DeGeorge Syndrome has nothing to do with Downs syndrome. It’s something to do with calcium deficiencies, etc. Anyone????

“Mods: you can’t delete it cuz this is the random thread!”
Actually, it’s the Random Questions thread. I didn’t see a question anywhere in your post. Incidentally, though, I happen to agree with you that the quality of writing in Jewish books is overall inferior to the quality of writing in secular books, albeit with some exceptions.June 24, 2009 9:54 pm at 9:54 pm #1081102

I didn’t like it that Mrs. Lawyer (forgot her name) didn’t just show good old fashioned appreciation for the living room set her hubby treated her to. She gets all girlish…all emotional…not my type at all!June 29, 2009 3:18 am at 3:18 am #1081110

When I came back from Israel, I started a new rule in my house that every person has to give a short Dvar Torah during Shabbos meals. I’ve been using my rabbi’s weekly shiur which he posts online, but he’s on vacation for the month of July, so I need a new source for the next four weeks. My problem (and this is an excellent problem to have!) is that there is just TOO MUCH out there and I don’t know what to pick! I did try the YU website, but nothing I found there seemed to compare with my rabbi’s inspirational ideas.
Does anyone have any suggestions of websites with shiurim that they have personally read and particularly like? (Not just common Torah websites, I know plenty of those, I’m asking for recommendations of personal favorites.)June 30, 2009 7:14 pm at 7:14 pm #1081116
yossi, there are easier ways to do that! Scroll all the way down on the main CR page and you should get to the list of categories. From there, you should be able to find what you need.
Mazel Tov again!
JF2, may I assume that the DT’s posted in the CR aren’t of caliber?June 30, 2009 8:28 pm at 8:28 pm #1081117
Hmm, I didn’t even think of that. Thanks for the suggestion. But what will I say to introduce it? This Dvar Torah is B’sheim Rabbi Jax???June 30, 2009 8:31 pm at 8:31 pm #1081118
ha ha! lol.
Well, I plan on posting one tomorrow night & I’ll try to post the source, ie. the Rabbi that says it.
I believe kapusta’s is from Rabbi M. Kamenetzky.July 1, 2009 3:10 am at 3:10 am #1081120July 2, 2009 8:15 pm at 8:15 pm #1081122

just curious here. does anyone know how many mods there actually are? (they seem to be somewhat randomly numbered)July 2, 2009 8:39 pm at 8:39 pm #1081124
I think there are THREE mods. They just switch around numbers here and there to give the impression that there are really more. Dont worry, not 99 mods!July 2, 2009 9:07 pm at 9:07 pm #1081125

Anyone has any tips on how to get a fish odor out of an article of clothing?July 9, 2009 3:43 pm at 3:43 pm #1081128
Anything else?July 9, 2009 3:57 pm at 3:57 pm #1081129
Introduce a new odor that is more powerful. Try smoke.July 9, 2009 4:57 pm at 4:57 pm #1081130
Ummm, you smoke? Cuz I’d need someone to do the services….
Unless you were referring to smoked lox. THAT might work. Except, its also a fish. 🙁July 10, 2009 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm #1081131
well what color is this garment? because if it is white there are certain types of bleaches (i forget the brand names right now but my mother has one) that can get it out detergents i don’t recall anything at all (due to the fact that at the times when i am usually at risk of getting fish on me i am typically wearing white)July 12, 2009 1:54 pm at 1:54 pm #1081132
Errr, its black. And I think it was fish oil 🙁July 12, 2009 2:22 pm at 2:22 pm #1081133
mepal, how did you manage that one? I’m totally guessing here, but maybe soak it for a few hours in a strong detergent. Then wash it a few times in a heavily scented one.July 12, 2009 3:12 pm at 3:12 pm #1081134
lol kapusta, I really do NOT wish to embarrass myself here more than I absolutely must! But thanks for your tip.July 13, 2009 9:02 pm at 9:02 pm #1081135
mepal: ouch you got a tough one there but i would put my vote with kapusta (just make sure that the detergent doesn’t alter color)July 14, 2009 3:19 pm at 3:19 pm #1081136
Maybe dry cleaning? It sounds like a job for a professional, but I wouldn’t bother unless it’s a fancy/expensive garment.July 14, 2009 6:06 pm at 6:06 pm #1081137
kapusta, yossi, this is what happened. I tried kapusta’s idea (which was really funny since normally, I give my ‘dirty’ work to cleaning lady/my mother. This time, I was really embarrassed and I didn’t want anyone to know so I had to figure out how to do it myself. That’s what’s great about the CR!) Anyways, so here I was trying to do something I had no clue how to do, I was sure something would go terribly wrong and I’d have to call my mother. Help! Thank goodness, I think I got it right. I soaked the garment in tons of good smelling detergent plus color safe bleach overnight. Then I put it in the washing machine with the next dark load. Dont ask, I felt like I was in the olden days, doing laundry by hand. Whatever. It was a real experience! It came out smelling SUPER good. BUT, the fish smell is still slightly there. It doesn’t smell “bad” (the fishy part) so, I’ll have to see what I’ll do, like if other people will smell it when I wear the garment.
JF, its not dry cleanable. Can you imagine? Most things are these days. I wouldn’t have gone through all this trouble if it was!
Thanks all for your help!July 14, 2009 6:16 pm at 6:16 pm #1081138
mepal: cleaning by hand is not from olden days boy scouts still do it! 🙂July 14, 2009 6:56 pm at 6:56 pm #1081139
ha ha! but come on, not really the norm. There are washing machines with a ‘hand wash’ setting.July 14, 2009 7:02 pm at 7:02 pm #1081140

what does it mean when a thread is “sticky”?August 5, 2009 2:36 pm at 2:36 pm #1081144
yossi z.: a sticky thread is a thread that stays at the top of the board always, even with no replies for a while!

On the upper right hand side of the screen is an option ‘Page’ with an arrow pointing down. Click on that. You’ll find an option there ‘text size’ and adjust accordingly. Good luck!August 5, 2009 2:50 pm at 2:50 pm #1081146
