Anyone know of any good cheap places to go skiing near Chicago. (like an hour away)
December 7, 2010 5:17 pm at 5:17 pm #715537popa_bar_abbaParticipantSalt lake city is the closest. Take I-94 south to I-80. Go west on I-80 until you hit I-15. Take I-15 north for about half an hour and arrive in Park City, UT. There will be signs to the three area resorts.
Alternatively, you can take 80 to 215 and follow signs for the cottonwood canyon resorts.
No, I did not use any mapping software to write this.

December 7, 2010 8:40 pm at 8:40 pm #715539TheGoqParticipantPopa despite what you and most new yorkers think the rest of America aka (not ny/nj) is a rather large area and Chicago and Salt Lake City are actually very far apart
December 7, 2010 8:44 pm at 8:44 pm #715540YW Moderator-80MemberThe straight line distance between Salt Lake City and Chicago is approximately 1257 miles
December 7, 2010 8:51 pm at 8:51 pm #715541gavra_at_workParticipantBesides, you would probably take Lake Shore Drive (From WRP) to 55 (or 290/88) to 80.
A quick search (I don’t Ski) brings up Wilmot.
December 7, 2010 8:52 pm at 8:52 pm #715542TheGoqParticipantbut gee its all out of town so whats the diff right popa?
December 7, 2010 9:20 pm at 9:20 pm #715545popa_bar_abbaParticipantthat is right. It is all out of town.
My main point was there is no skiing in the great plains.

December 7, 2010 11:03 pm at 11:03 pm #715547HIEParticipantHow about skii places near ny?
I can think of windham, hunter and Shawnee
December 7, 2010 11:07 pm at 11:07 pm #715548popa_bar_abbaParticipantYes, the skiing in NY is not as bad. I’m recommending Windham for a day trip, and southern vermont for an overnight.
About once a season, the catskill resorts will get a snow dump. Last year right before purim they had 5 feet in three days. The third day was taanis esther, and I was in Hunter snowboarding deep powder all day.
December 7, 2010 11:26 pm at 11:26 pm #715549HIEParticipantWindham is great went there last year
December 7, 2010 11:31 pm at 11:31 pm #715550popa_bar_abbaParticipantThey had an air bag last year.
You jump off this monster jump and land on a big balloon. It was great!

December 8, 2010 5:51 pm at 5:51 pm #715553✡onegoal™ParticipantCross country skiing is monis and takes to much energy
December 8, 2010 8:06 pm at 8:06 pm #715554squeakParticipantOK that’s the second time you’ve said “monis”. What does it mean?
