    what exactly does a troll thread mean? (my guess is something that is just trying to start up controversy – is that correct?) and where did the term come from? does it have anything to do with Harry Potter?

    it comes from the expression “trolling” for fish.

    where one lets a line remain in the water while one sits back and relaxes as the boat moves through the water just waiting for fish to latch onto the bait.

    the analogy is self evident
