I just thought that maybe the coffee room can spearhead a simple learning initiative for gilad shalit- with people just listing times of day they’d be learning with gilad shalit in mind so that as the three weeks approach we can have as much round the clock learning on his behalf as possible. This is a simple but doable effort that we can do for him. Thank You!
That is an excellent suggestion! As soon as I find something which I am comfortable learning, I will add my name to the list. I can’t commit to a specific time, but I can learn something every day.
Beautiful thought. I hope this takes off. Meanwhile, we can all say Tehillim and have Gilad ben Aviva, among all those imprisoned, physically, spiritually, in our tefillos.
Me and my friends learn twice each day, well now have both times in mind for giad
Once from 5 PM- 6 PM
Once from 9am-915am
i can have shalit inmind but i cant give a specific time
i just remembered that in camp theres a 2 hour night seder which i plan to learn beretzufos for like a hour and a half, i i”yh will have shalit in mind, i will list the exact time soon as i have to find it out,
Hey while you are at it you may want to include Pollard as well.

We should also include the heroic fathers and mothers from Emmanuel that like Pollard and Shalit are imprisoned.
i can learn for shalit from 7:30-8:30 5 nights a week sunday through thursday, i may miss a night once in a while, like for the camp trip where there wont be night seder that night
what about learning for Rubashkin and the bochurim in japan too.

I have been trying to bench licht 5 minutes early in Gilad’s zchus. I think we all should do something tangible in his zchus.

Wellinformedyid, you are 100% correct. However there is a concept of focusing on one person. Case in point: I know of groups dedicated to getting 40 women to have a name (or married couple) in mind when taking challah. They also circulate names to daven for when kneading, or any other time possible.
So it is perfectly legitimate to dedicate this learning specifically for Gilad ben Aviva, among all those others imprisoned, and leave it at that.
This thread is about a particular Yid. That is entirely appropriate and that’s how it is going to remain.
If anyone would like to start a thread about someone else, please feel free.
Mod, I brought this up somewhere else. (Possibly on a similar site. [As if they exist.]) But why don’t the frum news sites include a reminder to daven for Gilad ben Aviva in the body of the articles?
That’s a good question, maybe they should.
You could however ask that about every news story. UN condemns Israel, we should daven that the UN treat us fairly. so and so got arrested, we should daven that only Justice is done for him. Stocks are dropping, we should daven that it does not impact Klal Yisroel in a bad way, etc.
I guess they feel that they wish just to report the news aspect and if someone wishes to daven they will.
But ideally, I think you’re right.
