I think that the moderators for this website should decide to post their names and a breif bio under a heading “about the coffee room”. They could also include a photograph as well. Yeshiva World News is a public service and they are clearly a part of this service. I do not really think that being known as “Moderator 80 or 96” or whatsoever is any way to identify yourself with a community online. True you are anonymous if you need be, but this really feels like a page out of 1984 where “big brother” is watching out for you.

You can tell me to make my own site like someone said to me before, but seriously folks, this is a Jewish connection and for many of our people, we need a forum to discuss the very complicated nature of being Jewish in this day and age. Many people use this as a form of kiruv. I would be happy to host my own forums and I clearly have my own blogs which I will not mention to you here, but I think our days would be much more blessed if we know who the moderators are. You are a business.

How about people like you start using their real names as well.

    You are a business.

You forgot one word. Jewish. This is a Jewish business which by extension falls under the strictures of Jewish business practices. To be more specific, this is a Jewish business that caters to the Yeshivish community in particular. That means it is incumbent upon the administrator(s) of the site to monitor and yes, moderate their site according to the customs and taste of the community that they serve.

You may or may not have noticed, but the name of the site is The Yeshiva World, not The Jewish World. This is not by accident.

Some moderators are women so they cannot have pictures of them.

“How about people like you start using their real names as well.”

Snide remark. Another reason I would like to know more about you.

I am not professionally obligated to share my personal name and whereabouts here online. That said, I also do not derive any financial advancement by posting on this site. The moderators are financed and benefit from their association with this site.

So by halacha as I see it, you have an obligation to show your face and identify yourself more than by being Moderator ##. This is actually in my eyes a violation of the trust our Creator has for our communities. Like it or not, I am not wrong that often.

Can You be so kind, and provide us with “maar mekomos” backing up your incredible “Psak Halacha” which states that we are required to identify ourselves.

    Waiting with baited breath….

BoR, if you don’t like it, leave.

All professional sites have anonymous moderators.

Identify the Mods? That would take us down the “identify the members” road, one which I do NOT want to contemplate.

We all enjoy our anonymity here, including the Mods. Posting pictures would end that.

BoR – I think that you are alone with your sentiments.

Mods – I think that we all disagree with BoR’s opinon. But is that a reason to block her?

he was blocked because he issued a written curse to a fellow Jew on another thread (since been deleted)

Reby, methinks Mod meant “bated breath.”

Pictures would take all the fun out of posting anonymously. This is one of the few places people can truly go unseen. They can form an identity that is nothing like their real life, but not in the fantasy world way. I love this site. Keep your selfies to yourself.
