We are a couple traveling to Europe and would like to hear if anyone knows of inexpensive an hotel or B&B in the Jewish area of Amsterdam?
We will also be traveling to Paris, so we are interested in finding out information for Paris also.
We are an adult married couple and will be traveling shortly.
Perhaps this thread may help other travelers in making plans when they would travel.
June 23, 2011 6:11 pm at 6:11 pm #781191zahavasdadParticipantThe jewish parts of paris are the Pletzel and Monmarte.
When I was there the main hascha was Beth Din D’Paris. There is a famous deli in the Pletzel called Goldenbergs (or Goldbergs) it is NOT Kosher. even though every other place around it is (Its old time Kosher Deli)
The jews of paris are mostly Sephardim from places you are not used to seeing jews from (Algeria, Tunisia and other parts of North Africa) but they are probably the nicest jews Ive ever met
June 23, 2011 6:40 pm at 6:40 pm #781192charliehallParticipantThere are over 200 kosher restaurants in Paris. Enjoy!
June 23, 2011 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm #781193TikkunHatzotMemberI can’t give you any advice on cheap places in Amsterdam, but I have to warn you that if you wear a kippah, you may be asking for trouble. Just wear a baseball cap & you should be fine. It may be the same with Paris.
June 23, 2011 8:04 pm at 8:04 pm #781194proudgrandpaMemberThanks for the posts…I understand the restaurant situation…ut I am having trouble with the HOTELS…
I reserved with the Chabad house for the Shaboss meals but now I need to find an inexpensive hotel nearby to make it work.
June 23, 2011 8:11 pm at 8:11 pm #781195zahavasdadParticipantAre you staying in Monmarte or near the Pletzel. There are many hotels in Monmarte. Monmarte is a big tourist area
June 23, 2011 8:41 pm at 8:41 pm #781196yichusdikParticipantLast time I was in Paris was 15 years ago. I stayed at a hotel called the Windsor Opera. 3 star, relatively near (within a 15 minute walk of the major Jewish area near the Rue de la Victoire shul and 4 blocks from the kosher restaurants around Rue Richer and a few smaller shuls. At the time it had key locks and a front desk to leave them at, rather than a card entry (good for shabbos) Not a Jewish owned hotel, but the proprietor was very nice. It is still around and has its own website. google it.
June 23, 2011 8:54 pm at 8:54 pm #781197enlightenedjewMemberTry hotels in the 9th and 4th arrondissments or districts. The 9th is also known as the Opera district and the 4th, the Marais.
The 9th has many kosher places around rue Richer, and has a few shuls right around there – the main, grand synagogue is on rue de la Victoire around 5-10 min walk.
The 4th’s kosher places center around rue des Rosiers.
My wife and I just came back from Paris a few weeks ago; we had a great time. We stayed right around the corner from rue Richer in the 9th on a street called rue Geoffroy Marie.
We did eat by chabad, but chabad is on the Champs Elysees, a 45 minute walk. Is that the chabad you’re referring to?
June 23, 2011 9:21 pm at 9:21 pm #781198ummMemberThere is a great hotel in the Jewish part of Amsterdam, 4/5 star, but it’s much cheaper because the Jewish part isn’t in the city center so it’s not as sought after. It’s called NH Musica, very nice staff, modern hotel. We loved it there. Across the street is a kosher pizza shop, (restaurant a little further) right behind is a grocery. Shul not far either. I really recommend it!
June 23, 2011 11:41 pm at 11:41 pm #781199proudgrandpaMemberThanks for everyone’s interest.
The difficulty at hand is Amsterdam. The shabos meals are at the chabad there.
I checked the nh musica it is approximately $200 a night. Any other ideas??! We do not mind less stars….
As to Paris, seems there are choices in many districts…

June 24, 2011 4:37 pm at 4:37 pm #781203ImanonovParticipantI know of a family in Amsterdam who take in lodgers and supply breakfast for a reasonable charge. They are situated in the Minervalaan, not far from the Hilton hotel. I don’t know how far that is from the Chabad house. I can get you their phone number but don’t think it would be safe to post on a public forum. If interested ask a Mod to pass on my e-mail address and contact me direct
June 26, 2011 3:59 am at 3:59 am #781204aries2756ParticipantOne thing I do know it gets very HOT in Paris in the summer and not every hotel has Air conditioning. In August, many, many places close for vacation. That includes kosher restaurants and shopping areas.
I usually google “Kosher….” whether it is Paris, Italy or wherever we are going and try to follow the suggestions they make or find something near where they suggest. Hatzlocha and have a wonderful trip.
June 26, 2011 1:43 pm at 1:43 pm #781205proudgrandpaMemberGut voch..

June 26, 2011 11:52 pm at 11:52 pm #781206ImanonovParticipantMod, can you please pass on my e-mail address to? Thank you.
Nope. I are sorry, but we cannot do that.
June 27, 2011 1:50 am at 1:50 am #781207proudgrandpaMemberThat’s great..I guess this is being done for our own protection……however what do we do now? how can we figure it out? I certainly would like to stay at a jewish house rather then some strange house…
June 27, 2011 1:16 pm at 1:16 pm #781208boohParticipantyou can look for hotels near the Rai exhibition hall in Amsterdam, from there you are also well situated close to Kosher shops and restaurants and near the shuls.
you can check this link for a lot of usefull info.

enjoy and welcome
June 27, 2011 9:57 pm at 9:57 pm #781209proudgrandpaMemberThis wesite was a little helpful…thank you…though most of the listed hotels do not have websites nor are they on any of the hotel booking sites.
Is there any way I can get the phone number or email address of the family that hosts visitors?
June 27, 2011 11:35 pm at 11:35 pm #781210ImanonovParticipantI saw another name of a family on the link “booh” posted. They are a lovely family and their phone number is provided. They are located in the centre of town. Once again, I don’t know where your Chabad house is situated, so I can’t advise you which family is located more conveniently. The family I’m thinking of is not listed.
June 28, 2011 2:00 pm at 2:00 pm #781211boohParticipanttheir is also a wounderfull family in the city centre and you also have Chabad there, only thing is that you than are far away from the “main” area but Amsterdam commmunity is not big.
If you prefer to stay in the south of Amsterdam (buitenveldert area) than you can look for Novotel or Holiday Inn hotel at the Europaboulevard in Amsterdam.
