    Explain “the link disappeared”.

It is supposed to disappear, and be replaced by a hyperlink with the title “LINK”

    For example, LINK

    #902785

    it said: “start here”

    and nothing else

im sure i did it wrong

there was a ” that i thought i wasnt supposed to put in

    maybe i should have

yes, you should have. In fact, the easiest would be if you just copy/pasted from my post in the jokes thread.

    #902787

i did copy paste (except one little teeny character)

<sigh> Clearly you are not trained as a programmer. One character can mean the world.

(Especially if the character in question is “squeak”)

Thanks for the link Mr Mod. for some reason when I googled it they didn’t show me that page.

It was actually for an History essay which I hope I didn’t fail ;). Uch, I would freak out if I had tests this early on in the year!!!!

BP Totty do u have lights and sirens in your Oddessy?

No, CB, but a friend of mine is a hatzoloh driver, and once I was in the car with him when a call came thru.

Let me tell you, the adrenalin rush I got from flying down the aveune, lights and sirens blairing, watching the kids (and adults) stop what they’re doing to see us rip down the street like we’re chasing a bank robber, whoa, talk about thrilling! Better than the rides in Astroland! (ok, it was a non-emergency call, but he took it to the max, and I loved every minute of it!)

But were I to get a tricked up, fully loaded, set of wheels, needless to say, I’d not do it to the Oddessy.. I’d spring for the Lotus!

(ok, it was a non-emergency call, but he took it to the max, and I loved every minute of it!)

That’s the problem. The abuse of lights and sirens. Like when in a traffic backup, to use them to pass traffic. Or go through a red light you just missed. All without any emergency.

Or to park illegally when not taking calls.

believe me, I know your pain (I live in BP, remember?)

But still, its quite thrilling (and they do a huge service on the whole, so I guess its a fair price to pay).

    C’mon.. myfriend…be a 12 year old for a few minutes!

I never knew how to make a link. Then I saw the thread called link and I made “Visit W3Schools.com!” a bookmark on my computer. Now every time I want to put in a link, I hit the bookmark and copy it from there. Easy as pie!

(Please note: words in bold are links which will take you to what I was referring to…)

For all those who think the rental market in our community is high (which it is), the NY Times has an article about a bldg just south of the Bklyn Bridge that is built out of wavy aluminum walls (the inside walls are wavy too).

    The expected rental rate? $3000 / for a 450 sqft studio (that’s roughly a 22 x 20 room).

This, for an apt that has wavy walls. Go figure.

    #902795

    whats wavy walls?

    #902796

    Participant

The walls are not straight. Most buildings have flat sides, except for maybe an alcove, or some rounding on the fancy brick ones.

This one is completly wavy, like the way a skirt might drape (not the straight skirts, the billowy ones).

If you ever walk the Brooklyn Bridge, you can see it to the left, as you head towards manhattan (or you can check the article on the NY Times website (its called the Gehry Towers)

    BP Totty-

Is that the one where construction material came raining down near city hall one windy morning and they had to close off the street?

    #902798
    bpt
    Participant

Not that I know of. The last time I saw it was before the Yom Tovim, and at that point there were still scaffolds attached to it.

The Times article did not mention anything about construction delays or mis-haps, so my guess is, it was another bldg.

So, barring any falling debris, are you saying you’re interested in a wavy walled, $3000 apt? (Not sure if that includes a parking spot, so you might want to check the fine print 😉

Is there ANYTHING else about this building besides it’s wavy walls (and maybe a wavy parking space)?!

It happened on January 25th 2010, when the building was called 8 Spruce St.

Can’t really say I’m that interested in paying $3,000 a month to live in a cubicle.

(P.S. Let me know if you move in, you sound like a wonderful neighbor to have.)

    “wonderful neighbor to have”

Nah, in real life, I’m as exciting as a house plant. Ask my neighbors if they know BP totty, and they say, “Who? Oh, you must mean the guy we hardly ever see, the one who spends all day and night blogging on some on-line chatroom, Charedi World Tea Time, or something like that.”

Besides, if we ever do wind up being neighbors in a $3000 Manhattan studio hi-rise, we’ll never see / speak to each other anyways.. we’ll be too busy jogging or walking the dog

If you want wavy walls, there are easier, cheaper, and more enjoyable ways to get them. For instance, try Maker’s Mark.

And I’ll have you know, Doc P, our colony is one of the top 10 in the catskills. Not a lux place, or summer homes, but a good, fun, quirky place, all the same. And chance are, if you were to come for a summer, you’d love it! (Just don’t “out” me when you figure out who I am 🙂

No, in fact us chassidim will drink all brands of bourbon, a our American mesorah is, bourbon does not need a hechscher (as opposed to scotch, which does) (unless I misunderstood what you meant by rein)

By rein I meant pure. As in, less water. These 2 year-old chevra (i.e. bourbons) are usually 60% water, which makes sense for 2 year-olds NTTAWWT. It’s like Slivovitz with no sugar.

Your comment about water reminded me of a funny story:

And elderly Chabad’zke was told by his doctor that the cough he has is “water on the lungs”.

“Water? When did I last drink water?” he thinks to himself.

Oh, he realizes, It must be the 4% they mix into “zeks-un-ninziger” (for those not familiar with Chabad, behind Absolut, the drink of choice is a local brew which is 96 proof, or 48 percent alcohol)

    BP Totty-

I took my wife and kids for a ride on the ferry this past Sunday and pointed out that building to my wife- she thought it was a very elegant building.

    Are you moving in?

    #902816

Whoa. This time its not just a different version of the story (as it was with the gefilte fish on the train), but you’ve also made an important mistake.

Zechs und neinziger (one brand is Everclear) is 95-96% alcohol, not 96 proof. It is 190-192 Proof.

As for the story, the version I had was a little different. A older gent refused to drink anything but pure zechs und neinziger. His friends and relatives told him he’s crazy, it’s too strong, and that drinking it will kill him. He would reply that if anything, it’s not pure enough and that he wishes it were 100%. On the day he goes to the doctor and learns that he is afflicted with water on the lungs he says, “Oy, I alvays knew dat 4% vas gonna kill me”.

I love old gents jokes! This is really old- an old guy complains of chest pains. His doc says- try loosening your belt!

What a riot, Dr. Pepper. I was on the ferry this Sunday too! 10:30 outbound, 2:30 return.

And yes, Squeak, you are right. I made the math error, thinking nothing could be 192%, so I must have heard wrong.

(Sorry, BP is a long way off from 770, so the details are a bit fuzzy.)

And thanks for the story re-write. (this one, and Yankel / Ivan)

Details are a bit different, but the message is the same, but its always nice to shake things up a bit!

Why would anyone spend $3000 to look at Brooklyn?

Blinky be on the Mods watch list? You have a better chance of being on the FAA’s watch list (I mean, those 500+lbs suitcases on the LA-Paris flight did raise a few eyebrows). But when they called the CR for a background check, we told them it was 499 cans of tuna fish and a contact lens case, so they let it thru)

What I wanted to adress was a comment made in one of your lymmiricks.

So folks, how was everyone’s weekend? Mine was ok, but very tiring. It started out as a brisk walk, but somehow led to “just want to stop in to XYZ store, for just one minute” which became 30, so I’m glad to get back to the desk, where I can get some rest.

    What did others do?

We have our share of busy moments here at the widget factory I work for. But right now, the paperwork dept is a bit slow, so I have more time to CR.

Besides, if you want to really fall into a deep sleep, try standing in a store, where the only things on display are of ZERO interest to you (for me, yesterday, this was linen). Let me tell you, I could sooner spend 30 minutes watching an ant hill. But to see the frenzy in the store? You’d think the shoppers were examining the Hope diamond.

    BP Totty-

I’m still in shock at how close I came to meeting you and your family on the ferry last week. I think we also took the 2:30 ferry back. I would have loved to introduce you to my wife and kids, I’m sure they would have gotten a kick out of you. (I’m sure you must be more interesting than a houseplant.)

Well anyway, I didn’t know where to post this so I guess I’ll put it here since it happened on the ferry.

There was this really cute British couple there with their two kids, the kind of family you’d love to have over for supper. (No, it wasn’t their humour that gave it away, it was their accent.)

The wife asks me if I’m a native and if so can she have permission to ask me a question. I respond in the affirmative to both.

Pointing to the Brooklyn Bridge, she asked if it was built by England. I answered that it was designed by a German named John Roebling but built by Americans, possibly immigrants but not by the English per se.

“Wasn’t that the bridge that was built in England and sent here by boat in pieces?”

At this point her husband interrupted and said, “Sweetie, you’re mixing up the Brooklyn Bridge with the Statue of Liberty and England with France!”

“But Honey”, she countered, “wasn’t there a bridge built in England?”

“Yes Sweetie, it’s called London Bridge, but it’s in London, not New York.”

“But Honey, didn’t we give one to New York as a present?”

“Sweetie, please stop, you embarrass me every time you open your mouth.”

(They were both giggling at the end and she still insisted that one of the bridges was a gift from England delivered here by boat and assembled.)

We must not have been on the same ferry, as the one I was on had a tour bus full of Eastern Bloc looking fellas, that in a different era, would have been introducing me to the business end of a baseball bat.

Sad to say, this weekend was not nearly as exciting. Hope your was more fun!
