Posting how much is posting too much?

262 threads started, at least 1381 posts in different threads, all in less than two years. That’s a lot. In fact too much.

    So with that…

(ps feel free to pull out any of my oldies)

I would say you have no life…but that would just be mean

I know that, that’s what’s making it easier (a bit) to leave.

The mean part or the no life part?

Haha nice counting! What do people who post a lot do while they are not posting? Check for potential posting opportunities?

    ZABACHUR:

I wanted to leave on a slightly lighter note. I thought you’d chakima brimeeza. Yes, every shtech shtechs. As every kind word soothes, uplifts. I’m aiming for the later, in my new “outside CR” life.

hey purpleone, just a warning! Those hair dyes dont always wash out so quickly, some take a week to completely fade. Just so you know your hair might be a bit sparkly for a week!

Let me know when I am posting too much. Sometimes I think I should take a break. But since I have to be on the computer for work anyway, I know from past experience that I will just read more news sites instead, which is definitely not better for my ruchniyus than YWN.

    Any suggestions? Squeak? Syag LChochma?

But since I have to be on the computer for work anyway, I know from past experience that I will just read more news sites instead, which is definitely not better for my ruchniyus than YWN.

exactly why I started posting! I would sit in meetings reading news stories about serial killers and missing children and then unsolved mysteries and all the things I used to read in novels before I stopped reading secular books. It was really bad. So I would post here. Now I have a boss who doesn’t always let us bring our computers to meetings 🙁 I also had no internet at home for over a month.

Lately, I have been involved in a miserable situation in my community that has almost taken away my faith in mankind and I kept wanting to post threads about why moshiach isn’t here and why he probably isn’t coming any time soon. I knew that would be be a terrible thing to post online so I just tried to stick my face into magazines and tehillim instead.

But enough blabbering, I never answered your question. *ahem* You don’t post too much if your words are pleasing and pleasant (which they are!) and if your time online is not in place of time you should be spending with either Hashem or other humans. Like when you are on the computer anyway and you are keeping yourself from less ruchnius sites.

And thus endeth my re-emergence soliloquy.

    Et tu, Syag?

Torah- Not everyone is interested in every thread.

Sometimes interesting threads become boring, and versa vise.

So refreshing the CR is always welcome, In my boastful opinion.

The arc many posters have followed is:

    1) Lurk for a while.

    2) Register and and type a few tentative posts, hoping not to sound foolish or get told off.

    3) Get more comfortable, make “friends”, and be more yourself with your posts.

    4) Get really comfortable, post often on a variety of topics and threads, feel as if you “know” many of the other posters.

    5) Wonder if perhaps you are spending too much time thinking about topics and posters here. Wonder if maybe you’ve posted too much revealing or personal information.

    6) Post less often and on a smaller variety of topics.

    7) Take a break from posting. Consider stopping.

    8) At this point, a) some people actually leave, b) some try to leave but return, and c) some remain but post far less prolifically than they have in the past.

Of course, there are other categories as well.

    – Some just keep going and going like the energizer bunny.

    – Some (unfortunately) are hurt or take offense and leave for that reason.

    – Some are concerned about being influenced in ways they don’t think are proper.

There are several posters who are no longer active whose writing I miss, but that’s the way it goes.

You’ll have to make your own decision about what “too much” is and what’s best for you.

    Syag Lchochma

Sorry you’re having a tough time.

Unfortunately, people can let us down when we least expect it in extremely hurtful and disappointing ways.

On the other hand, we can always be pleasantly surprised by unexpected kindness and thoughtfulness when we least expect it from people we don’t expect it from.

In life, there are always unexpected ups and downs.

All right – I’ve used up my share of trite chiches for the day. ?

    Hope things improve for you.

thank you. Your cliches were right, and we have seen some unbelievable acts of kindness and we remember that Hashem has His cheshbonos so we don’t have to keep a tally.

Thanks for your kind words, as always. Thanks for your chizuk, as always. Tizke L’mitzvos. 🙂

    – sorry, got mixed up between old English and Latin 🙂

    Hope everything works out fine.

“Sometimes I think I should take a break.”

Actually, I’ve been thinking that recently myself. I’m spending way too many hours here, and getting into discussions that are far too heated. I think I might be headed for the tail end of ICOT’s curve in the near future.

There is no CR without people posting. If posting too much brings you happiness, have at it. Achievement of your happiness is the only moral purpose in your life.

Squeak: “Achievement of your happiness is the only moral purpose in your life.”

I would shorten that statement to “Achievement is the purpose of life.” If I would throw in happiness, I would leave out all the subjective words (like “your happiness” and “your life”).

Wow everyone, thanks. Happy energy received.

Unfortunately it is an ongoing situation, presently in the courts and I have to curb my need try to “spread truth” and “save the world”. The only way to prove someones’ innocence in this case is by maligning someone else. It is a tremendous nisayon for to sit back and watch but I am begging Hashem for bounty in return. I am willing to share though.

Goq – Now about that slurpee, meet me at the ole’ Foster and Kimball 7/11 and I’ll treat you to an extra large. Just say when. And I thought of you on Pesach when I was looking through yearbooks, I bet you were in there somewhere. If I ever figure it out I will mail you a slurpee card anonymously and you’ll know it was me who did it.
