I think i have discovered the source for peoples middos declining. I just recently was listening to marvelous midos machine number 1 and Dr Middos is pretty impatient and snappy.
….Please shnooky light the match please..
…shnooky cant you see im busy…
…yes shnooky what is it…
April 2, 2012 2:56 pm at 2:56 pm #1073237ZeesKiteParticipantNo. Not quite so. First of all, he did say please, twice. Second, he is a absent-minded professor – hence his impatientness. Then also, bear in mind, he had so many responsibilities, he had no time for niceties. Did you head a surgeon request “Kind dear assistant, could you please graciously kindly hand me over the scalpel”? (Even if you did, it’s not the way I perform operations) And he had the whole machine (kugelator, grepslink etc.) to take care of.
Teachers are faced with this sort of dilemma on a daily basis. To afford one more attention on the expense of the whole class, school. It’s actually better middos to take care of a kllal than a yachid. – In my humble opinion –
April 2, 2012 4:12 pm at 4:12 pm #1073238sbephParticipantzeeskite i think your kind of thinking is extremely skewed. If it wasn’t for shnooky the midos machine would still be unplugged, yet the only way shnooky prevailed was with interrupting dr midos when he was ignoring him, and than after getting snapped at informing dr middos with a shaky voice that the machine was unplugged. (Frankly i have a different theory why dr middos keep the settings for children only)
April 2, 2012 5:43 pm at 5:43 pm #1073239ZeesKiteParticipantSorry. I’m working in developing an Eyain Torah. As my profile states “Middos Under Construction”.
Besides: To be dan l’kaf z’chus – Are you an absent minded proseffor? Do you know what it does to a person. That he displayed ANY good manners, that he mishes with people, shows he worked on himself!
April 3, 2012 4:47 am at 4:47 am #1073240LogicianParticipantOn the other hand, it is the first children’s tape I have ever heard that properly explains “vatranus”.
April 3, 2012 6:49 am at 6:49 am #1073241ZeesKiteParticipantI LOVE the last one, where he expertly deals with a lot of Yiddishkeit issues not addressed so commonly (chesed, hislahavus, vatranus). A real valuable chinuch tool.
April 3, 2012 12:02 pm at 12:02 pm #1073242LogicianParticipantHe doesn’t “get” chinuch, though.
In the first tapes, he made it sound s though the kids just changed on the spot. He said in an interview that he doesn’t get carried away thinking about the effect of the tapes, and quoted a story about kids who argued where to sit while listening to the shalom song. And then incorporated it into his last tape, when the kids become impatient right away again.
I give him more credit than he gives himself. Of course kids won’t change right away, but they def. absorb the messages, and slowly learn whats right. It also builds an inner knoledge of whats right, as they’ve absorbed the message when young, and will be more likely to actively work on themselves when older than kids who didn’t make a fuss about midos when younger.
April 3, 2012 12:42 pm at 12:42 pm #1073243sbephParticipanti agree zeeskite however being dan lchaf zechus tape characters is a HUGE machlokes. Also Dr middos really does mellow out in the last tape (he sounds like he gained 20 years experience in just a week) really very inspiring how much mussar could help
October 27, 2013 2:18 am at 2:18 am #1073244👑RebYidd23ParticipantIt’s bad middos to spy on people and say they’re doing something wrong. Hypocrisy.
April 21, 2015 7:03 pm at 7:03 pm #1073245catch yourselfParticipantWhy isn’t it Lashon Hara for the screen to display (and the characters to announce) the names of the subjects of each Middos Alert?
April 21, 2015 7:31 pm at 7:31 pm #1073246Little FroggieParticipantL’toeles, for a specific purpose in mind.
(I asked the great doctor himself, while I was putting up that funny looking antenna on his roof)
April 21, 2015 7:36 pm at 7:36 pm #1073247golferParticipantI don’t believe this!
I’ve seen all sorts of criticism here in the CR, from whining and belly-aching about perceived lack of tolerance from one character or group to another, to downright nastiness and “ein lo chelek l’olam haba” denunciations.
But Dr Middos?!?
Is nothing sacred?
April 21, 2015 8:08 pm at 8:08 pm #1073248Little FroggieParticipantYou got it wrong. We’re trying to learn from him… We’re analyzing, studying every line…
April 10, 2018 8:48 am at 8:48 am #1504533shnelParticipantTo whom it may concern,
I can’t seem to find an old post of somebody asking what the name of a kids tape is about Bank robbery, and then there are kids a camp, and there’s a fat kid whom they make fun of, and at the end, he saves their life because he’s fat. I am posting this because I know the name. It is “A place for everyone” by Rabbi Yitzy Erps.April 10, 2018 8:54 am at 8:54 am #1504543Reb EliezerParticipantIt says בצדק תשפט עמיתך followed by ולא תלך רכיל בעמך. If you judge people for the good, you will not go and spread gossip.
