There is now a story in Lakewood about a 67 y.o. that just died from a heart attack. This post is No way about him or anything that is related to him.
It just got me thinking. He didn’t look overweight. This post is about prevention of cardiac disease.
A lot of people think that I don’t have to worry about it – saying I’m not fat & I don’t smoke.
But the truth is everybody has to worry about this!
The USPSTF recommends that adults w/o a history of CVD use a Statin drug for prevention with all of the following:
1) 40 – 75 y.o.;
2) Plus 1 or more CVD risk factors:
– lipid abnormality
– diabetes
– hypertension
– or smoking.
3) Plus a 10 year calculated risk of a CVD event of 10% or greater. So every adult 40 – 75 y.o. needs universal lipid screening & the calculation.
You could do the calculation yourself. There are calculators online. Just put in the info that is required.
Or you could have your PCP do it for you.October 26, 2021 7:03 pm at 7:03 pm #2021057ujmParticipantShkoyach.
What do you do once you had the screening and calculation?
October 26, 2021 11:27 pm at 11:27 pm #2021121Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantThere are also recently changed recommendations for preventive aspirin and using statin instead as Health above. You can also walk more and stress less.
October 26, 2021 11:28 pm at 11:28 pm #2021122southernerParticipantI am a female internist age 52. I just started myself on atorvastatin. It should be added to drinking water. The benefits far out way the risks.

Read the post carefully.
If you have all 3, you need a Statin drug from your PCP.
He’ll/she’ll decide which one.October 26, 2021 11:46 pm at 11:46 pm #2021185gildaParticipantAtorvastatin is a vitamin herb medicine? What are the risks?
October 27, 2021 1:14 pm at 1:14 pm #2021425HealthParticipantGilda -“Atorvastatin is a vitamin herb medicine?”
It’s a Statin.
It’s in the name.
A prescribed drug.
One of a few Statins.October 27, 2021 1:14 pm at 1:14 pm #2021428ubiquitinParticipantHealth dearest!
“So every adult 40 – 75 y.o. needs universal lipid screening”
A few years ago you said recommendation was age 20
“Most authorities recommend doing lipid testing starting at 20 y/o.”I pointed out that this was only in the presence of risk factors
To which you replied
“I can’t teach you current medicine!”Interestingly now you’ve raised your age for universal screening to “So every adult 40 – 75 y.o. needs universal lipid screening”
I’m glad you caught up on current guidelines
from this fun thread

“Most authorities recommend doing lipid testing starting at 20 y/o.”You keep proving that you don’t know the First thing about Medicine, even though you claim to be a MD!
You gotta learn some reading comprehension.
I wrote this – “The USPSTF recommends that adults w/o a history of CVD use a Statin drug for prevention with all of the following:”
There’s No contradiction!October 27, 2021 2:11 pm at 2:11 pm #2021495ubiquitinParticipantHealth
“I wrote this – “The USPSTF recommends that adults w/o a history of CVD use a Statin drug for prevention with all of the following:””Correct. You wrote that and it is true It is waht I said last time you brought this up, and it was true then too..
However On THAT thread you wrote
“Most authorities recommend doing lipid testing starting at 20 y/o. If within normal range, most hold to repeat testing every 5 years.” This is Universal Testing!”see it?
(* and no you didn’t mean age 20 + risk factors, since thats what I said to which you replied “I can’t teach you current medicine!”)
If You don’t see it, thats ok I guess you won’t .
I don’t want to detract more than I already have from your thread.“There’s No contradiction!”
Agreed. not a contradiction per se, there you misstated guidelines, you have since taken the time to correct yourself. That’s great!October 27, 2021 3:08 pm at 3:08 pm #2021503HealthParticipantUbiq -““Most authorities recommend doing lipid testing starting at 20 y/o. It’s very Sad that you have No reading comprehension past Elementary school!
That is correct – above.
Do you see the word “Most”?!?
Now we have the USPSTF that isn’t from the “Most”.
That’s why I posted this -“There’s No contradiction!”
Any more Absurd questions from you?!?
I know that you post with many SN’s – so with any of them?!?October 27, 2021 9:49 pm at 9:49 pm #2021733ujmParticipantAnother episode of the Health-ubiquitin squabble! Pass the popcorn and enjoy the show.
Regularly scheduled commercials will resume in sixteen days, following the ending of this fun-filled part.

I think that this time he knows he’s wrong! It’s all in the medical books or online.
The other one which I had my case go to SCOTUS – the only way I could prove I was right was to give out my name.
I didn’t want to do that, just to prove a point!October 28, 2021 8:49 am at 8:49 am #2021792☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat point did you prove?
October 28, 2021 9:15 am at 9:15 am #2021829ubiquitinParticipant“I think that this time he knows he’s wrong!”
Lol, no just the opposite This one is super black and white
But boring .
Fake supreme court cases, thats exciting stuff. but getting the age wrong when lipid screening is recommended, especially if now you have it right. meh boring
Though UJM, question for you “and enjoy the show.”
I assume you are kidding, nobody can possibly enjoy this (besides me and him obviously)
October 28, 2021 2:13 pm at 2:13 pm #2021971HealthParticipantDY -“What point did you prove?”
That I had a case that went up to the SCOTUS.
October 28, 2021 2:42 pm at 2:42 pm #2021986HealthParticipantUbiq -“but getting the age wrong when lipid screening is recommended, especially if now you have it right”
Stop proving that you No Nothing about primary care!
I’ll repeat it – “Most authorities recommend doing lipid testing starting at 20 y/o. If within normal range, most hold to repeat testing every 5 years.” This is Universal Testing!”Why don’t you look in a Current Medical book?!?
Maybe this is your enjoyment, pretending that you are right?
But the problem with this, in this case, – is that some people might take you seriously! The reason I started this topic with the USPSTF protocol, which is against Most protocols, is because if you didn’t do Lipid testing by 20 – 40 y.o., it’s Not too late to start it at 40, providing that you don’t have CVD or know about that you have CVD.
