Ladies, it’s time for me to buy a new Sheitel and the choices are endless.
I need help!
I’m ready to spend whatever it takes to get a real good custom Sheitel.
Any suggestions, opinions, preferences?
Thanks!
November 22, 2010 1:16 pm at 1:16 pm #823236HelpfulMemberDont waste money and get an ostenacious custom shaitel.
Buy a Paula Young shaitel.
November 22, 2010 3:25 pm at 3:25 pm #823237noitallmrParticipantMy wife owns a Number One and a Gold Custom which are both internationally known for their quality and pretty cheap in price. My wife did extensive research before coming up with these 2. Apparently the Number One is one of the hottest selling makes around.
If you need a contact how to get hold of an agent selling Number One’s then maybe Theyeshivaworld can arrange the info getting transferred from me to you…
November 22, 2010 3:57 pm at 3:57 pm #823238whatrutalkingabtMemberIf youre looking for quality get a Shevy. Its undisputed that they have the best shaitels out there. But youll have to pay for it…

Whatever you are willing to spend is not what’s important. Make sure your husband to be likes whatever style you will buy because he is likely paying for it, and even if he isn’t, he will have to look at you wearing it every day so make sure he likes it.
November 22, 2010 5:15 pm at 5:15 pm #823240Fast ForwardMemberI have two Kikis that I am very happy with. Also, Helpful, I did order a Paula Young sheitel to wear in bad weather under a hat. I have to say it was pretty bad, so I would not recommend that route.
November 22, 2010 5:42 pm at 5:42 pm #823241bptParticipantBefore you choose a shaitel, you need to determine the “look” you want to achieve:
the “Frumpy” (fro the Kensington look)
the “Sister-in-law” (for the cutting edge Lakewood look)
the “Here comes trouble” (for the BP tuna baguette look)
the “No-nonsense” (for the 5th Grade BY teacher look)
the “Madricha” (for the Seminary boss look)
the “Zsa Zsa Gabor” (for the Hungarian babby look)
the “Ar’tiss’ten” (for the well-to-do Willy look).
Its no longer as simple as it once was, Cookie. So choose carefully!
November 22, 2010 5:54 pm at 5:54 pm #823242smartcookieMemberThank you everybody so far.
Noitall- is “Number One” the company name?”
WIY- thanks for your advice! As a btw, it’s my 6th sheitel that I’m purchasing BH and I will make sure my husband of many years baruch hashem will like it!
FW- what price range were your kikis in?
I did hear many people happy with kiki and many people unhappy so I can’t decide.
Shevy sounds right but I was wondering if anything else is better. Sometimes I see people with fantastic sheitels and they paid between one and teo thousand. Shevys are more than that.
November 22, 2010 5:57 pm at 5:57 pm #823243smartcookieMemberAnybody ever heard of Riki? Something new on the market.
November 22, 2010 6:07 pm at 6:07 pm #823244blinkyParticipantI heard the Tori and Shuly wigs are good, though can’t say for sure as i don’t have one yet:)
November 22, 2010 6:09 pm at 6:09 pm #823245not IMemberKiki’s are good as well as Shevy’s. They say that Shevy’s bald but they are nicer smoother hair.
Kiki’s do what they are told while Shevy’s are more lively adn natural looking..

ROTFLMKO
November 22, 2010 6:20 pm at 6:20 pm #823247Fast ForwardMemberSmart, I got the first Kiki a year ago on sale for $1,000 and the hair is still great on that one. I just bought the second for $1150. BTW, I bought my daughter a Shevy fall when she was engaged and it really did not last that long. It thinned out and the bottom of the hair tended to tangle. She added hair to it, but really did not make much of a difference.
November 22, 2010 7:24 pm at 7:24 pm #823248bptParticipantI figured someone would find it funny. Glad it was you, WIY. Enjoy the laughs, cause when you’re the one footing the $1500 bill, it ain’t no laughing matter 🙁
November 22, 2010 8:24 pm at 8:24 pm #823249whatrutalkingabtMembersmartcookie-
Im sure there are people who got good wigs and paid btwn 1-2 thousand but they probly got lucky. If you want to be safe go with a shevy from shevy themselves- but it mite cost 3 grand
November 22, 2010 8:42 pm at 8:42 pm #823251BEST IMAParticipantBP Totty great advice!!!
smartcookie: The most important thing about buying a custom to me is to buy it from someone that stands behind their products. Unfortunately there arent very many places like that nowadays. If youre spending a mini fortune on something you want to be happy with it. I finally purchased one from Fortune Wigs on Coney and i am so happy. She wants you to walk out of there and be happy with what you buy. She was also such a mentch to deal with. Hatzlocha whatever you end up with!
November 22, 2010 9:09 pm at 9:09 pm #823252noitallmrParticipantNoitall- is “Number One” the company name?”
No- the model name.
November 22, 2010 9:12 pm at 9:12 pm #823253smartcookieMemberBP Totty- LOL!! Prob is that I don’t fit any of those categories 🙂
FW- funny because 1000 is cheap for a kiki. They usually run between 1500-2000.
November 22, 2010 9:28 pm at 9:28 pm #823254Fast ForwardMemberSmart, I know I got a good deal on the Kiki. Well, it was on sale and it was a precut. Maybe having it as a precut makes it more affordable. Yet, it was the style that I like and the length was perfect. If you are in the Brooklyn area, check out the Torah Times; a lot of sheitel places are having sales.
November 22, 2010 9:30 pm at 9:30 pm #823255tzippiMemberMen, I’m sure you can find some fine cheap black hats in department or discount stores. Start a trend!
Smartcookie, you may want to find another place to get the info you need.
(For the record, I have bought cheap wigs, beauty supply, Especially Yours [a division of Paula Young that has my color], etc. but I do understand the difference.)
November 22, 2010 9:38 pm at 9:38 pm #823256YW Moderator-80MemberMen, I’m sure you can find some fine cheap black hats in department or discount stores.
no
not unless you want a brim 1-2″ wide, a logo, feather, non-felt material, and other numerous non-desired features
November 22, 2010 9:50 pm at 9:50 pm #823257bptParticipant“feather”
Ooh, did you get me where it hurts.Mod-80. Not only did my bar-mitzvah hat have the feather, it had a braided band too boot. And was a stetson.

November 22, 2010 10:14 pm at 10:14 pm #823258jakywebMemberWhat is the company name of number one and custom gold? How much are they?
November 22, 2010 10:14 pm at 10:14 pm #823259oomisParticipantPaula YOung – are you serious??????? You may as well set fire to your $100 bills.
November 23, 2010 1:22 am at 1:22 am #823260sms007Memberi bought my best wig from Fortune wigs and I wouldn’t go any other way! i can’t even look at my others now! (and i bought it on sale too- supppeeerr cheap – $400.00)
November 23, 2010 2:11 am at 2:11 am #823261smartcookieMemberAnyone own a BH wig? They have a big sale now but I need to know if it pays.
November 23, 2010 3:04 am at 3:04 am #823262eclipseMemberBPT:
not all kensington ple enjoy looking shlumpy.i don’t live there anymore, but a few of my friends and i invested in ONE PRECIOUS shevy(preserved with love!) because looking like you have a bird’s nest on your head is a chilul hashem.even when i had to tolerate 100% synthetic or 50/50 wigs i washed them regularly, brushed them daily, changed the style once in a while…what if someone said that all guys from your area didn’t wear deoderant…never generalize, sir.otherwise your descriptions were perfect.ha ha ha-that was a joke,of course.
November 23, 2010 3:11 am at 3:11 am #823263Dave HirschParticipantMy wife says she tried all of the common American wigs but wasn’t satisfied. She recently got a wig from Israel (upon recommendation of a friend) and is elated. I thinks it’s called Miri Kapelovitch (or something like that). They claim that it is the top brand in Israel. My wife had a friend bring it in from Israel.
November 23, 2010 3:48 am at 3:48 am #823264BEST IMAParticipantI have a BH wig and i love it. I got one for my daughter too its stunning. The hair is gorgeous and her prices are really amazing.

November 23, 2010 1:30 pm at 1:30 pm #823266noitallmrParticipantRe: jakyweb & smartcookie-
The company name is First Lady.
If you need any contact info how to get hold of someone selling First Lady you can contact me thru yeshivaworld…
November 23, 2010 6:14 pm at 6:14 pm #823267bptParticipantEclipse –
You are right about Kensington moving into the 21st century. Many of our friends live there, and some of them beat us to a pulp, it terms of snazziness. As a general rule, over 50, you’re as shlump as they come. Under 30, you could be plopped onto K and 27th and look like you live there.
And poster, after 20+years of hearing about shevys, chevys, kikis, twinkies, ect I’ve seen and been thru most of these t’kufos with my own Mrs. The zha zha is still a few decades away, but its coming…. (right along with the velvet lapels for my grey herringbone coat. And blue/gold scarf)
Some things just need to be that way
November 23, 2010 6:17 pm at 6:17 pm #823268bptParticipantAnd just to show hakoras hatov to YWN for hosting the CR, MC collection (who is an advertiser on YWN) should also be mentioned as a choice. They are in the $750 range, and will give you 3-5 years of decent wear (at least, that’s our experience)
November 23, 2010 8:14 pm at 8:14 pm #823269smartcookieMemberThank you all for your suggestions and advice! You’re really being helpful.
