Note: This has been confirmed by Snopes as a hoax
I just received this via email- very important!
County Sheriff’s Department Alert – Beware!!
READ AND FORWARD!!! Thursday morning, I saw an infant car seat on the side of the road with a blanket draped over it. I did not stop, even though I had all kinds of thoughts running through my head. But when I got to my destination, I called the Police Department and they were going to check it out. This is what I was told…”Several things to be aware of… gangs and thieves, are now plotting different ways to get a person to “stop” their vehicle.”There is a gang initiation reported by the local police department that gangs are placing a car seat by the road… with a fake baby in it…waiting for a woman, of course, to stop and check on the baby. Note that the location of this car seat will usually be beside a wooded or grassy (field) area …and the person – woman – will be dragged into the woods- beaten…- usually left for dead. DO NOT STOP. DIAL 9-1-1 AND REPORT WHAT YOU SAW!!! “IF YOU ARE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND EGGS ARE THROWN AT YOUR WINDSHIELD. DO NOT TURN ON YOUR WIPERS AND DO NOT SPRAY ANY WATER ON IT BECAUSE EGGS MIXED WITH WATER BECOMES MILKY AND YOU’LL NOT BE ABLE TO SEE!!!! YOU ARE THEN FORCED TO STOP BESIDE THE ROAD AND BECOME A VICTIM OF THIEVES. THIS IS A NEW TECHNIQUE USED BY GANGS. PLEASE INFORM YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES. THESE ARE DESPERATE TIMES
September 3, 2010 3:18 pm at 3:18 pm #768460anonymrsParticipantwhere is this going on?
September 3, 2010 3:31 pm at 3:31 pm #768462YW Moderator-80MemberThis email is a known hoax.
as has been every similar email that i have ever received.
September 3, 2010 6:31 pm at 6:31 pm #768463YW Moderator-42ModeratorI have a question. Perhaps this is a hoax and has never happened. But the idea might be true. Putting a fake baby in a car seat is something that criminals can do even if it was never “officially” done by a gang. People should be made aware that we live in dangerous times and that something like this should be reported to police. You shouldn’t stop in a dangerous area.
About the eggs and water, the Snopes article doesn’t seem to say anything about this. I have no idea if that is true or not. That part might be a real hoax.
If these things are not happening at all then perhaps it is better not to needlessly scare people. But it is also good to know this type of “trivia”
September 3, 2010 6:49 pm at 6:49 pm #768464d aMemberSo the hoax is a hoax?

September 3, 2010 9:25 pm at 9:25 pm #768466WIYMemberOk so what do they really do as gang initiation? Anything we should be informed of?
December 2, 2010 7:08 pm at 7:08 pm #768467blinkyParticipantMaybe this is another hoax….but posting it anyway! You decide
PASS ON TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW
I received a telephone call last evening from an individual identifying
himself as an AT&T Service Technician (could also be Telus) who was
conducting a test on the telephone lines. He stated that to complete the
test I should touch nine(9), zero(0), the pound sign (#), and then hang up.
Luckily, I was suspicious and refused.
Upon contacting the telephone company, I was informed that by pushing 90#,
you give the requesting individual full access to your telephone line,
which enables them to place long distance calls billed to your home phone
number.
I was further informed that this scam has been originating from many local
jails/prisons DO NOT press 90# for ANYONE.
The GTE Security Department requested that I share this information with
EVERYONE I KNOW.
After checking with Verizon they also said it was true, so do
not dial 90# for anyone !!!!!
PLEASE HIT THAT FORWARD BUTTON AND PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE YOU
KNOW!!!

Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC, And the person who sent it to you will gain access to your Name, e-mail and password. This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon. AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the anti virus software’s are not capable of destroying it.
The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself ‘life owner’.
PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS E-MAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS, And ask them to PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY!
THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY SNOPES.
December 14, 2010 7:03 pm at 7:03 pm #768472YW Moderator-80Memberit has been confirmed but if you read the whole snopes article you will see that the effects of the virus have been greatly exaggerated and there is a good deal of misinformation in that email.
its a “relatively” mild virus
January 14, 2011 3:31 pm at 3:31 pm #768473blinkyParticipantmod 80- I think this time this one is true…
Important warning! NOT A JOKE! Pay attention to this.
It looks like a normal plastic water bottle
Disturb it by moving it; and BOOM (Less than 30 seconds)!!
No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc. People are finding these bombs in mailboxes and in their yards, just waiting for sommeone to pick it up intending to put it in the trash.
It takes about 30 seconds to blow after you move the thing.
i have confirmed this and it is true…mod 80

March 10, 2011 5:40 pm at 5:40 pm #768480GrandmasterMemberWhy do some people believe everything that pops up in their inbox? It keeps those Nigerians in business.
March 10, 2011 6:06 pm at 6:06 pm #768481AinOhdMilvadoParticipantJust for laughs, I once followed up on one of those Nigerian type scams.
They wanted me to send them a money order for $500 and they would immediately get out a check to me for $10,000.
I spoke to them on the phone and, acting like a sucker, told them I had gotten the money order and was mailing it out to them.
Guess what? The next day I got their check.
It appeared to be a real check from a real bank in Virginia.
I got the phone number of the bank and called, gave them the account number on the check, and asked if there was money in the account to cover the check.
What a shock!!!
They told me there was NO money in the account.
Needless to say, I never really sent them, or ever even purchased a money order.
Of course for any of you who might not realize it, the way scam works is that YOU send THEM a money order. THEY send YOU a very large check, which of course, bounces. But, by the time you find that out, they’ve cashed your money order, and they are no where to be found.

May 20, 2011 3:19 pm at 3:19 pm #768483blinkyParticipantJURY Duty Scam
Pass this on to your grown children and anyone else you can think of.
This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also included below).
Please pass this on to everyone in your email address book. It is
spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us
take those summonses for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip
out on their civic duty that a new and ominous kind of fraud has
surfaced.
The caller claims to be a jury DUTY coordinator. If you protest
that you never received a summons for jury duty, the Scammer asks you
for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can
verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of
this information and bingo, your identity was just stolen.
The fraud has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma ,
Illinois , and Colorado , AZ and more. This (swindle) is particularly
insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully
people into giving information by pretending they are with the court
system.
The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on
their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud.
Check it out here:

Yep! It’s true
May 20, 2011 3:46 pm at 3:46 pm #768484HealthParticipantBlinky -Lesson learned -Do your civic duty. If you actually can’t do it, most of the time they will let you off.
May 20, 2011 4:46 pm at 4:46 pm #768485adorableParticipantmod 80- can you confirm that one?
I heard that they are calling ppl up and telling that to dial *91 (something like that i think) and that gives them access to your phones and they hike up a bill for you. I dont understand it exactly but something like that
anyone heard of that?
May 20, 2011 4:48 pm at 4:48 pm #768486YW Moderator-80Memberconfirmed
