Still, if you find a new and struggling place that deserves to be publicized, why not let us know about it?

    ====================================

It costs the U.S. mint more than 1cent for each penny it creates and more than 5cents for each nickel.

The bureau of printing and engraving could save several billion dollars by eliminating the $1 bill and replacing it with a coin.

    It seems obvious that:

    – the penny should be eliminated

    – the nickel should be replaced with a cheaper-to-mint coin or eliminated

    – cash transactions will need to be rounded to the nearest five or ten cents. Checks and other non-cash transactions can still be rounded to the penny.

    – the one-dollar bill should be eliminated.

    – the five and ten dollar bills? Keep them.

A parachute jump can be done after a 4 hour class, the entire adventure costing around 200$ Do it while you’re still young enough to enjoy it 🙂

    2qwerty-

“Is this part of internet etiquette?”

    I don’t know.

I try to be “mentchlich” in conversations here, but I don’t always have the time to respond to everything I would like to. Other reasons for non-response may be:

    – posts and/or threads are missed.

    – there is no response needed.

    – the discussion has taken a non-productive turn and there’s nothing to be gained by continuing it.

    – someone simply has nothing more to say on a topic.

    – there is concern that a reply may provoke an argument or hurt feelings, either with another poster or possibly just with a reader.

    – etc.

    Moderator- You’re welcome.

    #953044

    Syag Lchochma-

Thank you very much, but honesty (not modesty) compels me to admit the following:

It is far, far easier to modulate a response on a forum like this, where it takes time to type out a response, all the while being aware that it’ll now be available for the public to see forever, than it is in spoken conversation.

In real life, I’m (unfortunately) far more likely to blurt something out in haste and/or anger and/or thoughtlessness that I later wish I hadn’t.

Random thought: Wouldn’t it be nice if we had an “Edit” window for spoken words?

    #953045
    🍫Syag Lchochma
    Participant

ICOT – It’s interesting that you say that about having an easier time modulating responses her. I find it easier in real life. Here, when people make cutting, degrading or hurtful remarks they don’t disappear, so I feel more compelled to (obsessed with) leave a rebuttal for the sake of future readers. Usually nobody cared enough and I should have just not bothered, but I have that “you never know” feeling. In real life I could 1)judge by faces if the words left bad impressions that need correcting, 2)not worry about future readers since they are not in writing, 3)avoid situations warranting those responses. But I do edit often. And I will use this random moment of introspection which you inspired to be more thoughtful myself.

Time to put my mouth where my money is:

    A few food recommendations are:

Sushi Meshuga on East 17th St. between Kings Highway and Ave. P in Brooklyn (sushi). Very nice guy behind the counter (owner?), good product, and reasonably priced.

Ocean Fresh on Avenue M between East 17th and East 18th Streets in Brooklyn (fish/sushi). Good sushi at very good prices. Their daily special(s) are posted outside the store.

Off The Grill at 600 Central Avenue in Cedarhurst (meat). Excellent food and service at reasonable prices. Good place to go for anniversary, etc. Dinner for two with appetizers and desserts usually comes to about $100, a bit more including tip.

IMO, sushi is an acquired taste.

“He can dish it out, but he can’t take it” is a common way of saying someone who dispenses insults gets offended when one is directed at him.

OTOH, “He can dish it out, and he can take it” means that he may make comments that can be perceived as insulting, but he will also receive such comments in good grace.

A praiseworthy characteristic that is almost never commented on is “He doesn’t dish it out, but he can take it” – someone who is both careful not to insult others, yet overlooks and is mochel insults directed toward himself.

    ====================================

Although I’ve frequently rebuked others in my self-appointed position as CR scold, in almost every instance I’ve felt bad thinking about the hurt inflected on the recipient. Perhaps I should either stop doing so altogether, or at the most just phrase a “please stop” request in the most parave terms and then not follow up to avoid intensifying any possible disagreement or having a discussion degenerate.
