FWIW, I am very interested in a discussion of halacha vis-a-vis intellectual rights.

    – Downloading a video from Youtube – does the heter of taping a song from the radio exist or not?

    Thank you.

What heter of copying songs from the radio are you referring to? Whatever it is, it should apply to other copying as well.

As far as the “I wouldn’t have bought it anyways” that you are referring to, the reason that works according to some shittos is because then the producer is losing nothing. So therefore to answer your question, no you wouldn’t have to pay “what you feel it’s worth.”

Too harsh? That probably depends on the motivations of the poster you were referring to. If he intentionally ignored the psak of the gedolei haposkim, then he deserved to be rebuked. If he was unaware, then it was too harsh. I’m curious how you knew that some links were deleted. Was it posted and then removed, or do you have inside info? It seems hypocritical of that poster to want to debate the topic without links, yet provide links.

The second part of that post was also interesting.

    DaasYochid-

No hypocrisy – it was on a different thread.

ICOT: you are quite obviously among the most respectible and kind people to ever post on this site. I hate to imagine this site without someone like you to keep the balance and to consistently be the calm voice of reason. That said, the style of your rebuke was out of character even though the thrust was wholly justified. What you could have done differently was to give the rebuke gently as you have been wont to do and leave to tearing apart to the wolves (who are in no short supply here).

Tbe latter part of your message was no less than a public service. He needs to be reigned in publicly for the sake of those who dont know (including newcomers).

Ok. I guess the link to Hebrewbooks doesn’t count either.

Thank you for the very kind words.

    I accept your mussar/suggestion (which I solicited).

It’s true that “a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down” ?

    ?

    Guess I missed that one.
