I would like to buy a computer in order for me to put my notes on, I am looking for something small and not too expensive but has a word processor and won’t break, preferably something I can buy online, any suggestions?
My favorite website to buy from is Tigerdirect. They have some of the best prices available, and really friendly customer service. You can check out products and reviews on their website. I’ve been using them for years.

If your only requirement is “something small” to take notes on, the cheapest computer sold should meet your needs.
Even a netbook may be good enough for your intended usage, and I just saw a new one on sale at Best Buy for $200.
As far as a program to use for taking notes, the “Open Office” suite is free and it includes a full word processor.
I always get asked by random people to come fix their computer because it’s running slow and has viruses. I’m not trying to advertise, but everyone should get the free program CCleaner from the website FileHippo. Just Google CCleaner and it should come up. It cleans your computer from junk and temporary files that it accumulates over time. I clean people’s computers with it and it often gets rid of GIGABYTES worth of junk. Run it daily and it will keep your pc running smooth. I can also recommend “Malwarebyte’s Anti-Malware”, and/or “Spybot Search & Destroy”. These two are very effective FREE virus cleaners, but they don’t provide active protection, so they don’t weigh down your system. If people knew how to clean their systems they wouldn’t need to buy new hardware all the time. You should also defragment your disc drive every so often. Windows has a program built in that does this, but you need to run it manually.
Curiosity
A great free anti-virus program with real time protection and that is constantly updated is Microsoft security essentials. Its a must have if you want free protection for your pc.
As for defragmenting I read online that its a bad idea. You can google it and see for yourself.
WIY – There’s a LOT of misinformation online. Make sure you read articles from certified and recognised computer firms, not from no-name tech geek blogs and user edited forums. Defragging might not always be effective, but it doesn’t do any damage other than occasionally deleting old system restore points.

You don’t need to be a Ferrari if you’re only planning on doing 20mph.
The only thing is sometimes people (usually older) don’t like that netbooks have small keyboards. Some have issues adjusting to them, so whatever you choose, do yourself a favor and make a stop at a retailer so you can check out the feel of the machine. Don’t spend a few hundred dollars only to find that you don’t like the feel.
I certainly do recommend tigerdirect for purchasing, they’re quite good, but don’t buy anything without physically seeing and feeling it first.
As far as maintaining goes, excellent suggestions above! MBAM and CCleaner should be on every PC. They’re both free for personal use. Regarding defragging… fragmentation happens over time, especially if you find yourself moving, transferring or deleting very large files. It’s not something you need to do often. Windows 7 can do it automatically for you and you don’t have to worry about it.
