She is extremely smart, extremely articulate.
She is a Republican with an independent mind.
She is, probably, anti-abortion, anti-same-sex-marriage – everything the Democrats are shoving down our throats.
She is a new fresh face for America
    Go Liz, Go !!!

She is more lenient in same-sex-marriage by changing her mind saying that she loves her sister at a Sunday CNN interview.

The thing is, she is also

    1. very conservative on things like trade, international relations, criminal justice, and drug policy,
    2. vocally anti-corruption, and
    3. although she has dabbled in conspiracy theories (e.g., Obama “birtherism”) and defended some policy lies (Iraqi weapons of mass destruction) long after they were exposed, not particularly given to these activities when her own family isn’t involved.

So there are very many reasons why she will no longer be able to thrive in the U. S. Republican Party.

Lizzie is on the verge of losing her primary election and her seat in Congress.

    Good riddance.

She’d make a fine Sanitation Commissioner somewhere in Wisconsin. She could even help clean the streets. She’s unqualified for anything more.

Do you remember 2016, when the Republican field started out with a promising field of reasonable, moderate people, like Marco Rubio, John Kasich, George Pataki, and Jeb Bush? Do you remember Jeb Bush saying, “Donald, you can’t insult your way to the White House”? I would’ve voted for any of them, especially against Hillary. But, no, the American people had to pick this eppes loony who had no background in government, no respect for facts, no regard for the truth, no connection to reality, and no empathy for anyone except himself. Now the governor of Florida attempted to make himself into a Trump clone, but that’s not good enough, the voters want Trump back. Meshuggeners.

She and several other Republicans (who are dismissed as either Rinos or Neocons) would make much better candidates to promote traditional social and secular conservative values but there is no longer any room in the political center. It will take decades before we return to some degree of normalcy and the dangerous fringes on the far left and right have been relegated to obscurity.

    #2108504

I think she has zero audience – she is a traitor for 70% of republicans and a Republican for 100% of Democrats. Maybe some non-voters are for her, but this is not helpful by definition.

My suggestion – Joe Manchin. He is already holding the partial Presidency for 1.5 years and everyone except Progressive (40% of Dems?) are happy with that.

    >>> I disagree with her on many issues but can’t help but respect her for standing up for truth, justice and the American way.

Do you really think she is doing it out of altruism or out of seeking admiring comments like yours , fawning media articles about her and the suggestions that she run for president that no one was making a year ago?

It’s possible that one point in time she was altruistic. At this point the power and honor has gotten to her head.

What does she have to offer anyone other than hating Trump?

When as widely predicated she loses her primary you can be sure she will be whining that it is all because she stood on principle blah, blah, blah. In reality it’s because why do the Republican voters in Wyoming need her for? For her to send out more subpoenas and be on more headlines?

If her message was “I have your best interest at heart and I believe that getting rid of Trump is one of them” she would probably get reelected. Her actual message is “I’m here to get at Trump. Who cares about the people of Wyoming and their best interests?”

    ujm,

She might lose her election, but she definitely will not be on the unemployment line.

She will be remembered in American history books together with Sen. Sam J. Ervin Jr. D-N.C who was the chairman of the Senate Watergate committee in 1973 and Sen. Howard H. Baker Jr., R-Tenn who was vice chairman of the Senate Watergate Committee.

All the republicans that cooperated with Trump on Jan 6th and that continue to refuse to investigate his malfeasance will find their place in American history in the same paragraph as the twice impeached president and Ashli Babbitt.

They are loyal to Trump but traitors to the United States.

Many of them are going to jail when AG Garland and Georgian AG complete their preliminary investigations.

You keep looking for Hillary’s emails and Hunter Biden’s laptop.

Defeated candidates have managed to end up winning the White House (Nixon lost being Governor of California, and then won the Presidency). Abraham Lincoln ran and lost for Senate, and then won the Presidency.

If the Republicans run Trump (or a fanatic MAGA isolationist), and the Democrats run Biden (or even better, run an enthusiastic WOKE candidate), there will be an opportunity for a third party founded by the “ruins” of the moderate wings of the Democratic and Republican parties. Cheney and Romney (and perhaps Collins or Murkowski) are possible founders of a new party. McMullin if he wins a Senate seat would be a very strong possibility. Among Democrats, candidates, or at least founders, of a third party would include former Senator Lieberman, Manchin and perhaps Tulsi Gabbard from Hawaii.

For a third party to win, both the Democrats and Republicans have to move to radical extremes. The third party doesn’t need to win a majority of electoral votes, but only enough to force the election into the House of Representatives where being the second choice of both parties would be enough to win.

I remember the last time a third party candidate ran (twice) and had a successful campaign but was obliterated in the elections.

    >>>What about John Kasich?

Amazing that because he hates Trump liberals believe that John Kasich is a man of principle as opposed to an opportunist jerk.

We’ll put aside that Trump was only candidate by the 2016 Republican debates to refuse to support whoever the Republicans nominee would be, but then when Trump became the nominee breaking that pledge and not supporting became an act of principle for Kasich

Kasich is the one person who could have prevented a Trump presidency. In 2016 when it was him, Cruz and Trump who were the only candidates left in the race, Kasich would have needed him about 85% of all future delegates to become nominee.(an impossibility) Therefore the Republican party begged him to drop out and not split the anti-Trump vote so Cruz would be the nominee. Kasich refused and Trump became the nominee without ever winning the majority in any state. Yet the Democrats still believe he is all principle and only motivated by country over party and not wanting Trump as president. As opposed to relishing in the honor they are giving him for claiming to have such motivations

    #2108897

Ayn hara – just when I mentioned Manchin, he got covid. Maybe all the libs wishing him bad …

RebE, Mitt Romney already tried and he lost because he was too nice to fight fellow Americans who were playing dirty. He was used to respectful arguments in the boardroom. I don’t recall libs saying – look at an honest clean businessman with reasonable medical insurance plan, no, he was guilty of war-mongering and dog-torturing.

RE: “It is impossible for a third party to win.”

Ever hear of the REPUBLICANS. The two major parties were badly divided, and they won majority of the electoral votes with roughly 40% of the popular vote, and largely dominated American politics for the next 50 years. The fanatic MAGA and WOKE movements, denouncing the previous party establishments as RINOs and DINOs, with attachments to fake issues (voting fraud, personal pronouns, etc.) are the opening needed. Many Democrats will refuse to go WOKE, many Republicans are already turned off by Trump (which is why he lost in 2020).

The Dems (including AOC) are publicly saying tehillim for Joe M although privately hoping that the State of West Virginia collapses into some big sinkhole.
As others have noted, there are an increasing number of Republican voters who have realized that one can support candidates with conservative policies on economic and social issues w/o sinking into the MAGA slime with Trump.

    akuperma,

The 2 party system that the US has now is very well established and is a fact.
There are no other parties that stand any chance of winning.

If a candidate runs as a third party spoiler even though they have no chance of winning, it will be to the detriment of the other 2 and cause one of them to automatically lose the election.

Parts of a party can be woke or maga but they are still part of the 2 party system.

“My suggestion – Joe Manchin. He is already holding the partial Presidency for 1.5 years and everyone except Progressive (40% of Dems?) are happy with that.”

    From YWN WhatsApp group

In a startling turnabout, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Sen. Joe Manchin announced Wednesday they had reached an expansive agreement that had eluded them for months on health care, energy and climate issues, taxes on higher earners and corporations and federal debt reduction.

The two Democrats said the Senate would vote on the wide-ranging measure next week, setting up President Joe Biden and Democrats for an unexpected victory in the runup to November congressional elections in which their control of Congress is in peril. A House vote would come afterward, perhaps later in August. Unanimous Republican opposition in both chambers seems certain.

Just hours earlier, the expectation was that Schumer, D-N.Y., and Manchin, D-W.Va., were at loggerheads and headed toward far narrower package that Manchin was insisting be limited to curbing pharmaceutical prices and extending federal health care subsidies. Earlier Wednesday, numerous Democratic senators had said they were all but resigned to the more modest legislation.

    from google:
Is John Quincy Adams related to John Adams?
John Quincy Adams, son of John and Abigail Adams, served as the sixth President of the United States from 1825 to 1829. A member of multiple political parties over the years, he also served as a diplomat, a Senator, and a member of the House of Representatives.

The “forward party” is a great example of the stupidity of a third party.
Anybody know any of the actual positions of the Forward Party on issues?
    How will they govern?

Or will they just say “lot of democrats don’t like the current democratic party and a lot of republicans don’t like the current republican party – ergo just vote for us”. That is idiotic!

When they actually reveal their positions , they will be the same current positions of either most republicans or democrats.

    ujm,

Liz is a member of the Republican party. She is a strong believer in everything the Republican party believes and has always voted together with them.

Wisconsin and many other states have destroyed the Republican party and are really the TrumPublican Party. Their loyalty is to Trump and not to America.

Only if you are not loyal to America do you believe that indicting and convicting a former President for a conspiracy to overthrow an election is somehow bad. Only if you are not loyal to America do you believe that you have to get revenge for indicting and convicting a former President for a conspiracy to overthrow an election.

Liz has gladly removed herself from having anything to do with the anti-american trumpublicans. In her own words , they are a stain on America and will be remembered as seditious traitors.
