Sparkly – that was in response to someone’s comment.

I once heard a quote (I think in the name of some great Rav, but I can’t remember who), I can’t remember the exact quote, but it was something along the lines of “A leader who has no enemies is not a leader.”

If a leader has no enemies, it shows that he must be giving into everyone all the time, and that would make him a follower, not a leader. A true leader has to be able to be strong enough to act against the tide and do things that are not popular!

    You may mean this:

“You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.”

Yekke2 – that works. Thanks! I like my quote even if it wasn’t accurate. If it wasn’t accurate, it can now be said over in my name!

Happygirlygirl – while I could understand why you would want to meet someone in real life, it really is probably not a good idea. First of all, it could be dangerous. I don’t think that you or Sparkly are dangerous, but you just never know. And once it starts with the two of you, there could be bad people lurking out there who will get the idea in their head to pretend to be another Frum girl around your ages in order to trap you into meeting them. As long as the moderators have a policy of not allowing people to meet, it sets a certain protection.

But the other thing is that I have a feeling that a lot of people may be very different in real life than the way they seem. Not because they are pretending, but because you really don’t know them even if you think you do, and you could meet s.o. & be really disappointed by what they are like in real life.

    just my opinion.

Absan – I was referring to someone I know who does know English but, by her own admission, can’t spell. So I guess I wasn’t referring to you if you don’t know english.

Actually, I think it’s in R’ Yisrael Salanter’s name that it is said, “A rav whose congregation doesn’t want to get rid of him isn’t a rav, and a rav whose congregation succeeds in getting rid of him isn’t a man.”

(The “stood up for something” quote is from Winston Churchill.)

Comlink – well then it made sense that I liked R’ Yisrael Salanter’s quote better than Winston Churchill’s.
