Do you iron linens before you fold them and put them into the linen closet?
My husband wants to hire a cleaning lady to iron linens for us so we can have a beautiful and neat linen closet like in the Binah magazine pictures.
Is this a normal thing to do?

which part, wanting to hire someone to iron, or wanting to emulate a picture in a magazine?
Either way, we don’t mess with Shalom Bayis questions here in the CR. If it will make him less grouchy, I say go for it.
December 3, 2013 4:15 pm at 4:15 pm #991469Gryffindorable GirlMemberLol let him come to my house and see MY linen closet and he will never complain again…
December 3, 2013 4:19 pm at 4:19 pm #991470BaalHaboozeParticipantAgreed with Syag!
Is it normal? Its a neatness thing. Like I straighten out all my stuff on my desk at work just so. So, hey, if it makes him happy, shalom al yisrael!
My wife is very particular about ironing linens as well, so that it is neat and tidy. I used to think it’s weird, but I’ve absolutely no problem with that, and besides, all we end up having is a nice neat looking shelf.
Not such a bad problem to have! Is it normal? Who cares! We’re happy ….and neat!
December 3, 2013 4:21 pm at 4:21 pm #991471popa_bar_abbaParticipantOk, but is it normal to want to iron socks so that they are neat inside the fridge?
December 3, 2013 4:51 pm at 4:51 pm #991472🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantIt’s not a neatness thing, if you don’t iron the socks, only 4 pair will fit in the egg tray. Ironed, you can fit about 6.
December 3, 2013 4:58 pm at 4:58 pm #991473BaalHaboozeParticipant….uh,…pba, you REALLY should speak to somebody about your daily chores. There are professionals out there for these types of things, y’know,….

That’s what OP is saying, that she wants a cleaning lady
December 3, 2013 5:14 pm at 5:14 pm #991475Torah613TorahParticipantThe real problem is that he thinks a cleaning lady is enough. I want a professional, live-in, full-time maid.
December 3, 2013 5:14 pm at 5:14 pm #991476Torah613TorahParticipantJust kidding. But BHB, how do you iron a sheet? Doesn’t it get all wrinkled when you fold it anyway? And doesn’t it straighten out on the bed anyway?
December 3, 2013 5:25 pm at 5:25 pm #991477BaalHaboozeParticipantI have no idea….
please refer to BaalHaboozta for all technical support
December 3, 2013 5:38 pm at 5:38 pm #991478Perhaps call the phsychologist that can be seen on this site now and let’s hear his answer.
In reading some of the answers, the use of “I” or “He” points to a problem of fingerpointing and people who are in the ego stage which is what children up to 2 yrs. of age are about.
It’s nice to have a neat closet and what the Binah or other magazines sometimes show is not realistic, it just looks nice on paper. An acquaintance of mine had steady help who kept on rearranging her linen closet to look nice. Slowly she watched her rearrange everything till she found the “secret” places and cleaned them out too.
December 4, 2013 12:15 am at 12:15 am #991479LevAryehMemberIf that’s all the cleaning lady will be doing, you better make sure you have a lot of linen.
December 4, 2013 6:54 pm at 6:54 pm #991480dotnetterMemberI don’t know why he stopped at the linen closets. Did you see their kitchen’s? Or fancy suppers? Or how about the perfectly dressed kids in every ad?
If you’re going to try to keep up with the Binah, you will need to hire a full time housekeeper, cook and personal shopper.
December 4, 2013 8:44 pm at 8:44 pm #991482Torah613TorahParticipantDon’t you think keeping up with Binah is a worthwhile goal?
December 4, 2013 10:37 pm at 10:37 pm #991483GoldaMemberI have never seen the linens in Binah magazine but… I iron my linens multiple times. First unfolded on both sides, then with each fold. I find it really soothing and would not want to give up my ironing to a cleaning lady,
December 5, 2013 9:23 pm at 9:23 pm #991484Torah613TorahParticipantGolda: That’s interesting. So that’s how people do it.
December 6, 2013 4:52 pm at 4:52 pm #991485ujewParticipantThe real question is why is your husband reading Binah magazine?
