walk in shul for megillah and none of them dressed up and i heard a 9 year old say to her friend” if when were older we dont get to dress up then i dont want to get older”! i mean come one, just cause ur older u cant have fun anymore, is that the message we should send kids????
