NO one should not just get engaged to just “get it over with.” Better to just have the sofer make up a kituba and a get. PLEASE take your time. Remember-it is one of the most important decisions of your life. No need to rush.

Getting engaged is so wonderful that it is worth it even if you will just break off the engagement after the vort.
I agree with the above posters.
Things have to make sense. There is no rush prior to the engagement, if you feel dates are still necessary. But once you know the person well enough, and all else makes sense, well, an early mazal tov!
yeah, a lot of young couples have gotten engaged too quickly (maybe because they want to get shidduchim over with) and sadly i know a lot of people that during their first year of marriage are getting divorced!! :'(
