Thanks,
October 31, 2010 8:13 pm at 8:13 pm #706363SacrilegeMemberMasbia. There is a form to fill out on their web site and they’ll email you when they need your help. And then maybe I’ll see you 🙂
Also, Tomchei Shabbos.

Prepping, Serving, Dish Washing, Mailings….
They have a pretty well established group of regular volunteers thats why they email when they need you.
October 31, 2010 9:40 pm at 9:40 pm #706370vnishmartemmeodMemberivolunteerny.com recently expanded to Brooklyn; friendly visitation to holocaust survivors/seniors. You can contact them via their website…

Do they have any male volunteers? What do they have the men do?
October 31, 2010 9:53 pm at 9:53 pm #706372d aMemberSacrilege, which Masbia do you volunteer in?
I wanted to volunteer at Masbia. I called a few numbers but didn’t get any answer and did not get my messages returned. So, one day, I walked into Masbia on Coney Island and asked to volunteer. I filled out a little form, they gave me a tour and told me I can come whenever I want. I ended up going a few times and mainly I washed the dishes and silverware. Other volunteers would serve, clean tables, fill up the water/salad/bread/margarine etc. I also stayed for closing tme and helped clean up the place. The main workers are very nice and easy to get along with. I should really go back ther and help out some more…

Sure, they dont discriminate 🙂 Men and Woman do they same things, when you fill out the form online you check off what you want to do (what you are good at)

Coney Island. I too was told that I can just walk in, but I find that more often than not when you do that you just end up standing around. Thats why I filled out the form online, when I get an email that they need people doing certain things I email them back to see what times and how I can work it into my schedule. Now that I have a new job I havent been able to volunteer as much as I’d like too…
October 31, 2010 11:28 pm at 11:28 pm #706374popa_bar_abbaParticipantYou want to volunteer? Come by my house on friday, I’ll find something for you.

I’m pretty sure I am older than you. I am from Flatbush (that narrows it down)
So, I am going to assume that you volunteer in Masbia of Flatbush. Were you there during the summer? And, what ‘job’ do you mostly do?
November 1, 2010 12:31 am at 12:31 am #706376d aMemberBy the way, if you are looking to be a volunteer with special children, if after a while, they want to pay you (through ResHab or any other way), and you agree, what might happen is that you will lose that push you had originally…

No, I wasnt there in the summer (sorry, guess I’m not who you thought I was 😉

Perhaps you should find another organization 😉
November 1, 2010 4:37 pm at 4:37 pm #706380phrumMemberI’m with oomis1105 – Bikur Cholim. There are many great organizations and you can also just head down to your local hospital!
Great question/aspiration, APusheta. But also bear in mind that every moment in every encounter we are constantly presented with myriad opportunities to do amazingly significant heeds with enormous impacts for individuals through such small and easy acts. As the Holy Piazetzner would tell his , just try to do a little kindness for someone. When we see the world and people around us becoming so broken we should that as a tremendous chance and increased ability to raise battered souls with simplest gestures. Tiniest word to a stranger can release the holiest spark!

November 1, 2010 5:48 pm at 5:48 pm #706383the.nurseMemberI know some of these were already mentioned, but these are 3 organizations that I have dealt with, so I know they are amazing: Tomche Shabbos {http://tomcheshabbos.org}, Chai Lifeline {http://chailifeline.org/}, and Partners In Torah {https://www.partnersintorah.org/}.
In Tomche, you can volunteer in the warehouse packaging or they also have drivers that do the runs Thurs nite to the homes, or even just collecting for them.. I know that with the economy, they are struggling to continue providing as much as they do.
In Chai Lifeline there is also a variety of things you can do; they have big sibling-little sibling programs; they have respite -where you volunteer in hospitals overnight/during the day/for shabbos- to stay with a child.. there are many different programs.
In Partners in Torah, they pair you up with someone of similar educational background/job type etc.. and you learn with them once a week.
Of course, all this depends what type of thing you are interested in volunteering in.
