October 31, 2010 5:38 pm at 5:38 pm #705218WolfishMusingsParticipantI don’t drink hard alcohol, including Scotch.
The Wolf (who is proud to say that he’s never been drunk in his life.)

October 31, 2010 6:27 pm at 6:27 pm #705222theprof1Participantglenrothes is excellent. glenmorangie french oak, glenlivet nadurra, arbegh, hey they’re all good so who cares.

Some low end bottles there… 😉
October 31, 2010 6:47 pm at 6:47 pm #705224lkwdfellowMemberI personally like bourbons, but always keep a bottle of Auchetoshen around if there’s a scoth drinker that comes. It’s somewhat shoveh l’chol nefesh, as it’s bottled in bourbon casks. (and it’s not too expensive either…)
October 31, 2010 6:54 pm at 6:54 pm #705225Feif UnParticipantSacrilege: I’ve found all Glenlivets to be good. You can get the 12 year for pretty cheap, and the 21 for a lot. Glenrothes is different than most because they have different vintages with different tastes.
McIvor is a cheap scotch, $15 per bottle, and it’s fantastic.
October 31, 2010 7:53 pm at 7:53 pm #705226popa_bar_abbaParticipantBest bang for the buck: Auchentoshen, the cheapest one.
Best bottle under $40: Balvenie Doublewood.
Good bottle that won’t break the bank: Abunadh.
Most expensive bottle I’ve drunk, and which proved that expensive bottles are a waste of money: McCallan 25 year, $500; tastes a bit smoother than the 12 year, not 12 times better.
October 31, 2010 8:35 pm at 8:35 pm #705227oomisParticipantI personally like the CVS Brand tape myself, but you can go with Scotch, if you like. (It IS more expensive, though).
October 31, 2010 9:18 pm at 9:18 pm #705228postsemgirlMemberOld Williamsburg is good though its not scotch
October 31, 2010 9:23 pm at 9:23 pm #705229HomeownerMemberJohnnie Walker, any label will be fine.
October 31, 2010 9:35 pm at 9:35 pm #705230vnishmartemmeodMemberoomiss – with you on that, totally 😉

I personally find that Scotch brand is of better quality and worth the extra shekels.

Are you catching up to squeak’s old age?
November 1, 2010 1:20 am at 1:20 am #705233frumladygitMemberWhen I first read the title of this thread I assumed you meant lets discuss Scotch tape, and all the ways in which it gets used practically, in a yiddisher shteib!
We put it over all light switches before shabbos!
November 1, 2010 6:18 am at 6:18 am #705234vnishmartemmeodMemberfrumladygit – like “duct tape” huh?
November 1, 2010 1:19 pm at 1:19 pm #705235theprof1ParticipantOMG somebody defiled the good name of single malt scotch, G-ds gift to humanity, by actually mentioning Old Williamsburg. 2nd time todayy. Mod 80 in a different thread defiled the concept too. What a terrible day for all shomer shabbos who observe the “zachor es hashabbos” part by being members of kiddush clubs.
That said, Auchentoshen truly is a great single malt, cheap as it is. All the non-peaty tasting brands and years taste great, different as they may be. I like the peaty brands too but that’s a matter of individual taste.
Oy what a sorrow day. Old Willie and Johnny Walker in the same thread as Glenrothes. Oy.
November 1, 2010 2:47 pm at 2:47 pm #705236bptParticipantI gotta side with Oomis on this one. Of course, I a big fan of the liquid gold, but to have a thread dedicated to it is a bit out of charachter for the CR.
(very funny line, though, Oomis!
November 1, 2010 3:43 pm at 3:43 pm #705237squeakParticipantpopa, it’s your age that’s in question here. Oomis and I have long ago showed our colors. I know you seem to be young, but when you get ninja’d by old fogies it makes me concerned. And drinking doesn’t get harder with old age, believe me- it only gets harder to STOP 😉
Oomis is right, 3M is a good company, you can’t go wrong with their product.
If you’re drinking scotch, though, you want to pay for it. Because if you’re going to go cheap, you’re not going to get aged. And if you don’t get aged, you might as well drink bourbon instead. Or beer. Neither one has the horrible bite of young scotch.
November 1, 2010 3:59 pm at 3:59 pm #705238cantoresqMemberIsle of Jura, Dewer’s Aberfeldy (it’s Dewars single malt and absolutely divine), Johhny Walker Green (in my opinion, while not quite as good as Blue is so good that it’s not the worth paying extra for the Blue), and of course, the true apple of my eye,the Edradour.
