Why do people (myself included) post on political threads when no one is going to be swayed either way by anyone’s comments?

I’ve had success swaying people to my side. On religious issues and on political issues.

Everyone’s opinion is based on things they heard, read and saw throughout their life. Therefore, any comment can have an effect on someones take on a situation.

I think that at least SOME readers live in a bit of a bubble and really would not be exposed to some of the views posted here absent CR. I think CA is correct that very few views will be changed but sometimes its good to become more aware of what is driving the beliefs of others who may take a totally opposite perspective.

Joseph, don’t flatter yourself. The only effect that you might have on other’s opinions is to convince them to hold the opposite of whatever you espouse.

In truth, when someone has a firm belief in anything, there is little chance that anyone can sway them to another point of view. I used to teach my students that it was important for them to be able to SEE another’s point of view, even if one does not AGREE with their point of view. Granted, this is something that actually takes practice.

Regardless of who I vote for, I can understand, even though I heartedly disagree with, other peoples’ opinions and thoughts regarding who they choose to vote for. Being able to see, even understand another’s point of view, is a very useful skill to have, and frankly, it makes arguing with someone who is a complete lackwit (of which there appear to be an inordinate number of here), a lot of fun.

Redleg, on multiple occasions after a discussion with persons of the opposite viewpoints of myself, they’ve outright told me I’ve made excellent points and convinced them of the correctness of my position.

Its fun to argue abt politics!!! Im conservative and pro trump and i get passionate abt this stuff. And i hate when people dont see how wrong they are and how much more moral and truthful and better conservative principles are!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes its so maddening. But i still dont stop. You gotta just do it!!!

Will this post get censored? Why do posts about getting censored generally not get censored?

Joseph, My comment was half (only half) in jest. Sometimes, on the basis that even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while, you do, occasionally, posit a lucid idea which which I may agree. usually though, your posts read (and sound) like the incoherent ramblings of a surgical patient just coming out of anesthesia.

Alternatively, dear redleg, you are so far on the left of the religious and political spectrum, than anything right of center strikes you as incoherence.
