February 6, 2019 10:27 pm at 10:27 pm #1675733Fake Yeshiva BachurParticipant
Should yeshivos allow bachurim to wear non- white shirts? Although it obviously doesn’t define a yeshivah bachur, It is considered to be the normal dress for a Ben Torah in today’s times. Or maybe yeshivos shouldn’t get involved, and devote their time to more important things?
February 6, 2019 11:25 pm at 11:25 pm #1675744👑RebYidd23ParticipantIf it wants to be a white shirt yeshiva, it should require white shirts. There is nothing wrong with colored shirts, but they want everyone to wear the same thing.
February 6, 2019 11:26 pm at 11:26 pm #1675736JosephParticipantAre colored shirts okay for Shabbos? Why not?
Are shorts okay instead of full length pants? Why not?
Are white sneakers okay instead of black shoes?
February 6, 2019 11:33 pm at 11:33 pm #1675754👑RebYidd23ParticipantJoseph, that is a good point. Some make sure never to wear white during the week to keep it special for Shabbos. Shorts are not acceptable because they are immodest. White sneakers are not acceptable because they get dirty.
February 7, 2019 12:26 pm at 12:26 pm #1675901GadolhadorahParticipantDon’t enroll is a yeshiva if you don’t want to follow the rules, whether its white shirts, mandatory attendance at a Vasikim minyan, prohibition on Thursday night chulent or no smoking even outside the beis medrash or the dorms. You are a party to a “contract” of sorts….they commit to provide you with chinuch and you agree to follow THEIR rules.
February 7, 2019 12:26 pm at 12:26 pm #1675916Yserbius123ParticipantYes. As an 8th grade Rebbi in the school I went to once said “Black shoes must be black like a RACIST_EXPLETIVE_DELETED with a closed mouth”
February 7, 2019 12:26 pm at 12:26 pm #1675920Dr. NatParticipantYeshivos can do whatever they want, even if you don’t agree with or don’t understand their reasons. You are free not to go to a particular yeshiva and rather to go to a yeshiva that allows you to wear what you want. Or you can open your own yeshiva. It is a free county both ways.
February 7, 2019 10:58 pm at 10:58 pm #1676240Yabia OmerParticipantAshkenazic mentality
February 7, 2019 11:39 pm at 11:39 pm #1676249Not commentingParticipantYabia Omer this has nothing to do with ashkenaz or Sephardic the reason a dress code of a yeshiva bachur or any Ben Torah for that matter in our days is due to simplicity and nothin more then that it is accepted world wide that a Yeshiva dress code is a regular simple dress code once you get into color “it’s not so simple anymore” this is coming from a Sephardic Baal tshuva of 22 years
February 7, 2019 11:51 pm at 11:51 pm #1676261Not commentingParticipantAlso also just for the record Maran also wore white shirts and so did Hacham Ben-Sion Abba Shaul and so did Rav Moshe Levi and Rav Shalom Cohen and many more Sepharadi Rabbis of our generation
February 13, 2019 6:08 pm at 6:08 pm #1679387avocadoParticipantIt’s like in Mitzrayim when Klal Yisroel didn’t change their levush. Same idea.
February 13, 2019 6:47 pm at 6:47 pm #1679407funnyboneParticipantOP: my opinion is that yeshivos should allow it. They should recommend whote shirts and explain that its the uniform of a yeshiva bochur. Bochurim should make the choice.
February 13, 2019 7:35 pm at 7:35 pm #1679414JosephParticipantfunnybone: You’re affiliated with Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim?

For an Orthodox Jew purim costume? Yes, I would say they are. It just makes it much more convincing.February 14, 2019 5:42 pm at 5:42 pm #1679900lowerourtuition11210ParticipantI have heard that R’ Moshe Sherer Tzatzal always wore white shirts based on the passuk in koheles (9:8)

February 15, 2019 1:25 am at 1:25 am #1680098👑RebYidd23ParticipantI don’t understand why you would think Joseph is Modern Orthodox.
February 17, 2019 2:34 pm at 2:34 pm #1680859funnyboneParticipantSMS: can you provide a source to prove that I am a funny clown?
Can you provide a picture to show that Joseph is MO?
Is a pink shirt lo silbash for a man?
Hello to you too.
It gets updated when approved by mods.
What’s up with comment about Reb Yid?
Hmmm…maybe this post proves that I am a funny clown…lolFebruary 18, 2019 1:10 pm at 1:10 pm #1681360BneiBarakObamaParticipantYeshivos need to be run like a business. There is a demand for yeshivos that demand only whit shirts, and there is also a demand for yeshivos that allow colored shirts to be worn.
February 18, 2019 1:10 pm at 1:10 pm #1681364tgsmParticipantFree world, free country, white shirt, pink shirt or no shirt at all we are all still Jewish & let us all be thankful about that.
February 18, 2019 9:06 pm at 9:06 pm #1681588funnyboneParticipanttgsm: a yeshiva is a private enterprise and can create rules.
Did anyone ask if wearing a colored shirt negates their religion? Or if we shouldn’t be thankful for being Jewish if we wear pink shirts?February 19, 2019 12:47 pm at 12:47 pm #1681969apushatayidParticipant“It’s like in Mitzrayim when Klal Yisroel didn’t change their levush.”
What color robes did they wear in mitrayim, I must update my wardrobe asap.
February 19, 2019 1:02 pm at 1:02 pm #1681977apushatayidParticipant“Are colored shirts okay for Shabbos?” Is there an inyan to specifically wear white on shabbos? If there is, then that would answer why not.
“Are shorts okay instead of full length pants?” I wouldnt swim in full length pants.
“Are white sneakers okay instead of black shoes?” If I was playing basketball I would wear white sneakers over any color shoes, every time.
Everything has its proper time, and place.
February 19, 2019 9:22 pm at 9:22 pm #1682576YosefSebrowParticipantThe mishna in Maseches Megilla (perek 4) says that someone who only wants to daven in white shirts is suspected of heresy.
February 19, 2019 9:24 pm at 9:24 pm #1682578YosefSebrowParticipantThe Gemara in maseches shabbos (119b) says that Rav Anan used to wear black shirts on Friday to show the contrast between Friday and Shabbos (As per the mesilas yesharim’s understanding of the gemara)
February 19, 2019 9:24 pm at 9:24 pm #1682579YosefSebrowParticipantYosef hatzaddik was the ben zekunim and was rewarded with a colored tunic.

It doesn’t say shirts. Maybe it’s talking about pants.
February 19, 2019 9:44 pm at 9:44 pm #1682591YosefSebrowParticipantShirts are also begadim, and when it comes to heresy you can’t make up your own kulos.
February 19, 2019 9:44 pm at 9:44 pm #1682590☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYosef hatzaddik was the ben zekunim and was rewarded with a colored tunic.
What color is your tunic?

So I suppose your tallis is pink.

So is hair gel also mandatory?February 19, 2019 10:45 pm at 10:45 pm #1682599YosefSebrowParticipantPink tallis is beged isha, They’re also twice the price of a standard tallis. So feminists who buy them are truly paying a pink tax.
Yaakov got all the spotted and striped sheep, Lavan got all the white wool sheep. Clearly Yaakov wore colored shirts.
February 19, 2019 10:47 pm at 10:47 pm #1682611☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantTallis can’t be beged isha
February 19, 2019 10:55 pm at 10:55 pm #1682614☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYaakov obviously wore white shirts. It says ויצא יעקב.
Tell me, do you think Yaakov would go out in a colored shirt???
February 19, 2019 10:55 pm at 10:55 pm #1682615☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAnd he obviously wore Charles Tyrwhitt, like any good yeshiva bochur, and they’re not made of wool.
