I’m not from the USA, and haven’t fully researched the electoral process, but may I ask…
Why is there no conservative candidate running for the 2020 presidential election beside for Trump? (Or perhaps there is that I don’t know about?)
Because, I assume, there are many on the Left who don’t want to vote for Biden. And some on the Right who want to vote Right, but (for whatever reason) don’t want to vote for Trump.
So, I’m speculating that if some new Conservative where to come along, who has all the clean-cut, nicely-spoken presentation to appeal to those on the Left and Centre (who are too hesitant to vote for Biden), but also sticks mostly to the policies of the Right, I’m guessing that such a person could quite easily snatch away a massive portion of the voters and win this election?
Why is there no one like that coming out?
July 16, 2020 1:25 pm at 1:25 pm #1882813avnerkParticipantbecause he has zero chace against Trump.
July 16, 2020 1:25 pm at 1:25 pm #1882795MosheFromMidwoodParticipantTrump won the nomination in 2016 in a field of 17, many who were far more conservative, especially Ted Cruz. You are assuming, for whatever reason, that there is a large population that wants someone more conservative, but it was not borne out by the last election. It is not clear why there are Republicans who opposed Trump so much when he has carried out agenda items that should please Republicans, but be it as it may they hate him. Sadly there is little appreciation for the good things Trump has done but instead focus on ridiculous things like his tweeting. But he clearly loves America and is up against the Left, which clearly doesn’t and want to turn into a socialist country. Most of all, as long as president is an incumbent, it impossible for anyone in his party to successfully challenge him for the nomination
July 16, 2020 1:25 pm at 1:25 pm #1882791☕️coffee addictParticipantIt’s a good question (for someone not used to our system of voting)
It actually did start off as other republicans in the race but they dropped out Because they saw they cant win due to lack of coverage
The main reason is because the party in power wants to stay in power and dividing up your base won’t win
July 16, 2020 1:25 pm at 1:25 pm #1882789n0mesorahParticipantDear Shady,
Ross Perot attempted exactly that. He received 1,974.3821 votes in 1992 as an independent and 8,085,294 in 96 with the reform party. Trump got involved in 2000. But did not stay the course. The party received only 448,895 votes. With the green party picking up 2,882,955. It is an interesting study. (And it highlights that Trump is not a bigot or a conservative.) The main fallout was that the Conservatives spent their most successful decade tearing each other apart. As a result, there are very few truly conservative politicians on the National scene. Those on the State level are risking their careers by running for President.July 16, 2020 1:25 pm at 1:25 pm #1882765CircleParticipantIt’s obvious you’re not from the US and get your news from AP and CNN. The vast majority here are very excited to vote for Trump. Not the askonim but the regular people.
July 16, 2020 1:25 pm at 1:25 pm #1882755Someone in MonseyParticipantTrump has enourmous support among the hardcore Republican base. There have been a few other candidates who have declared a run for the Republican nomination, but they were decimated in early primaries and have left the race. There might be one or two still trying, but they don’t have a chance – Trump’s support is far too strong.
July 16, 2020 1:25 pm at 1:25 pm #1882747charliehallParticipantThe Trump Cult took over the Republican Party. Someone like Larry Hogan would win 40 states against Biden.
July 16, 2020 1:25 pm at 1:25 pm #1882733lowerourtuition11210ParticipantGenerally in US politics one does not challenge the incumbent that represents the same party.
July 16, 2020 1:26 pm at 1:26 pm #1882719akupermaParticipantThe answer is that the US has a very fixed two party system, with free elections within each party to determine the nominee. Trump defeated the more traditional conservatives in the primary election in 2016. No elected president has been seriously challenged for renomination by his party, so the next opportunity for a traditional conservative is in 2024. In all fairness, it seems the conservative platform of small government and a muscular foreign policy seems somewhat out of favor at the moment.
In the election persons who dislike Trump, or Biden, have few choices as the American system makes it almost impossible for a “third party” to win (this happened only once, in 1860 when both parties fragmented, and the election triggered a civil war). Those unhappy with the presidential candidates can elect congressional candidate more to their choosing, and unlike most democracies, the American legislature is totally independent of, and in many ways more powerful, than the executive, and has a long tradition of annoying the elected chief executive.
July 16, 2020 1:26 pm at 1:26 pm #18827251ParticipantConservative or republican? Bill weld is running against him in the primary.
July 16, 2020 2:53 pm at 2:53 pm #1882877n0mesorahParticipantFor everyone who thinks that the Republicans and Conservatives are fully behind Trump see The Lincoln Project. And this does not count the Republicans who were pushed out for not accepting Trump. Or, those that did an about face (like Lindsay Graham) and are quietly working on what the party would like after Trump.
July 16, 2020 2:53 pm at 2:53 pm #1882876n0mesorahParticipantDear Charlie,
“Someone like Larry Hogan would win 40 states against Biden.” I disagree. In between JFK and Obama, every President was a successful governor. Both candidates this election and last, were not. National name recognition is crucial to run today. People must have some picture of the candidate before they start soaking up whatever partisan drivel they are fed.For example the ‘Biden Is No Moderate’ thread. With a thirty year plus record it is obvious that Biden is very much a moderate. But because Trump and Biden are both Trying to expand their voters to the left, they are both claiming that he is an icon of the liberal left. If Biden had been Governor of Delaware for thirty years the right wing media could claim that he turned Delaware into an urban mess and most of the country would not know any better.
July 16, 2020 2:53 pm at 2:53 pm #1882875n0mesorahParticipantDear Moshe,
“Most of all, as long as president is an incumbent, it impossible for anyone in his party to successfully challenge him for the nomination.”
LBJ was the incumbent in 1968 and was successfully challenged by RFK and others. After narrowly winning the New Hampshire primary, he dropped out of the race.July 16, 2020 2:53 pm at 2:53 pm #1882874n0mesorahParticipantDear Circle,

I thought that too. (Not that it would flip, but help Trump.) Now I am not so sure. Biden has always been considered a good debater. His problem is, he wanders off the script. At this point, the pandemic is the central issue. Anywhere he wanders in the entire topic, is rough terrain for the President. I think it will be much more boring than the 2016 debates. Trump and Sanders would have been fireworks. Maybe The Yeshiva World could host that debate just for the sake of making debates great again!July 16, 2020 8:45 pm at 8:45 pm #1883042Ex-CTLawyerParticipantBy and far most Americans are NOT conservatives. Don’t be fooled by the religious Jews and Evangelicals. The average American wants government social programs, Medicare, Social Security, equal rights, etc.
Trump is NOT nor has ever been a Conservative. He is a charlatan who lies to the Conservatives to get their votes and enrich his family and friends while destroying America.
A pox on the house of Trump.July 16, 2020 8:48 pm at 8:48 pm #18830551ParticipantThe Lincoln Project are mostly establishment RINO types who have little say in today’s political environment. GOP needed someone like trump to reach out to the heartland and who could withstand attacks. Romney in 2012 was the centrist chance and he was too nice to win and could not reach the working class.
July 16, 2020 10:47 pm at 10:47 pm #1883067n0mesorahParticipantDear Ctl,
I agree with you on Trump. But I do not think the average American wants social programs etc. They just want to make it work. When politicians start cheering for themselves that they passed some program that most of them would not guarantee would work, and then the other party campaigns against it without proving that it will not work, and then cheer themselves on as they repackage the original bill into their own packaging, and back and forth, with the more useful parts of the bill being scuttled to special interest groups, and nobody being sure who the losers and who the winners are, the average American feels more worn out than my run on sentence.Americans just want clear and simple outlines of what the future holds, so they can plan accordingly. A main reason that needy Americans leave public assistance is because they do not find stability in it. Which leaves it wide open for the career aid recipient. The one thing Americans are fed up with, is the constant trade off of services, equal rights, programs, and taxes, with no clear progress.
July 16, 2020 10:48 pm at 10:48 pm #1883069n0mesorahParticipantDear One,
You are wrong. The Lincoln Project has Republicans who ran the party in their state. What about Lindsay Graham or Rand Paul? More important, what about the fact that Trump walked out on the party? He was even a Democrat for eight years. And the GOP heartland controls about as many electoral votes as California alone. The Republicans need a real Conservative who has a clean background and is not afraid to have smart people in the room.July 16, 2020 10:49 pm at 10:49 pm #1883071July 16, 2020 11:25 pm at 11:25 pm #1883087som1Participantct lawyer- “. PLEASE DOJuly 19, 2020 5:17 pm at 5:17 pm #1883692Ben LeviParticipantLets be clear why CT Lawyers taxes have increased.
Because Trump passed a Tax Bill that someone could only deduct a certain percentage of State Taxes from their Federal taxes.
He did this in order to lower taxes for the rest of Americans.
So taxes were raised on a small percentage of wealthy individuals and lowered on the rest of the USA.
And Libs are against it.
He has lost money by running for office and that is why he won’s show his taxes.
But somehow he is enriching himself through private office.
He supplied lethal weapons to the Ukraine, to aid them in their fight against Russia, something Obama refused to do.
Yet he is Russia’s stooge.
The Liberal Governor of New York forced nursing homes to accept sick patients during the height of COVID possibly killing up to 6000 individuals.
But Trump has “killed thousands”.
His daughter is a Jewish convert one of his closest advisors is an Orthodox Jew and happens to be his son-in-law.
But Trump is an anti-semite.
The Cities of New York, Chicago, Minneapolis are being turned into shooting gallery’s.
But Trump Does not care about “Black Lives”
And the Libs claims to be logical?

I did reply earlier, but is must be lost in Cyberspace, perhaps shot down by Trump’s Space Force…..#1 Forbes has no more access to Trump’s financial records than you or I do. You read an OPINION, not provable facts about his net worth
#2 Many people have seen tax increases, but many more have seen increases in state and local taxes during this administration. Not as much money is flowing to local and state government from the Feds and uit has to be made up from increased and new taxes.
#3 I never said we should not have travel restrictions because of the Corona Virus. We should have locked the country down tight in March and had national stay at home orders and REQUIRE face masks when out of your own home
His nonsense about 15 cases and it will be over soon, and it will be warm soon and it will go away is ridiculous. Same with the ineffective anti-malaria drug and ingesting bleach.
#4 Incompetents on the Federal payroll, Let’s start with Betsy DeVos (knows nothing about education), then Dr. Ben Carson, who may have been a brain surgeon, but is totally unqualified to run HUD, and it is a shambles. Then there’s Don Jr’s girfriend bringing in a 6 figure salary plus benefits. Lynne Patton, an event planner who planned Eric Trump;s wedding was made Director of Region II (NY and NJ) HUD. Mabe she can choose flowers and a band, but she is not able to run this agency.
The list goes on and on.
#5 Putin’s Puppet………..Trump is beholden to Russia and its Putin controlled Banks for the financing that kept his business alive when no one else except Deutschebank would loan him money. CTL daughter worked fro a Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, responsible for running/provisioning/staffing his 100M super Yacht. They spent a month in Turkey in summer 2015 with all the Russian big shots at a resort, Trump and flunkies were in and out, cutting deals and receiving instructions.
#6 I”YH, If the pandemic lifts and travel becomes safe, Mrs. CTL and I plan to spend January and February 2021 in our House in Herzyla Pituach, instead of our home in Florida. If Trump wins reeelction we might stay longer.July 19, 2020 8:59 pm at 8:59 pm #1883743Ex-CTLawyerParticipant@ Ben Levi
“He has lost money by running for office and that is why he won’s show his taxes.”
He refused to show his tax returns while running for office. They covered years he was not running, and could not have had a loss because he was running for office. He lied when he said he’d release the returns.
He lied when he said he could not release the returns because he was under an audit by the IRS. A taxpayer is never forbidden to release his/her filed returns because there is an ongoing audit.Have you ever been audited by the IRS?????????????
I have, both personally and for my business returns. I was not instructed by the IRS that I could not release or show my returns to anyone during the audit. In fact I released them to banks during the audit as I was applying for financing for a real estate development at the time. The bank that provides our rolling business line of credit requires I release to them my (and all partners’ in the CTL firm) tax returns every year. The CTL Law Firms is a partnership, not a corporation and we partners are personally liable for the loans. Last year, we borrowed a large amount to buy land and construct our first freestanding NY office.July 19, 2020 9:01 pm at 9:01 pm #1883780lowerourtuition11210Participantn0mesorah: Stop relying on polls.2016 proved polls aren’t accurate.
