Hi was wondering if anyone had any clue what the cheapest and most convenient way from JFK to newark is. I found a shuttle called Airporter for 25 dollars, and am fine with that but figured i would ask if anyone knew of anything better. Thanks!

November 29, 2012 9:37 am at 9:37 am #909865akupermaParticipantThe cheapest is probably to have a friend with a small (fuel efficient) car pick you up and drop you off (without parking at either airport). I suspect that taking the subway to Penn Station, and then the train to the airport might be cheaper, especially if you don’t have any friends with small cars who love urban driving. Convenience is also a function of time of day and of how much luggage one has.

You will need to switch to the Newark Airtrain at the newark airport station, but its included in the price

Will pass on the info – thanks much!

The NJ/Transit to Newark is really good. I had to return from a flight to Newark and I didnt want to pay over $100 in taxi fares. The train took about 30 Mins to get to Manhattan and that was during Rush Hour when you can get stuck for 1 hour at the bridge or tunnel
November 29, 2012 3:32 pm at 3:32 pm #909869A Heimishe MomParticipantpublic transit will probably take close to two hours and cost almost the same $25. zdad left out the $2.25 for the subway. Check out mta.info for more specific info.

If you insist on driving, then avoid the Verrazano Br. That is the expensive bridge.
If you really are looking for the “cheapest way”, I just did the research for you:
Take the Q10 from JFK to the A train at Lefferts Blvd (free transfer). (Cost: 2.25)
Then take that to the PATH @ WTC to Newark Penn station (Cost: 1.75)
From Newark Penn, take the #62 bus to Newark (Cost: 1.50)
Total Cost = 5.50
I don’t think you can beat that.
November 29, 2012 5:22 pm at 5:22 pm #909871HealthParticipantGAW – It will take hours your way.
The way I’d do it is like this and it probably would be quicker than a shuttle -depends on traffic.
1. Take Airtrain to Jamaica LIRR station -$5.00.
2. LIRR to PENN Station, NY – Off Peak only -$6.25 @ ticket machine.
(If traveling on Sat. or Sun. buy a City Ticket for $3.75.)
3. Walk a block (above or underground) to 33rd St. Take PATH train to Newark Penn Station. -$2.25.
(Sorry GAW -price has gone up.)
4. Bus to Airport -$1.50.
Total possible cost: $15.00 🙂

November 29, 2012 5:50 pm at 5:50 pm #909873HealthParticipantGAW -“Then take that to the PATH @ WTC”
The “A” doesn’t go to WTC. Only the “E” ends at the WTC.
You can walk underground from the Chambers St. stop – first to the 2&3 station @ Park Place and then onto the “E” station at WTC.
What I’ve done is gotten out at the Fulton St. Station (make sure you’re at the far west side) and walked a block above ground west to the WTC.

I’ll take your word for it. The map said they are near each other, and my way is still cheaper (which is the sole consideration that was posed). And Shanda about the PATH, huh? They take all that money and build a building no one wants.
November 29, 2012 10:22 pm at 10:22 pm #909875crdleMemberEveryones suggestions are good, but seriously, for the lousy $25 , IF YOU CAN JUST GET A DIRCET transfer, I think it’s worth it, I mean, why would you want to take the subway, LIRR and PATH?!?? If you can only take one!!! ( just saying) Also, I recently saw at LGA an ad for a shuttle between LGA JFK and Newark, and it said either 12.50 or 15.
November 30, 2012 1:22 am at 1:22 am #909876🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantWell, as it ended up we are too out-of-town to take a subway without very specific instructions and there was too much luggage. She took the shuttle crdle mentioned that went from JFK to grand central station to Newark. It was $24 and she paid in advance. Down side is that she had to walk a block at grand central to wait for the next shuttle and with the non-direct flight she took this morning she probably could have driven in less time.
Thanks so much to all for your replies.
And btw, if anyone comes to Chicago, we would be happy to pick you up from the airport.
November 30, 2012 3:25 am at 3:25 am #909877zahavasdadParticipantSyag.
I was in Chicago a few years ago and I took the El to Ohair, it was easy
November 30, 2012 4:13 am at 4:13 am #909878🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantYes, it is. Our train system is pretty simplistic, which makes it easy to use but you can’t get to too many places. Subways are intimidating if you aren’t used to them and don’t really know where you are going. I was also nervous about her standing on streets at night alone with lots of luggage. Either way, we’ll still be happy to pick you up! We can even drive you through a DD on the way 🙂

If you’re traveling once in awhile you’re correct, but if you’re a commuter and have to travel around all the time every dollar adds up.
Ya’know they used to have something called an Airtrain that ran on the “A” line and went to JFK. I guess it wasn’t profitable for the MTA to run it anymore.
November 30, 2012 6:05 pm at 6:05 pm #909881zahavasdadParticipantSubways dont bother me, I even rode them in Europe without an issue, as long as they use Latin Alphabet Characters I am fine.
BTW I dont think its $25 to go from Newark to JFK, I think the figure is wrong, I priced this myself and it was higher and I wound up using the train
November 30, 2012 9:51 pm at 9:51 pm #909882🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantthat is the actual price she paid yesterday.
