    Moderator 80,

Sorry if it’s a little off topic but how do you become a moderator and what are the guidelines?

I’d say that this thread is no longer so helpful. I personally don’t believe that someone’s spoken lashon hara unless I’ve heard (seen) it.

aries- you absolutely can’t leave- the word chain thread needs you!!!

    briefly

generally you need to be born into a Moderator family. thats usually the only way youll be able to get into the union.

youll need an IQ of at least 140.

you have to go through vigorous basic training and myriad advanced physical and mental courses at an accredited Moderator University before you can even apply for a position. only about 5% of interested parties make it this far.

You become a moderator because you are born to a Mommy moderator and a Daddy moderator. 🙂

    lets see

    if i was a moderator i would

    1. work quicker

    2. work more

    3. encourage more people to join

    and

    4. i would not allow people who claim to be myfriend despite how helpful they feel they are especially when they feel they are always so right to post in the same topic it makes it seem like thechevra is all on one side when it is really just one user

lets make this a better coffee room

“mw13, yeah, if it were true, but it isn’t!”

What isn’t? There was no accusation in my post.

“For one reason, if I attacked Rabbonim, the moderators would never have posted it! So again I say prove it!”

Again, for some reason you appear to think this is only about you. It is not.

That said, if you have a guilty conscience, there might be a reason for that…

And anyways, I seem to remember a specific post of yours complaining that the Mods weren’t posting your comments against Rabbonim.

    10-Luchos(/aries?):

“i would not allow people who claim to be myfriend despite how helpful they feel they are especially when they feel they are always so right to post in the same topic it makes it seem like thechevra is all on one side when it is really just one user”

    Speaking of unfounded accusations…

MW13, “And anyways, I seem to remember a specific post of yours complaining that the Mods weren’t posting your comments against Rabbonim”.

Wrong again, What I said was, that if I had actually bashed Rabbonim the Mods would not have posted it! And no I have only one screen name. I don’t know who luchos is.

MW13 and the other two who keep harping on this. I’m done with this L”H. None of you can prove that I did it because I didn’t. And I have already proved it because it is against the CR rules and it would never have been posted. So stop already what you are saying is untrue and what you are saying is that the CR allows such comments to be posted which is also not true. So can you please stop with these lies already?

“Wrong again, What I said was, that if I had actually bashed Rabbonim the Mods would not have posted it!”

I was referring to a different comment of yours, in which you caomplained that the Mods don’t post your comments attacking Rabbonim but allow others to attack you.

“MW13 and the other two who keep harping on this. I’m done with this L”H.”

I do not believe Lashon Hara applies to anonymous internet usernames.

“None of you can prove that I did it because I didn’t. And I have already proved it because it is against the CR rules and it would never have been posted.”

It is also against the CR rules to have more than one username; Yet the YW Editor himself has written that several usernames here are one and the same, and they are all still posting. The CR rules aren’t always so strictly enforced.

Mw13, Once again you misquoted me and twisted my words so I am taking the advice of the other posters and the other mods and I am going to ignore, ignore, ignore! As of this post I am done with all the nasties. I am going to leave it up to the others to deal with all the twisted comments and rude and unwarranted remarks. The Shaitel story proved my point, how everyone twisted the story, turning the laundromat into cleaners, turning Spanish people into Chinese, turning a qualified Judge into just an arbitrator and twisting and turning tesmitony into words that was never said.

I am going to choose to ignore your attacks and unkind words and move on. I am going to use my freedom of choice and just skip over your posts and if you don’t like me or what I say I suggest you do the same. We can’t please everyone so I am not going to try. I am just going to get on with it and move past it. If you have a problem with me its your problem I am going to choose not to engage with you and the other few who have chosen to attack me whether they are you with other screen names or they are truly other people. So that’s it, it comes to an end for me. I’m done with it.

Wow. Apparently my comment was “twisted”, “rude”, “unwarranted” and “unkind”.

    I just love a calm, intelligent discussion…

“The Shaitel story proved my point, how everyone twisted the story…”

I did not post at all on the Shaitel story thread, so I’m not sure how this proves anything at all about my previous post.

“I am going to choose to ignore your attacks and unkind words and move on.”

aries, I did not “attack” you in any way, shape or form. The first part of my comment was a simple clarification of what I had said earlier, which I was not sure I had made clear; the second and third parts were calm, logical refutations of what you had said. There was nothing in there attacking anybody.

“We can’t please everyone so I am not going to try.”

The reason I come to the CR is precisely to discuss issues with people I don’t agree with (after all, if we all agreed on everything the CR would be rather boring). But if you are not willing to calmly discuss things without accusing your opponents of “attacking” you, then I guess this conversation is indeed over.

Aries- I always wonder why you take these posts so personal.

When I dislike a poster’s comment, I skip over it.

If you think a poster is wrong or offensive, why bother? You will not change them.

For all you know some posters you are upset at are 15 year olds with no life experience or others might just be not so very bright(no offense to any specific poster here please.)

If you really think you’re doing the right thing, then you shouldn’t let other poster shake you. This goes to all posters here.

If someone is hurt, you don’t dissect it,you correct it.

A simple “no harm meant”is sufficient.

Ona’as devorim on the internet…Mods, why do you allow it?Especially,if one poster is clearly older than the other, even more respect is due.

    #990057

eclipse: Should all posters be required to include their age in their bio, so the mods can know who to give more weight to? And should the mods first do an age verification check, to insure no one overstates their true age?

smartcookie, maybe this is why I am sensitive to the holier than thous, and the small minded people who jump to conclusions. A few years ago I frequented another frum blog. I was acquainted with the Rabbi who ran it and I joined because we were both working towards the same goals. At any rate it did not have a delayed posting with moderators, he believed in the honor system and had a “report this post” button.

At any rate, I was very, very involved because I was coaching and mentoring and as was the case there as is here, not everyone was in tune to helping the at-risk kids and many thought they were “bad” and “bums”, there were many who disagreed with me. On Friday afternoon, I had finished my preparations rather early and I was on the blog answering posts up until 10 minutes before lighting candles. Motzei shabbos when I turned on my computer and logged in I was shocked to find the holier than thous spouting all this loshon horah about me saying that you can’t listen to anything I say because I am not even frum or shomer shabbos. Look at the time I posted my last comments, it was way past the zman…yadah, yadah, yadah……

The attacks were so vicious the tears just started to flow. It took a good half hour before I gathered myself to answer. You see, I hibernate in Miami for the winter and the zman here is a good hour after that in New York. I was shocked that these people were so small minded that they assumed everyone on the blog lived in their “daled amos”. It was truly appalling. So I answered them and asked did they really think that the internet was only invented for New Yorkers? Did they really think that the website members only lived in New York? I happened to be in Miami and there happened to be members in Israel and all over the globe. What gave them the right to jump to such disgusting conclusions and say such loshon horah accusing me of not being frum and not being shomer shabbos. They started to back peddle and then say well if the blog is based in New York then you are not allowed to post when the blog is shut down…….

I was so terribly hurt that frum people would be so cruel and viscous it hit me to the core of my soul. That blog was not like this one, people just discussing, that was more of a help line. Other people started posting from Chicago and L.A. and then the Rabbi posted himself. On that blog I used my real name and not a screen name, so it was even more devastating. The Rabbi had a few choice words to say about what happened and of course vouched for my reputation.

So yes, I am sensitive to personal attacks probably because of that, and I am disgusted when people jump to conclusions and judge others for no reason. And this is probably one of the reasons. Everyone with an opinion thinks that they are right. But most people know when to back down and apologize, at least when to back off and stop.

It is truly a sad commentary when yidden just have to keep going at each other without reason, just because they want to be right. How important is being right when you are being hurtful to other people anonymously or not? Does it make a person feel good about themselves that they one-upped another person? Does it make them feel good that they got another shot it, or threw another dagger? Is that what Yiddishkeit is about? Not at my age. I know better.

Aries- When I meet people who jump to conclusions, I view them as VERY narrowminded and not too bright.

If they can’t understand that we each have our own Derech in Avodas Hashem, and we each try to do our best, then they are missing some sensitivity and Sechel.

If you would realize that, then you would see them as fools and you wouldn’t be so sensitive to their comments.

(Of course that incident on that Erev Shabbos was extreme and I would also stick up for myself since an entire site was shaming and blaming you falsely. But some individuals here really shouldn’t move you.)

    #990063

Smile E.: As long as the age verification check is done to insure that posters do not OVERSTATE their true age, I’m good with it either way.

All I meant is that if one person is in high school(they’ve said so), and one person has mentioned their bi-focals or their grandchildren, that is sufficient evidence with which to deduce that chances are the one with the einiklach should be addressed respectfully by the one taking finals.

Age has little bearing on the value of the comments that people make. If someone speaks Torah truth I respect their statement. If someone is 65 years old but spouts am haaratzus and apikorsus I will not respect the statement and will feel free to attempt to correct the person or at least clarify the subject for the others who are reading and think that the person may know what he or she is talking about because of their age.

Age is NOT an accurate barometer for intelligence, knowledge or maturity. Yes technically an older person should be wiser more mature and more knowledgeable but it isnt always the case. Especially in areas of Torah where you have people who are past middle age who rarely opened a Halacha, Hashkafa or Mussar sefer in their lives. There are plenty of 50 year old children out there.

Age does not mean that the older person knows more although technically an older person should know more its far from being the rule. Intelligence is something that you are born with. Its up to the person to use that potential. I have seen young kids who think deeper than many adults and can put them to shame.

WIY, I disagree, Intelligence is something you acquire with age and experience as is knowledge. And I agree, you should use that gift to the best potential. Common Sense is something that you are born with and it is priceless, you just can’t buy it. You either have it or you don’t.

I agree, and would add that euphimisms should be used for anything that we don’t want a ten year old to read.

In addition, I would temporarily block myself for purposefully getting OTB’s goat.
