Next?
October 28, 2010 10:47 pm at 10:47 pm #785683LemonySnicketParticipantDefinitely the Chassidish bus! The Yeshivesh bus will just be singing Abish Brodt songs the whole time and make for a very somber and depressing trip. The Modern bus will probably stuff up the toilet and everyone will be named Avi or Josh so it’ll be a very confusing and the Chassidish bus while being far from perfect will have the best food and nigunim (i could eat gala and matjas herring all day) and they probably will all be wearing baseball caps which look both hilarious and adorable on any Chassid.
October 28, 2010 11:04 pm at 11:04 pm #785684SacrilegeMemberModern. I bet they have the best entertainment 😉
October 28, 2010 11:18 pm at 11:18 pm #785685SacrilegeMemberLemony
The herring? A weeks drive? The smell…

Taka you’re right! Oh well, you could always freeze dry.

October 29, 2010 10:16 am at 10:16 am #785690vnishmartemmeodMemberThe MO bus. For kicks. That’s why I’m traveling, no?
October 29, 2010 10:32 am at 10:32 am #785691minyan galMemberI vote for the Chassidish bus as well. With such a long trip, the food and song will be very important. If the “catering” that I encounter during my weekly class at Chabad is any example, then the bus trip should be like a wedding banquet. Also by the end of the trip I figure I will have retained many new and lively tunes – perhaps even a few dance steps. I don’t know exactly how much dancing one can do in the aisle of a bus, but where there is a will there is a way. Beeri, beeri, bim, bom – I can hear it all now. When do we leave???
October 29, 2010 2:16 pm at 2:16 pm #785692aries2756ParticipantI would say the MO bus. It would be the quietest ride. Everyone would have brought their own entertainment either books, ipods, or dvds. They would all have good personal hygiene so they would all smell good. And they probably had their food packed properly in containers and coolers. Or they are all on diets with only shakes and protein bars so no smelly foods.
So I make that choice now because I am in availus. I am not looking to mingle at this time. I am not looking to be a part of a crowd. I am not looking for noise. I am looking for peace and quiet and to find my inner voice and to reflect on my own thoughts and feelings. And maybe also to relax if that is what the trip is about.
October 29, 2010 2:46 pm at 2:46 pm #785693squeakParticipantAll of a sudden Jews are leaving New York? In that case, I’m staying!
October 29, 2010 2:57 pm at 2:57 pm #785694blinkyParticipantlemony and emoticon- i used to be obsessed with those too then i moved on. (the count was too mean for me:)
BP totty- why bedavka from NY to LA?
October 29, 2010 3:50 pm at 3:50 pm #785695rescue37ParticipantAfter having the taken the NY-Montreal bus on a motzei shabbos, the chassidish bus is definitely out. When you say the yeshivish bus, do you mean guys in yeshiva or guys who left yeshiva full time and have degrees and work at professional companies. I would take the latter but would take MO over the first.
October 29, 2010 4:00 pm at 4:00 pm #785696SJSinNYCMemberI would take the quiet bus.
I commute with enough annoying people who think that you are plotzing to hear the bass coming out of their ipod. No thanks on a cross country trip.
October 29, 2010 4:18 pm at 4:18 pm #785697LemonySnicketParticipantemoti- i have no idea :p haha
October 29, 2010 4:20 pm at 4:20 pm #785698LemonySnicketParticipantBlinky – lol yup the count is pure evil. Lemony ain’t all that bad though
October 29, 2010 4:21 pm at 4:21 pm #785699ronrsrMemberany bus, a good set of earplugs, and a good book. When are we leaving.
October 29, 2010 4:25 pm at 4:25 pm #785700cokeMemberBPT- put me on any bus that you wish, but count me in! I would chose the bus that you and Dr. Pepper are on!
October 29, 2010 4:31 pm at 4:31 pm #785701Feif UnParticipantThe yeshivish bus would have cigarettes stuffed in the toilet/sink after half an hour.
I definitely wouldn’t want to be on the chassidish bus – I imagine they’d bring cholent and kugel along. A bus full of chassidim eating cholent with only one bathroom? Sorry, not for me!
The modern bus would show a movie during the drive, which I don’t mind.
October 29, 2010 5:58 pm at 5:58 pm #785702bptParticipantAries –
I’m sorry to hear of your loss. Its a sobering reminder that life is not only about fun and games. I did see your post earlier, telling of the shiva, but could not think of what to add to the other posts.
Hamokom yinachem, bsoich avelei, tzion – BPT
October 29, 2010 6:18 pm at 6:18 pm #785703bptParticipantLemon, Blink and Sac – The “obsessed” comment went right over my head, so if its something suitable for an open forum, please enlighten me.
And the reason I picked NY – LA, is this way, we can swing down to Tennessee and Kentucky (to visit the historical places found there, v’hamaven yovin :), and then stop off in Scottsdale to see the Rebbes on vacation
Sorry, Rescue – There is no telling who is on the bus. It could be rowdy bochurim, or Kensington’s best. All I can assure you, is that its only your gender.
And Coke – There’s only one seat left, and you can’t see who’s on the bus before boarding. Hmmm which one would BPT and / or Doc Pepper be on?…
October 29, 2010 6:50 pm at 6:50 pm #785704phrumMemberI was going to say modern because they have the best movies but Sacrilege beat me to it, and I guess one could always watch some on an iPad anywhere anyway! 😉
October 29, 2010 8:16 pm at 8:16 pm #785705SacrilegeMemberPhrum
I wont have the Ipad unless *someone* gives it to me before this trip…

October 29, 2010 11:13 pm at 11:13 pm #785707mischiefmakerMemberim in LA already. No need to make such complicated decisions lol
If I had the choice, I’d rather take a plane with all my friends than travel on a bus full of random people. Or I just wouldn’t go.
October 30, 2010 8:52 pm at 8:52 pm #785708emoticon613Memberlemony – ‘i haven’t the faintest idea of what is going on here’ (her first word back from the hospital, and her comment in the eighth book about klaus’s bedsheet rope situation (? – not sure aobut that last part)

Great! I have plans already for Shabbos Mevarchim and I may be in China for the following Shabbos, but if not (and I hope to put that trip off till afterwards) Vayeitzei would work great, with Vayishlach in reserve if needed. Mods, please give Sacrilege my email address. Thanks!
October 31, 2010 8:34 pm at 8:34 pm #785713SacrilegeMemberPhrum
China?! Hold on a sec, did you go to Darche Noam?
October 31, 2010 11:24 pm at 11:24 pm #785714phrumMemberSacrilege
I did not. Did you?
November 1, 2010 1:08 pm at 1:08 pm #785715SacrilegeMemberPhrum
Not unless I was masquerading as a guy… Although now that I think about it, that doesnt seem like such a bad idea.
November 1, 2010 2:50 pm at 2:50 pm #785716blinkyParticipantBP Totty- the books we are talking about are a series called A tale of unfortunate events or something like that, and the author is Lemony Snicket. Basically it was a story of a family of orphans who live by their mean uncle and a lot of unfortunate things happen to the family- they have it in the library.
Now I have a question- Coke said she’ll go on the bus with you and doc- I thought it is a one gender bus? (Ok maybe your female bec you wear a sh. tichel) but i got the impression that doc. was male- so is it one gender or not cuz if its not i would join coke on your bus;)
November 1, 2010 2:58 pm at 2:58 pm #785717cokeMemberBPT- you are very original that you even thought of this one! I like this idea but not the same-gender part of it! I want to be on the bus with you and and doc…. I think that one will have a combination of the best food and the most entertainment. Keep me posted about when we are leaving. I just need a few days notice so I can let my boss know!
November 1, 2010 3:32 pm at 3:32 pm #785718bptParticipantSorry, Blinky. Its only one gender per bus. I did not read enough of Cokes posts to determine which side of the mechitza is the correct one, so left it hanging.
Besides, you’d find the boys bus quite dull (all we talk about are cars and scotch)
November 1, 2010 3:44 pm at 3:44 pm #785719blinkyParticipantGirls’ bus can be quite dull too all they talk about is clothing, shopping….etc.
November 1, 2010 3:46 pm at 3:46 pm #785720SacrilegeMemberBPT
Count me in.
November 1, 2010 4:05 pm at 4:05 pm #785721bptParticipantYeah, Sac; I noted your choice of cars in an earlier post (a Mase? woah).
BTW, Blinky. Too bad you were’nt in the car yesterday. I was the only male and the rest of the passengers talked clothing / shopping all the way home from Monsey.
And when I spotted (and alerted everyone) that a Ferrarri is in the next lane, all I got was blank stares.
November 1, 2010 4:12 pm at 4:12 pm #785722phrumMemberSacrilege
Hence the humor, Yentl!
November 1, 2010 4:15 pm at 4:15 pm #785723SacrilegeMemberBPT
Ever drive through the Hamptons? You can spot a few Lamborghinis. Niiiiiice.
November 1, 2010 4:48 pm at 4:48 pm #785724WIYMemberSacrilege
I’m sure the guys must love talking to you on dates, you know your booze and cars.
November 1, 2010 5:07 pm at 5:07 pm #785725squeakParticipantYou’ve got to admit, some muscle cars serve no purpose at all (except to show off- and all you’re showing off is how much money you sank on your car). Anything you can do with your Lambo/Maser/Ferrari/Porsche on public roads, I can do with a Vette or even a Camaro. Ok, you’d beat me out of a light by a fraction of a millisecond, but beyond that you never get to USE any of the vast available power*.
If you’ve got private roads and a private track, fine, that’s different. Go drive as fast as you can in circles.
*Note: I recall a famous political figure was asked about his Ferrari by reporters (assuming that they were cornering him into admitting to breaking traffic laws with it). His clever reply was to the effect of “the law may be you can’t drive faster than 65mph, but it doesn’t say how quickly you can get up to that speed out of a tollbooth”. Nevertheless, the difference between a Ferrari and a Vette in this regard is modest. The price difference is not.
November 1, 2010 5:24 pm at 5:24 pm #785726SacrilegeMemberSqueak, Squeak, Squeak…
Youve been living in Brooklyn far too long (do you?)
Imagine driving down the PCH at 120 MPH with the top down…
Besides, I’ll gladly take a Corvette or a Camaro, both of which come in at a cool 50K
WIY
I do try to give guys a good time, dating is stuffy enough as it is… I was going to say that I’ve never gotten in to the topic of booze, but now that I think back, I have! HA.
November 1, 2010 5:26 pm at 5:26 pm #785727bptParticipantGo drive as fast as you can in circles.
Believe it or not, Monticello (yes, that monticello) has a private track where you can drive your speed demon as fast as you like (or can manage)
And, no, I don’t mean the Monticello raceway, where it just an oval. The place I mean has a system where they can “shunt” you off to a new section in the track, so no two rides are identical.
Membership is a bundle, but I guess if you can afford a 6-digit car, you can afford the yearly dues too. Then again, with a 6-digit car, you can probably afford the speeding ticket too
November 1, 2010 5:42 pm at 5:42 pm #785728SacrilegeMemberBPT
There is a place in Chester NJ where for 4 hours (and a meager $1,695) you spend 4 hours driving late-model exotic super cars. You drive 5 cars for 20-30 minutes each on a scenic road course, and then you rotate.
I wanted to get this for my father for his birthday, but unfortunately he works too hard and cant take the time… Hopefully for the big 6-0.
November 1, 2010 5:43 pm at 5:43 pm #785729blinkyParticipantBTW, Blinky. Too bad you were’nt in the car yesterday. I was the only male and the rest of the passengers talked clothing / shopping all the way home from Monsey.
BPT- Gosh how did you manage that? I’m glad i wasn’t in the car!
November 1, 2010 6:20 pm at 6:20 pm #785730squeakParticipantI did live in Brooklyn, but not for too long (how could anyone live there too long?).
Anyway, you are essentially agreeing with my point. For 50 or 60K you can own as much muscle as you’d ever realistically be able to use. That amount of cash is not so unattainable for middle class folk. (Imagine a girl who works but lives with her parents because she isn’t married yet. A year of savings could buy one shiny black Vette – not red, of course – and completely turn the tables on the shidduch crisis).
BPTotty- maybe you and I will take a spin there one day. Do they allow day memberships?
November 1, 2010 6:48 pm at 6:48 pm #785731arcParticipantsqueak, jesse ventura said it and camaro is a muscle car.
