Does it bother anybody that A. Winehouse is being cremated, but the “Rabbi” said they had a funeral days later because of Jewish law to do it right away? One -It’s terrible for a Jew to be cremated and two- it’s a Inyan to hurry up and bury, not to hurry up and cremate!

Sadly this happens daily only this one is a high profile case. The family is inocent since they don’t know better but the “Rabbi” who could of made the diference in explaining to the family the velue of a jewish ???? no matter how far it wanderd away chose not to do so.

if it did bother me, what could I do about it?

deiyezooger: The “rabbi” is no rabbi. It may even be a woman. I doubt he or she cared any more than the family and probably didn’t even know any better than them.

there are no jewish laws or customs concerning how soon to cremate, so the rabbi may have really been on her own here.

The halacha is to wait as long as possible. Because it is assur to do it, so you can’t do it now. Or now. Or now.

No sarcasm intended, but if you are so concerned with the neshama of this singer, where were you 5 years ago, last year, last week?

apushatayid is right. I’m going to now try to save Jackie Mason’s neshama before it is too late.

    Anyone have his number?

apushatayid, you make another excellent point.

Let us pray her tortured soul finds some rest, and that her family finds comfort among the mourners of Zion.

Not what you could have done. What can you do. There are hundreds of thousands of not millions, of irreligious and unaffilliated jews in the world. All you have to do is start by reaching out to ONE. Any one of them.

ronsr – Very well said. She was still somebody’s daughter and the anguish that her parents are going through should not be known by anyone else. At least they are sitting shiva for her. I don’t of anyone who would care to trade places with the Winehouse family at this particular time.

    Yes.

“where were you 5 years ago, last year, last week”

I have volunteered many hours for a organization that helps Jewish alcoholics, addicts, and their families.

It’s not a question of what we can do, it’s a question of if this bothers us. And yes, it bothers me to see the halacha so distorted by this “rabbi” to make it appear that cremations are OK.

Mods, please change the thread title to “Reform Jews.” “Reformed Jews” makes it sound like it’s about alcoholic Jews who stopped drinking, or about Jews who had plastic surgery.

It bothers me that sadly, there are Yidden who don’t know any better.

I agree that they don’t know better. Of course, the “rabbi” should know better, but might have wanted to do what the family wanted. Still though, the person should explain the laws to the family so they can make an informed decision.

What we in general need to do is reach out and bring our fellow Jews in, like the owner of shabbat.com who has many guests B’H. Slowly, show them the beauty and truth of our heritage.

And of course, also continue to show our own children the joy, truth, and beauty in our heritage

And my point is….if the distortions of that “rabbi” bother you, counteract his or her teachings by reaching out to one of his or her congregants.

Several years ago there was a “reform rabbi” who married his gay partner on Tisha B’Av in Massachusetts in a “traditional Jewish ceremony”. Very hard to understand their religion.

Most Frei people do know about burial and not to cremate. Since when has it become common to know nothing about Yiddiskeit? Just like most Frei know what Kosher means, even if they don’t keep it.

    #821202

they (almost)all know that the Jewish religion forbids cremation.

they dont know why, or the importance of proper burial.

its sad enough that she died the way she did and lived the way she lived. its even worse that after her horrible life and death she didnt have a proper burial. I pity that family

While reading up about Bugsy Siegel I noticed that he was not buried but placed in a crypt at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.

Is there anything that can be done?

Many Jews who don’t believe in Torah and halacha hold that it’s a mitzva to cremate; both from an economical and environmental standpoint.

…or lack of the aforesaid. But actually, I don’t find it that hard to understand; they simply take what parts of Yiddishkeit they like and completely ignore whatever doesn’t quite strike their fancy. What a disgusting distortion of the Torah.

No, the problems begin with the Reform movement itself.

That wouldn’t be so bad, but with the gays I heard some sort of Drosha they have (Reformed) with Adam & Steve instead of Adam & Eve! Talk about -“What a disgusting distortion of the Torah.”!

I didn’t know Amy Winehouse died. How sad. I don’t know the details but I know how sad her life was. Let’s daven and do what we can so our kids – all our kids – have wonderful Jewish exposure and opportunities, and I hope that she’s finding some level of peace in the Olam Haemes.

Supposedly, in the new Reb Moshe book (Expanded 25th Yahrzeit Edition) there is a picture of Reb Jackie. Rumor has it that on page 91 he is the one standing on the far left.

    (Don’t quote me on it.)

It might have started as some joke, but they have some serious Drosha from it – how their behavior is ok. Something like it doesn’t matter to G-d if you are just like Adam & Eve or if you are like Adam & Steve, he loves e/o! Why don’t you ask Brad Lander? In his Shul is where this person I know heard this Drosha.
