I just thought that maybe the coffee room can spearhead a simple learning initiative for gilad shalit- with people just listing times of day they’d be learning with gilad shalit in mind so that as the three weeks approach we can have as much round the clock learning on his behalf as possible. This is a simple but doable effort that we can do for him. Thank You!June 20, 2010 9:59 pm at 9:59 pm #689442anonymrsParticipant
That is an excellent suggestion! As soon as I find something which I am comfortable learning, I will add my name to the list. I can’t commit to a specific time, but I can learn something every day.June 21, 2010 1:25 am at 1:25 am #689443
Beautiful thought. I hope this takes off. Meanwhile, we can all say Tehillim and have Gilad ben Aviva, among all those imprisoned, physically, spiritually, in our tefillos.June 21, 2010 2:42 am at 2:42 am #689444safooshMember

Hey while you are at it you may want to include Pollard as well.June 23, 2010 11:54 pm at 11:54 pm #689452myfriendMember
Great point WellInformedYid.
We should also include the heroic fathers and mothers from Emmanuel that like Pollard and Shalit are imprisoned.June 24, 2010 12:17 am at 12:17 am #689453
i can learn for shalit from 7:30-8:30 5 nights a week sunday through thursday, i may miss a night once in a while, like for the camp trip where there wont be night seder that nightJune 24, 2010 12:42 am at 12:42 am #689454shtiegingMember

while pidyon shvuyim is of major importance, Gilad Shalit is very possibly being tortured along with being imprisoned- I don’t want to exclude any member of klal yisrael but that is why I started this thread specifically for him.June 24, 2010 4:41 am at 4:41 am #689458

I have been trying to bench licht 5 minutes early in Gilad’s zchus. I think we all should do something tangible in his zchus.
May we hear besuros tovos!!June 24, 2010 3:15 pm at 3:15 pm #689461
Point taken. I just dislike throwing everything together and didn’t mean to start any conflict.June 24, 2010 4:01 pm at 4:01 pm #689462
Wellinformedyid, you are 100% correct. However there is a concept of focusing on one person. Case in point: I know of groups dedicated to getting 40 women to have a name (or married couple) in mind when taking challah. They also circulate names to daven for when kneading, or any other time possible.
So it is perfectly legitimate to dedicate this learning specifically for Gilad ben Aviva, among all those others imprisoned, and leave it at that.June 24, 2010 4:07 pm at 4:07 pm #689463YW Moderator-80Member
This thread is about a particular Yid. That is entirely appropriate and that’s how it is going to remain.
If anyone would like to start a thread about someone else, please feel free.June 24, 2010 7:52 pm at 7:52 pm #689464
Mod, I brought this up somewhere else. (Possibly on a similar site. [As if they exist.]) But why don’t the frum news sites include a reminder to daven for Gilad ben Aviva in the body of the articles?June 24, 2010 7:57 pm at 7:57 pm #689465YW Moderator-80Member
That’s a good question, maybe they should.
You could however ask that about every news story. UN condemns Israel, we should daven that the UN treat us fairly. so and so got arrested, we should daven that only Justice is done for him. Stocks are dropping, we should daven that it does not impact Klal Yisroel in a bad way, etc.
I guess they feel that they wish just to report the news aspect and if someone wishes to daven they will.
But ideally, I think you’re right.July 13, 2010 4:23 am at 4:23 am #689466
Just wanted to bring this to everyone’s attention again.
