yeah haifagirl calm down this is a forum not an entrance exam. You understood exactly what (s)he was saying and so did everyone else.

Haifagirl, to me, underuse of apostrophes is much less annoying than overuse.

In defense of HG, many posters take the time to use capital letters, punctuation marks and spellcheck so their posts are easy to read.

But many do not. So while HGs point of apostrophies might be a bit overkill, if its not called out, next thing you know, you’ve got posters writing things like “cuz” when they mean to say because(instead of the more correct ’cause).

    Keep ’em comin’, HG!

I like it when haifagirl offers her grammatical wisdom. We should all be able to write correctly. Perhaps if someone uses a colon instead of a semi-colon, haifagirl should go easy on it..

Sorry. I speak Orthodox English. I don’t go in for any of that Conservative or Reform English.

    “Orthodox English”

Why settle for just Orthodox? Can’t you make the commitment for Ultra Ortho? And once you’ve aced that, you can strive for Toldos / Meah Shearim English!

(sorry, that was a carry over from the oxymoron thread)

No apology necessary. That gave me a good chuckle for the morning.

haifagirl simply put-you need to get out more. Someone was asking a simple question and wanted a simple answer. I think it was nasty of you to reply with a comment on the grammar

There used to be a commercial on the radio for a language school that taught English to native English speakers. It went something like this:

You are judged by the way you speak. Do people see you as a professional?

That’s true. How do you want to be perceived?

Kindly objectively reread hg’s and your own comments and see which one you determine to be the more “nasty” one.

    TIA.

Guys, we need to stop bashing one another. Whether it’s over one’s lack of grammar or meticulous use of grammar/punctuation/diction , it does not a difference. Please consider what forum we are in – Yeshiva World News. Who populates this forum? I would hasten a guess that we are all Torah Jews. That being the case, lets respect one another as is appropriate to each of our individual madregas. Thank you.
