From what I’m hearing Chicago is supposed to get a historic blizzard Tuesday night/Wednesday with 18 foot waves from Lake Michigan splashing up onto Lake Shore Drive thus closing it down. Are you in Chicago?
February 1, 2011 3:27 am at 3:27 am #734800SapphireMemberWow, another snowstorm…and it’s only the very beginning of February!
revised as per request
February 1, 2011 4:02 am at 4:02 am #734802deiyezoogerMemberNew York is getting ice, anyways chicago folks keep us updated.
February 1, 2011 7:04 am at 7:04 am #734803candy613MemberChicago is just the best! What can i say?!?!?!
February 1, 2011 3:30 pm at 3:30 pm #734804✡onegoal™ParticipantHey candy613 When did you write that you got home late last night?
^MONIS^
February 1, 2011 3:39 pm at 3:39 pm #734805TheGoqParticipant“Wow…Baruch Hashem, I don’t live there”
that is not a very nice thing to say cant you have some empathy for your fellow jews?
February 1, 2011 3:49 pm at 3:49 pm #734806cleverjewishpunMemberFor those of you high and mighty “in towners”
Watch how a real world class city run by corrupt thugs handles a blizzard of this magnitude
Did they ever get around to plowing in Brookyln?
February 1, 2011 3:58 pm at 3:58 pm #734807Josh31ParticipantHere in Dallas we had an ice and sleet storm closing all the schools, and now the coldest weather in a decade. Two football teams from Green Bay and Pittsburgh arrived yesterday bringing all this.

A blizzard can’t be knee-capped!
February 1, 2011 4:26 pm at 4:26 pm #734809jewishnessParticipantI read that just the other day the Illinois governor sanctioned the legal recognition of non straight marriages.
I dont think Hashem is too pleased about that perversion. Maybe this is a sign of his displeasure.
February 1, 2011 4:39 pm at 4:39 pm #734810charliehallParticipantjewishness,
Either the report was incorrect, or you misunderstood: The law that was passed by the legislature and signed by the governor sanctioned same sex civil unions, not marriages. And it doesn’t take effect for another four months.
February 1, 2011 4:42 pm at 4:42 pm #734811YW Moderator-80MemberJewishness
i think you have a point
February 1, 2011 4:59 pm at 4:59 pm #734812jewishnessParticipantCharliehall,
Yippie! Its same sex civil unions not marriages. Please tell me why that is O.K.! Last time I checked the Torah has a rather unpleasant take on any kind of union other than the traditional man/woman relationship.
There is a Gemorah that states that one of the things that was the final cause for the coming of the mabul was the official documentation in those times of same gender unions.
It is actually interesting that the result was the great deluge, and now it is a deluge that is rearing its ugly head on that state. Huge waves hitting Chicago…..waves…mabul….get my drift (drift- pun intended)?
We know that Hashem works midah bmidah, so we are supposed to study his actions and figure out what they are reactions to. I think this one is not to far off.
Please tell me why, its not going into effect for another four months makes any difference? Please! Its a law that has been signed in and is just waiting the necessary time. I dont understand in the least what your points are!
February 1, 2011 5:34 pm at 5:34 pm #734813SapphireMemberThe Goq (and anyone else feeling miffed): No hard feelings intended in my above post. I think Chicago is a very nice place, and feel bad for any hardships our fellow Jewish brethren may endure due to snowstorms and other events there. However, I expressed my gradtitude in that I don’t live there because I do not have to be terribly concerned (at least for the present moment) with:
a)shoveling lots of snow again
b)how certain relatives who are returning from overseas in the next day or two will be getting home
c)how I’m going to get to work(s)
etc.
But this doesn’t take away from my empathy…
On the bright side, fresh snow is really beautiful…And can be quite enjoyable…
February 1, 2011 5:45 pm at 5:45 pm #734814✡onegoal™ParticipantI’m in Chicago and I’m really psyched up for it. I love when it is just complete chaos. Then again… carpool… food… work…

February 1, 2011 10:05 pm at 10:05 pm #734815Smile E. FaceMemberYay! it started and i got out of school two and a half hours early!!!!!!! Now, if only it continues through tomorrow…:)
February 1, 2011 10:17 pm at 10:17 pm #734816ronrsrMemberIn Boston, we already have had about 75 major snowstorms, or so it seems.
Another six inches of snow today makes me feel a bit hopeless. For tomorrow’s storm, we are right on the rain/snow line. Could be another foot of snow, or could be lots of freezing rain. What a choice!
February 1, 2011 10:26 pm at 10:26 pm #734817✡onegoal™ParticipantI’m in Chicago and the wind is ridiculously strong with snow. The main streets are not plowed which is a change for Chicago.
February 1, 2011 10:37 pm at 10:37 pm #734818TheGoqParticipantsapphire not to belabor the point but u may as well have said better them than me it was kinda cold.

February 1, 2011 11:24 pm at 11:24 pm #734820Josh31Participantonegoal: Last time I recall you were in LA. I was in the 1979 blizzard in Chicago, and by April 1980 I had moved to LA!!!
February 1, 2011 11:27 pm at 11:27 pm #734821SapphireMemberThe Goq, I suppose that is one of the negative effects of such threads/emails/texts – the emotion is missing.
I’m not sure I fully understand why it sounds so bad, but I am sorry you feel this way. I’ll try to be careful next time… Does anyone else feel slighted? In either case-
Mods, can you please revise my first post earlier (2nd post in this thread) so that all it says is:
Wow, another snowstorm…and it’s only the very beginning of February!
How’s that, The Goq?
February 1, 2011 11:35 pm at 11:35 pm #734822popa_bar_abbaParticipantI heard that EMS has snowmobiles, and that National Guard was called out.
I guess that is the difference between having a dictator mayor who takes care of the city (Daley), and some billionaire who thinks mayoring is fun.
February 1, 2011 11:37 pm at 11:37 pm #734823candy613Memberwell its getting really bad here!!! HEY MAYBE WE CAN BE LIKE NY NOW!!!!!!

February 1, 2011 11:41 pm at 11:41 pm #734826SapphireMemberThank you mods!
Re Chicago’s organized operation snowstorm system (don’t know if this is true, just remarking on P.B.A.’s post): I think most places that are used to getting big snowstorms are prepared for such conditions…I think in Canada they have these snow machines (for getting rid of the snow) that go on the sidewalks. Someone mentioned to me recently that he saw one in the U.S. for the first time…
February 2, 2011 12:00 am at 12:00 am #734827psach libi bsorasechaMemberoh my!!!!! we’re really getting it bad! the wind is crazy, you can’t see when driving (i mean, you could maybe see the lights right in front of you) it’s terrible! yyyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!! school was out 1/2 hour early (smile e face- i’m not even jealous)no work for me tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!
