    4 names of Moshe Rabbeinu:

yered,(avi)g’dor, chever, (avi)socho, yekusiel, (avi)zanoach, tovyah, shmayah, nesanel, moshe. see megilah 13a and begining of vayikra rabba. Another 2 questions: 1)There was a city in Eretz Yisrael called Dan. What are two other names of that city? 2)Who wrote sefer Mishlei?(it wasn’t shlomo)

longarekel- well, that was more than I expected 🙂

speaking of which, at the risk of being personal, do you wear one? (a longarekel, I mean) 🙂 just curious

    2) Unless I’m really missing something here, I don’t see how it could be anyone but Shlomo, as it says in the first passuk. If you mean who WROTE IT DOWN, then Chizkiyahu and his students, I believe.

writersoul: Correct it is a gemara in Bava Basra 15.

writersoul: No I don’t, out of respect for my father who does not wear one. However I believe it is proper to do so. See my post levush yehudi for further info. You are correct as sam points out. Another question: Why in nevi’im rishonim(and tehillim)is David’s name spelled without a yud, and in Nevi’im achronim and throughout Divrei Hayamim it is spelled with a yud? I have an answer but you might have a better one. Anyway, should make for interesting research 🙂

Rashi in Divrei HaYamim(2:15) because of his great honor. There is also an idea when a a yud is added it is a good thing if it is taken away it is a bad thing. By the nessim the yud was taken away,by Yehoshua it was added.

Thanks sam, but why do we only honor him in divrei hayamim? And why the letter yud? (agav, rashi in divrei hayamim is probably not rashi)

The yud is first letter of HaShem’s name and olam habah was created with it.

    BUMP!!!!! This thread needs revival!

Who was Chushai Ha’Arki and how did he prevent a tzaddik from doing a great sin?

Friend of Dovid Hamelech’s, Dovid was going to pretend to worship an idol so people wouldn’t question why Hashem was making bad things happen to good ppl… Chushai prevented him from doing it.

    What was Yirmiyahu’s wife’s name?

Wasn’t he not supposed to get married?

However, I think I heard somewhere that his wife was Chuldah. Kinda out of thin air.

What was the distinctive physical feature of all kings descended from Dovid Hamelech, used to help determine if they were worthy of being king?

The crown would fit. What was another name for Boaz? Why was Daniel thrown to the lions?

    Boaz was Ivtzan

    Boaz = Ivtzan

Daniel was thrown to the lions for disobeying Koresh (Daryavesh?)’s decree that for 30 days all must bow to him.

writesoul: That could be, I was thinking of Tzira.

Tzira? Please explain. Who was Nevuchadnetzar’s son, and what did he do? (Only one action of his is mentioned in tanach.)

“Ben Tzira” was written by Yirmiyahu’s son, I confirmed that “Tzira” was Yirmiyahu’s wife. (Okay, that wasn’t Tanach.)

    Wasn’t Nevuchadnetzar’s son Evil Merodoch?!

    #1159919

I think you meant Sira. It is not at all clear that Sira was Yirmiyahu’s wife. I don’t want to elaborate here. Do some more research and you’ll know why. You’re right about evil merodach. What did he do?

Please provide at least two examples in Navi/Kesuvim of people where the pasuk *explicitly* states that they lived longer than 120 years.

    The Wolf

Wolf: I know of Yehoyada and Iyov. Great riddle.(If there are others please post them.) Who in tanach is compared to a wolf? Do you know why?

    #1159923

Binyamin is compared to a wolf by Yaakov in the brachos in parshas Vayechi because he just like in a wolf he will attack in the morning and save his booty to divide in the evening. Same is with Binyamin, he had Shaul who killed out most of Amalek and then Mordechai much later who also killed out Amalek.

That is what I learned in 4th grade.

Good. Here’s one you didn’t learn in fourth grade: From which incident do we learn not to look at the face of a rasha?

Elisha tells Yehoram “If not for Yehoshafat’s being here i wouldn’t look or even glance at you.”

    You’re right, I learned it in 9th!!

Yemima and Ketzia. I see we need to raise the bar a bit. Which sefarim in tanach do not mention the four letter name of Hashem? (There is more than one sefer, and I mean the name Yud and then Hai etc.)

BTW about my question about the way to distinguish the kings of Yehuda, yes, longarekel, you’re right, but followup: where did the crown come from and how did it fit them and not other people?

Dovid captured it from a war with Moav. It had a rod across the bottom, and only descendants of Dovid who were destined to rule had a corresponding groove on their heads.

Why was Esther zoche to rule over 127 countries?

    bekitzur, correct!

And about the second part: what do you mean by the first question? The simple thing for the second one (if it’s indeed two separate things) is that she was a descendant of Sarah who lived 127 years, but that seems too simple…..

Where did Shaul hide when Shmuel announced to the people that he’d be king?

(Let your thoughts flow back to 6th grade…)

Medrash Rabba Esther,Rabbi Akiva asked his tamidim to keep them awake, why did Eshter ruled over 127 countries?,he answered : Hashem said Sara lived 127 years so too Esther who is a daughter of Sarah should rule over 127 countries.
