This is totally me!!! I am so lazy its sad.

So what I do is that if I dont want to do something I’ll specifically do it. L’hachis 😉

    It actually works.

Or, you can make deals with yourself. For example if I do ABC then I can get XYZ.

    Reward yourself!

Stop procrastinating. Find one area that you (or whoever it is you are asking for) is often lazy and decide “whenever that comes up, I’m going to get up and do it right away with zerizus” once you are doing that for a month or so move on to other areas. You have to go gradually.

Also don’t despair just because you messed up or had a bad day. Keep at it until you make zerizus your new habit.

I would add that many lazy people probably don’t get the right amount of sleep, don’t eat healthy, and don’t exercise enough. Laziness can come from lack of energy so get your eating and physical activity and sleep levels in check and you will see a drastic change in your energy levels and mood.

A lazy person who has everything alphabetized, in height order and color coded? That’s a conundrum!

Penalize yourself (i.e. financially) when you don’t do what you are supposed to. Make sure the penalty is meaningful.

Surrender to it. Besides, given enough time, someone else (parents, spouse, roommate, home attendant) will do it for you!

Take me, for example. Today, I’ve asked someone esle to do my posting for me!

    BP :o)

Sometimes laziness isn’t exactly that. It might just be that the person works in spurts: they clean/work on a project furiously for a few hours or a day, and then “laze” away the time they could have spent on that project, had they moved slower.

I guess the question to ask is: Are goals being accomplished one way or another? If so, then this could be termed “functional laziness”

Also – be sure all medical reasons are looked into (thyroid, depression, etc…)

    SPR –

You’re right. Had I thought the OP was addressing a medical or physc issue, I would not have answered that way.

But what I do see is lots of highly accomplished, very over-burdened people still feel they can and should be “doing more”. Not so, and not always. Sure, if its 3 weeks till Pesach, you need to get into cleaning mode. But if its 51 weeks till Pesach, you need to give the Brillo a rest.

We could all use a bit of lazy time.

    myfriend; Do you know me?

it’s not all areas, just one area……..EVERYTHING.

I’m surprised i managed to log in and type this,

I guess it’s not that bad. Thanks! To answer your question,

get them motivated with positive reinforcement.

Reverse psychology might work if you’re crafty, but I guess not if the person you’re dealing with is yourself. Then at least take pride in the fact that half the job is done. You managed to find and acknowledged the problem, now fixing it, is the easy part.

On a serious note, break tasks into smaller tasks, and just make a big effort to start, not finish, even something very small,

once you start there is a certain momentum that will help roll you (hopefully) to the finish line.

What about my problem? I jump from thing to thing. And many times, I will jump from one project to a project called “Sitting around and doing nothing (important) or plain laziness”. I am constantly starting things and then other things come up which makes me start that thing and then I never(?) finish the first thing.

Take for example now, I am supposed to be filling out a form for my (“)boss(“), but I had to go online and somehow I got here…

Dear BenTorah, I think it has been proven to be more effective to reward yourself when you do accomplish something.

I used to work at home, and at the end of the day had to go out to the post office. When everything was mailed, I would reward myself with a small piece of chocolate from the pharmacy. This worked very well, and after a while, I was finished an hour earlier.

The other thing that helps me when laziness strikes, which is most of the time, is to assume an action position. Usually I work sitting down, but on days when lazy threatens to overtake me, I work standing up at my fireplace, writing on the mantel.

It does work — you get more action done in action positions than in passive positions.
