Can anyone recommend a brand name, or place to purchase white shirts that stay crisp via machine wash and dry?
I buy shirts which are suppose to be no-iron – permanent press, etc., at Macy’s or Marshalls, but after a few washes, the collars get curly, and the shirt looks shabby. Everyone on Shabbos has nice, crisp, clean collars and shirts.
I guess if it’s necessary to use a dry cleaners weekly, I will have to take that on.
Thank you very much for any suggestions or comments or recommendations.

July 9, 2012 3:11 pm at 3:11 pm #883555RABBAIMParticipantSilbigers (btwn 17 and 18 ave on 51 st in Bklyn) has them.
July 9, 2012 3:14 pm at 3:14 pm #883556yungerman1ParticipantThe best non-iron shirts imho are Brooks Brothers. Unfrotunately, they are quite expensive. Jos. A. Bank has non-iron, as do several others.
Like with most things, you get what you pay for.
July 9, 2012 3:14 pm at 3:14 pm #883557BTGuyParticipantJust checking to see if this shirt thread came outfitted with cement shoes. It’s sinking faster in the Coffee Room listings than a cinder block tied to a cinder block. Still trying to avoid adding dry cleaners to my list of things to do.
July 9, 2012 4:05 pm at 4:05 pm #883558I can only tryMemberI wash them with regular laundry detergent, then hang them to dry. They come out almost completely wrinkle-free.
Since they are Shabbos shirts, they get less wear-and-tear than regular shirts, because I generally only wear them on Shabbos, yom tov, to simchos, and in a pinch.

They have to be handled very carefully, remove from wash machine immediately, put in dryer 5 minutes, hang right away carefully.
So the choice is yours- spend a lot of time & money on the shirts, or spend money on the cleaners weekly. On the other hand there’s something about the look of an immaculately pressed white shirt that just says something, no? (Hopefully you think it says something positive, which is what i meant. Not trying to raise the ire of the anti-white shirt brigade!)

Back at you soldier.
You may be at ease now. lol
July 9, 2012 4:27 pm at 4:27 pm #883561borninthebronxParticipantI use Lands End no-iron white dress shirts, and am quite satisfied. If you’re not, you can return them for full refund. From time to time they have specials, especially around year-end.
July 9, 2012 4:32 pm at 4:32 pm #883562sam4321ParticipantEagle shirts are great, no wrinkles out of the dryer ,very good shirts.
July 9, 2012 4:35 pm at 4:35 pm #883563TheGoqParticipantChoppy dont be a shirt racist.
July 9, 2012 4:55 pm at 4:55 pm #883564Song of BlessingParticipantTry hanging it right out of the washing machine – dryers can ruin some shirts… and other shirts actually do well in dryers but you just gotta hang it straight from the machine while its hot if you want to preserve the shape.
I found for my boys the thicker material shirts last way longer and stay much nicer (like 100% cotton ones).. but don’t put them in the dryer….

July 9, 2012 5:49 pm at 5:49 pm #883567BTGuyParticipantThank you so very much! All the suggestions covered all areas from high end to affordable and how to preserve the shirts longer from the machine only or the dryer, too. Thank you very much!
I see some of my threads were way out of order. When I posted the “this thread is sinking…etc,” there was not one other comment for what seemed like a few hours..lol. I apologize for that.
Again, thank you very much! And to Choppy; I wear my white shirts proudly, because for some reason I am at my Jewish best (if that makes sense), when I wear at white shirt. : )
July 9, 2012 5:56 pm at 5:56 pm #883568☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantI second ICOT on the Concords. They are available at The Hat Box.
July 9, 2012 6:08 pm at 6:08 pm #883569uneeqParticipantI agree with daniboy. Charles Tyrwhitt. I also have Brooks Brother but they don’t hold up to time and washing. Also the Charles Tyrwhitt stay much whiter.
July 9, 2012 6:24 pm at 6:24 pm #883570choppyParticipantHow much do the white shirts you posters are recommending, cost?
July 9, 2012 6:32 pm at 6:32 pm #883571uneeqParticipantChoppy: It only matters how much they cost on sale. ‘Cause thats the only time any of us would buy. Charles Tyrwhitt’s go for $40 on sale.
July 9, 2012 6:35 pm at 6:35 pm #883572☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantJuly 9, 2012 7:23 pm at 7:23 pm #883573choppyParticipantSo in other words, a shirt being more expensive does not necessarily make it any better than a less expensive shirt. You can get great shirts that cost less than the “brand names”.

I buy shirts which are suppose to be no-iron – permanent press, etc.
That’s your problem. In order for a shirt to remain crisp it needs to have stiff fibers, permanent press garments are designed not to take creases by using softer fibers.
July 9, 2012 10:14 pm at 10:14 pm #883575ToiParticipantbrooks brothers are notorious for ripping on the sleeves and underarm. Charles tyrwitt are hands down the best. on a good sale you can get them for 30-40 down from 160.
