Someone got a computer fully intending to use it for only proper things. But now, instead of doing that, this person is asking random people on the internet questions about the chinuch of his/her children, and halachic questions such as hilchos gezeilah! Should such a person break their own computer, so they will be more inclined to ask an actual Rav?July 6, 2014 9:14 pm at 9:14 pm #1038487
No. Breaking a computer is always wrong, as they can be sold on Ebay using a borrowed computer.July 7, 2014 12:40 am at 12:40 am #1038488Sam2Participant
Destroying one’s own property is an Issur of Bal Tashchis. If a person’s property is causing them more harm than good (e.g. wasting too much time on the internet) then presumably it is Muttar for one to break their own property.July 7, 2014 1:27 am at 1:27 am #1038489
No, they can give it to me.July 7, 2014 4:11 pm at 4:11 pm #1038490popa_bar_abbaParticipant

Especially if such property happens to be a tree near a city under siege.October 29, 2014 5:49 pm at 5:49 pm #1038492lamud vov tzadikParticipant
I once had iPod and broke it for the above reasons.October 29, 2014 6:51 pm at 6:51 pm #1038493ChortkovParticipant
Why break it if you can give it away?
If the question was should one rid oneself of it, is “Obviously” not the correct answer?October 29, 2014 7:41 pm at 7:41 pm #1038494ari-freeParticipant
I think the OP was just making a satire of another thread from a while agoOctober 29, 2014 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm #1038495RandomexMember

Obviously. I’ve started to think the bumper knows that perfectly well, and I think that’s starting to be obvious too.October 29, 2014 8:11 pm at 8:11 pm #1038496
Wasn’t there a satire of this one?October 29, 2014 11:56 pm at 11:56 pm #1038497vayoel mosheMember
You can always sell it there’s no point to break in fact it might be assur to do soOctober 30, 2014 12:09 am at 12:09 am #1038498BTGuyParticipant
As of this posting, it reads you started this post about three months ago. By now the computer should be well on it’s way to being broken on it’s own accord.
