When you layer chumrah on chumrah, at some point you discourage those who want to comply with the spirit of tzinus, (and ultimately for many other mitzvos) from making the effort since it seems so difficult or hopeless from their initial perspective. Yes, being compliant with mitzvos was not meant to be “easy” but nor was it brought down by chazal that we should use every opportunity to make it more difficult than otherwise necessary.

Gadolhadorah: Exactly, but it’s not about easy or hard. It’s about doing the right thing with the right intentions. We often lack the latter.

To LU and lightbrite: If (i) you don’t know about impressment, (ii) you live in America, and (iii) you are over the age of 14, then there is something missing from your education. The War of 1812 was fought in part over the impressment of US citizens by the British Navy.

LB- I don’t think we can tell much from this photo. First of all, we don’t have a clear view of the person. Second of all, that wouldn’t be enough, because we would have to be able to see how they look in their surroundings, since the issue is about whether or not they stand out. I don’t know if that’s something that one can see in any photo, but we certainly can’t see it here.
I’m also surprised by your comment. I had no idea what a bubble umbrella looked like before, but you did, and you thought they were untznius. If you already knew what they looked like, what did you gain from seeing this photo, and how did it make you change your mind?
Disclaimer: I am not trying to imply that they are untznius. I have no idea, since I have never seen one in real life (although my guess is that they are fine). I am just wondering why you are so sure that this photo is a proof that they are.

The way they look in their surroundings is blurry too.
and you would have to see them around other people and see if they stand out in the crowd. I don’t think there’s any way to see that in a picture.

Could be a gorilla with a clear trash bag over his head.
Would that be tznius?
I wouldn’t call him a gorilla per se, although he could certainly use a shave and haircut.
