does anyone know how ebay works, like do you usually get stuff for very cheap and how does shipping work-like why are some so much more then others?
February 8, 2011 2:00 am at 2:00 am #741170mikehall12382Memberyou can get great deals on a lot of items, the person selling charges you freight, based on size and weight of the item. there is usually a freight estimate so you know what to expect…
February 8, 2011 2:07 am at 2:07 am #741171geshmocksterMemberAs a seller on eBay for over three years, I think my expertise can help you. The reason why the shipping prices may vary, is because, eBay charges sellers a percentage of the amount their item sold for, but, they do not charge a percentage of the shipping charge (some sellers make a high shipping charge, and low auction price, in order to not have to pay such high fees). Sometimes sellers will entice their buyers, by offering little, to no charge for shipping.
February 8, 2011 2:07 am at 2:07 am #741172its_meMembervery cheap? sometimes but not usually. but it depends on the item. if you are looking for the left match for your bubby’s favorite slippers you will get that for VERY cheap , but for electronics, popular toys and housewares, you will need to track a few items and put your maximum bid then wait and see if you get out bid or not. dont bid on too many items too high cuz then you might end up with 3 ipods when you wanted only one! also, you need to check if the seller you are dealing with is honest also. sellers can charge as much shipping as they want because it includes handling and insurance.
February 8, 2011 2:29 am at 2:29 am #741173✡onegoal™ParticipantEbay charges it’s sellers a percentage of what you earn but shipping is not included so if someone is selling for say, an iPod for $150 and free shipping and someone else is selling the exact same iPod for $50 with $100 shipping (an extreme case) they are the same thing but the guy with the more expensive shipping makes more money but you get the same item for the same price. I very often get things for cheap but if they are very cheap most likely it is not what you think it is for example when I was looking for an iPod I found one for 99 cents and clicked on it and found out it was a case for an iPod even though it looked like an iPod from the picture. If you have any other questions feel free to ask I buy things from Ebay rather frequently.

February 8, 2011 2:44 am at 2:44 am #741174UnderstandMemberEvery ebay item is different. Some are the cheapest on ebay, some you can get cheaper other places. Just be careful if you are not used to the site, there may be shipping charges or other things you don’t see. Be careful, if the price sounds too good to be true, it usually is.
February 8, 2011 2:45 am at 2:45 am #741175elikParticipantwhat were u looking at buying??
a few quick points
1) seller can charge what they want for shipping for most items so always calculate total cost shipping plus item..
2) make sure person has good feedback……. alot scams online these days
3) never respond to emails from eaby alot are fake to steal your info
4) I have been selling and buying on ebay for 10 years
February 8, 2011 3:39 am at 3:39 am #7411762qwertyParticipantread the description carefully. some have confusing titles such as:
ipod 32gig and then you read further and they are just selling a case for it.
or free laptop and they will sell you instructions how to get it but it will probably involve you applying for 5 mortgages and 20 credit cards.
February 8, 2011 4:47 am at 4:47 am #741177real-briskerMembergeshmok – what do you deal with?
February 8, 2011 4:48 am at 4:48 am #741178real-briskerMemberwhen buying always sort under “price plus shipping lowest first”
February 8, 2011 6:37 am at 6:37 am #741179geshmocksterMemberI sell an assortment of items, but mostly, accessories. Ex. Cuff-links, Ties, Scarves, belts etc.
February 8, 2011 6:53 am at 6:53 am #741180OfcourseMemberIt’s best to consider items offered by sellers with high rating percentage- between 99% and 100%, and the higher the number of positive feedbacks, the better. That tells you they’re looking to maintain a good feedback record and will probably aim to please you, if there’s a problem. Also those who accept Paypal.
February 16, 2011 3:26 am at 3:26 am #741182Y.S.G.F.K.Memberevery one who gave me an answer thnx alot! i was just wondering why something could be 99 cents and the same thing could be 80 dollars
February 16, 2011 3:54 am at 3:54 am #741183always hereParticipantY.S.G.F.K.~ “why something could be 99 cents and the same thing could be 80 dollars”
the starting BID may be 99 cents, but once people are bidding on the item, the cost (shipping not included) can go up veryyy high. if you’re just starting out there, be careful not to get caught up in the bidding frenzy!
g’luck 🙂
February 16, 2011 4:11 am at 4:11 am #741184aries2756ParticipantEbay charges the seller more if they have a higher opening bid or a reserve.
February 16, 2011 4:19 am at 4:19 am #741185real-briskerMemberIts called a reserve, to make sure the auctiion doesnt end below that minimum.
February 16, 2011 5:08 am at 5:08 am #741186ZachKessinMemberJust remember that you are not buying stuff from ebay, ebay doesn’t sell stuff, they provide a market for normal people (like you and me) to buy and sell stuff. You can get good deals if you are careful and know what to look for.
February 16, 2011 5:20 am at 5:20 am #741187real-briskerMemberzach – ebay has a buyer protection program
February 16, 2011 9:37 pm at 9:37 pm #741188guy-ochoMemberGwshmockster: do you have any cufflinks with a barber design on them. if yes post a link.
February 16, 2011 10:21 pm at 10:21 pm #741189real-briskerMembergeshmokster – whats your store name?
February 17, 2011 12:29 am at 12:29 am #741190mischiefmakerMemberJust remember to read EVERY detail of the item your bidding for. I had some bad experiences with some things. I wouldn’t buy electronics there because its a bit risky. I bought a camera and all over the page it said BRAND NEW!!!!! and it came refurbished and then I looked at the page and at the bottom in small letters it said refurbished. Really be careful about the warranty. Once I bid for something and the seller was pushing it off for months claiming it was “out of stock” and I canceled it but sometimes they’ll say no returns, exchanges, etc. Also many times you’ll see a seller put an item for almost nothing but the shipping is triple the price so be VERY careful.
