while I’m all for bashing blue-sates what “joseph just said is either inaccurate or simply misleading. while nys to date has the most cases to date in the past few weeks the rate of new cases is far lower then in texas or florida etc. Granted ny handled the virus terribly and a large part of it being under control is due to a fairly high number of people with immunity to the virus but it should be understood that the number of cases in ny now is about a tenth of that in texas and per capita its like a twentieth and florida and Arizona I believe are worse.

What I meant is that New York currently (even considering the spike of cases in California, Texas, Washington State, Florida, etc.) has the most currently active cases of COVID-19 infections (not just cumulatively but even active cases of disease), as well as has the most currently active hospitalizations for COVID-19, as well as (this last part I’m almost certain but am having trouble accessing my data source) the highest daily death rate. New Jersey is a close second (and may have surpassed NY on one of these data points), but none of the states that are experiencing a spike currently have come even close to overtaking New York or New Jersey on these statistics.

    Dear Joseph,
If this is not all tongue in cheek, can you please share which site you are using? On corona help, recovered + active + deaths = confirmed cases. And I guess all unknown positive cases, remain active.

N0m: I believe it was Worldometer. Under the column for “Active Cases”, broken down per state. As of yesterday New York had about double the number of Active Cases of even the second placed state for active cases. The second placed state of active cases, California, has double the population of New York but half as many active cases.

    Dear Joseph,
Thank you. It appears that it is counting old cases. Any case that is not confirmed closed, is considered active. Otherwise, it would mean that for every three New Yorkers that recovered one died.
