well..nouns can be adjectives, like “a circus clown”

so i suppose adjectives can be nouns, its only fair.

    blinky:

    ajar:

    adjective

(esp of a door or window) slightly open

Since this is Popa’s thread, and since it seems to be a catch-all, I would like to publicly thank him and one of the mods for reminding me to change my baby’s diaper.

    That subtitle says it all.

I don’t get it. Popa’s subtitle says: Sometimes a Bit Over the Top. (And occasionally WAY over.)

Is that what got you to change your baby’s diaper? (Me? I use my nose – earlier detection!)

    1. allergy season- no sense of smell

    2. diapers of nursing babies don’t smell much

mod 80- I know what ajar means! And i said use omega 3 (FISH oil) to close it shut!!:)

    #968019

    sorry blinky

i thought you didnt understand, and thought maybe imbibing omega-3 oil would improve your cognition.

    #968020

The term cognition (Latin: cognoscere, “to know”, “to conceptualize” or “to recognize”) refers to a faculty for the processing of information, applying knowledge, and changing preferences.

Mod.- I needed to use all the omega 3 in my brain to understand your post! Such high vocabulary!

    Mod 80,

    To defend Derech HaMelech:

When “fish” is appended to “salmon”, it’s redundant, because what else could it refer to other than fish! When “fish” is appended to “tuna”, it’s not redundant, because if you don’t specify “fish”, it might refer to a bagel.

    #968023

good try but your defense is flawed. there is a salmon blouse, or a salmon sweater, or salmon walls, etc. salmon is a color. so the fish aspect needs to be specified as much as the fish aspect of tuna.

    #968024

Here in Israel they do append ‘fish’ to tuna, salmon and most other fish. After living here a while, one’s English does get affected.

mod 80- I still remember being a little kid and hearing someone tell my mother that she bought a salmon sweater. i thought she was nuts for wanting to smell like fish all day!

    #968026

    adorable

    yes you were confused

a salmon sweater is what people buy for their pet salmon in their backyard ponds during the winter. it can be any color

no she meant a salmon colored sweater

    lol!

(and blinky, i understood what you meant with the omega 3) 🙂

    #968029

why would she buy a salmon colored sweater for a salmon? it would be difficult to tell if the salmon was wearing it or not. i would buy a black sweater for my salmon if a had a salmon pet. i just have goldfish. i dont think they make sweaters for goldfish.

good try but your defense is flawed.

That’s what happens when I work pro bono.

My defense would have worked if he had said something like “I ate a tuna fish”.

Most people I know don’t eat sweaters, even if they smell like fish.

If you are at work, and the demands of the job are such that you can just gaze at the boats, then perhaps you could be learning during the gaze-break, and the boat is indeed your soton.

I think in this rainy weather we are all seeing boats :). Some roads are so flooded, the cars look like they float.

    lol when reading this page!

actually, i speak differently depending to whom i’m talking to. does anyone else?

i think it’s like bilingual kids – who switch easily from one language to the next, depending on whom they’re talking with.

I saw a boat the other day.

I saw a moat the other day.

I did not see a boat in a moat the other day.
