was i the catalyst for someone being put in cherem (blocked)? i really just wanted the person to see what he was doing and to change. was that too optimistic on my part? i know that i haven’t been here that long to know everything – i came in the middle of the saga. but, i do feel bad if it was due to what i said that someone got excommunicated. 🙁

tbt: i don’t feel haughty, vindicative, nor regret my post – just feel bad if someone was blocked because of something i said. that’s all.

I was wondering what exactly ‘blocked’ entails… is it that the posts that exist already say ‘blocked’ under the person’s screen name, & that they’re not allowed to post anymore (under that name)??

    #754832

BY: I was not accusing you. I don’t think you should feel bad, (nor anything else either). I think you did the right thing.

AH: You got it right. Not to worry though, he’s got many more active names. At least on the other names he’s a little more respectful. Sometimes he can be a very nice and righteous person

    #754835

your comments had nothing to do with his being blocked.

blocked: you cannot access the coffee room at all

inactive: you can read posts but are unable to post.

in both cases prior posts are not affected.

BY – You did not block him/her, The Y.W. Team decided to.

    Bina:

    Don’t worry about it.

He is almost certainly already back under several other usernames.

Do a quick search for “Joseph” in the CR, you can do a search on from the post which is stickied on top.

Popa – Doing a search will show his new SN?

blocked: you cannot access the coffee room at all

How do you accomplish this, especially considering the fact that the CR is publicly available for anyone to read?

Wolf – you cant enter the CR under your SN.

    #754841

he cant access the cr at all from his computer.

in addition, we send out agents to monitor his attempts to access the cr from other computers, and deal with the culprit accordingly.

    #754842

blocked, as opposed to inactive, will not even enable you to log out and log in under another screen name

    Wolf,

As long as he has a cookie identifying him, he can be denied access. Obviously, if he can log out he can then view the CR without posting.

    I have been blocked before.

If you sign in, it blocks you from even reading. So you just close your browser and reopen without signing in. Or make another screen name.

I was wondering the same thing. Can they block a specific IP address from accessing the site? That would be my guess.

he cant access the cr at all from his computer.

I assume you mean from his normal IP address?

in addition, we send out agents to monitor his attempts to access the cr from other computers, and deal with the culprit accordingly.

So that disheveled, confused looking person, banging at my door, yelling “LET ME IN, I NEED THE CR!”, I shouldn’t let him in?

even 3 screen names can be popa_bar_abba

    yikes! can i morph back?

iow, only a mod can duplicate a sn? so on the tefila the second popa was really a mod??

    Looks that way.

This was me, Daas Yochid, experimenting. Shouldn’t it be illegal for someone to steal someone else’s screen name?

No, someone can change their sn by their self.

If not for the different subtitle under the two real-briskers, I could imitate anyone and falsely ascribe opinions to him.

    Daas,

That someone was me. The mods did clarify the issue in the Joseph thread, but for some reason they decided to keep leave the subtitle in place.

I purposely made it clear that it was me.

That’s why I added the (someone accused by the mods of being), but I wasn’t sure if you were ruff ruff or ruph ruph or both.

But you didn’t complain, you agreed! 😉

My point is that someone without a subtitle is in danger of being impersonated.

I will try shlishi now (you need an email address with no YWN profile on it).

DY: how’d you shorten your sn?

Real-brisker is right, if this info goes public the cr could go berserk. I have no problem disclosing it if the mods allow, but I think the YWN techies should first figure out how to disallow copying someone’s sn.

When you addressed pba, which one were you addressing; the one who is over the top or the plain member? (On this thread, that was me.)
