this needs confirmation, but I was told that Rav Eliashiv z’l would not be matir any kind of car that could technically be made to conform to shabbos halachos because of what it might lead to – people using non-shabbos conforming cars

But what if the Tesla was programmed before shabbat and Tesla created a shabbat mode. The car doesn’t change any settings upon a person entering the vehicle and putting on their seatbelt.

YYA, I just wanted to emphasize that when there is a range of options within these technical parameters, R Auerbach took into account kavod habrius.

on technical issues, I don’t think I learnt this sugya in depth: are we saying that combustion engine is fire? is burning in ICE halachik fire?

metoo, this ruling is for his time.

When pareve coffee cream appeared, one would leave a container near his coffee to avoid an impression that he is drinking milk after meat. By now, nobody is having a problem with that.

When Waymos will fill the streets, nobody will be confused.

in practice its אסור מפני תיקון העולם.

as for the halachic technicalities that could be discussed, but not Le’masseh.

one idea is to draw parallels to the prohibitions on the work of animals. such can be the case for any autonomus device.

another idea is to be ממעת בּאיסורים in an event whare you already can be mechalel shabbat.

dose anyone know of any gdolai torah of our genereation that discussed this? if so tell us the source so we can further the discussion.

don’t take for granted that electricity is only a d’rabbanan, there’s great minds that said it very well could by d’oraysa

misnagid, not arguing with you, but you need to look at the sources: many early opinions about various electric devices were just that … uninformed opinions. And then some are still propagated from the previous ones. So, you need to look at the issue and possibly by a rav who either knows the swcience or is known to consult those who know the science. R Auerbach, for example.
