I’m not talking about PDA (although I’m not opposed ;). Saying “I Love You” is innocent enough, or is that ossur too?

Touche.
I’m focused on the kid angle because the OP asked the question in that context (I think he ultimately wanted to go Joseph-fishing though and get a bunch of “it’s assur!” posts). But you are right, ultimately a person’s top human relational priority is to his/her spouse.

I would not be surprised to find that there are people who truly believe that spending quality time with your spouse is forbidden and that, bedroom aspects aside, spouses SHOULD NOT have a relationship deeper than that of roommates/business partners.

Its not assur 🙂 But its not a prerequisite to seeing a happy marriage from your parents. You can see love in your parents in many ways, much more than an empty “I love you” that lacks true meaning.

No going out can compare with a Shabbos Seudah (or even an ordinary week day supper) at home with just the two of us. Not that we are not thrilled to have an Einikel (especially the almost adults) join us

We had a preview of that for a few summers when the kids all went to sleep-away camps. 🙂
