    ” a buick parave “

Mod 80: Well then I hope that you aren’t munching cheese knishes or corn beef sandwiches in it – you would get the poor car all confused. Besides, I don’t think toiveling would be good for the transmission or the upholstery.

BP Totty- shame on you, in the general schmooze thread all you talk about is cars cars cars, and finally there is a thread about cars and you act all huffy:)

My last car was a 1951 MG. Now that was a car.

I’d still have it if not for those <foul word> emissions laws.

2006 Mercury Montego. I have seven payments left and plan to drive it until the wheels fall off and the transmission hits the pavement.

OK, you have a point, sort of. The diff?

When I talk cars, its a “wish-I-had” kinda talk. Here, its “I’ve-got-one-and-you-dont”

There’s a huge difference. But for you, Blinky.. we make an exception.

You’re ENTITLED to the horse-drawn carraige, being the Bas Melech you are!

And we are lucky to be allowed to toss rose petals, to carpet the ride (see? I can roll out the nice things when necessary!)

How do you like the Mercury Montego, CantEsq (that is the official DMV abbreviation for CantorEsq.)

BPT- I don’t see any cars in this thread that are worth a second thought, even the ones mentioned as jokes. The fancy cars of today are just scaled down versions of private jets for the road. There’s no craftmanship to admire, no efficiency to speak of, no willingness to sacrifice some comfort in exchange for high performance. A fast car just has a bigger and fatter engine – what’s the kuntz to get speed out of a 45.6L V64? A “sport” car just has gyroscopes to handle curves while compensating for the imprecise center of gravity – what’s the kuntz to having a computer fix your mistakes? You don’t even feel the road, what with all the super-duper shock absorbers. I’ve test driven quite a few of these, once my car became street illegal, but hated them all.

Like I said, it’s just a road version of the private jet. All show, but nothing admirable. It won’t be long before they start installing jet engines in these cars as the final move of one-up-manship.

Now my MG, that was a car. With a 1 liter engine, but an engine that outperformed. There was a sacrifice in comfort to get the low center of gravity, in the tube-like cockpit, but you were actually driving the car, not computers. That’s the sport of it- getting what you can with as little as you can get away with. Compare it to another sport- would you respect the NBA player who gets computerized joints that auto-correct his jump shots over the natural athletes? Would you respect the baseball player with a spring-loaded bat over the (non-steroid using version of) homerun king?

    Squeak –

The thing that irked me was that this thread was not about, “I’m looking for a new car.. what does anyone suggest”; it was more a ranking system.

I’ve noted before, I have a leased minivan. Ho Hum. But to the person that is chalishing for a leased mv, my van is a touchy subject if I rub it into his (or her) face. True, I don’t try to hide it (I mean, where would you hide a 10 ft long van anyways?) but that still no reason for me to flaunt it.

And while I think (hope?) the folks that said they have the XYZ super-charged turbo, with Coach leather seats were pulling our collective legs, some of the posters were really serious.

Its just not who the CR usually is. (sorry if I sounded grumpy)

And Poppa, if you spot me on OP, I’d LOVE a ride in the Mase!

I guess it depends what you’re looking for in a car. I don’t drive for sport, although I love zipping around town with the top down and the sun on my face. I’m happy with smooth acceleration and tight cornering and I’m glad Hashem has given us engineering insights that allow us to innovate. If you want authentic transportation, ride a camel.

Gladly. But it is disguised as a ’98 Civic. I paid Maserati price because I wanted to have an 8 cow car.

BPT- it’s not like we know each others. Since we are all anonymous, there is no problem with jealousy between us, and therefore we can “flaunt”.

Is that so? Can we also make fun of each other? How about if one of us would insult another for being single or divorced or a BT or ugly, or NP?

Poppa- hey, insulting is very different than flaunting.

(Besides that I wouldn’t accept insults on an anonymous forum since I might be faking my whole identity.)

Popa- even with a true identity, the posters here don’t really know each others so I wouldn’t take insults to heart.

You can’t know the whole person from some of their posts, so insults aren’t always on target.

You think so? I’m betting I’m right.

Lets try it on someone. Who should we insult?

Well, it needs to be someone who has told us about themselves.

Or someone we can research because he told us who he is.

“I paid Maserati price because I wanted to have an 8 cow car. “

    Poppa – THAT was hilarious!

OK, I’ve been banished to my corner, as I don’t have a funnier comeback.

    Blinky, I hope you’re enjoying this ;(

Cookie – we sort of do “know each other” We may not recognize one another while standing on line at the bank, but we do have an on-line personality, and showing off is not a hallmark of the CR (except for showing off your smarts). But I’m backing off, becuase I took it a bit too serious, and Poppa put it in perspective (Great line, poppa!)

Its me – Now we’re talkin’! I have a front fork suspension / hardtail MTB and an old 10-speed (still can’t make up my mind which i like better, but thats a whole ‘nother thread. Please start one, if your an addict like me!)

JG – honda oddessey 2011 – Now your’re talkin’! But that’s not showing off.. thats a mitzvah to be me’farsem!

wolf i know how much you hate nitpicking, but still, knowing your mathematical prowess, isnt the convention usually to have point B between point A and point C.

(no smiley needed here i assume)

I happen to not have a new suit, and to not be heavy.

But suppose I did, and was self conscious about my weight and the way the suit made me look. Maybe I’ve already gotten a comment about it. I could see there being an insult.

Feel free to use me as your test subject.

You can make fun of how old fashioned I am, and how stupid you think I am for admiring sporty machines that can be used by people over fat, lazy machines that can only be used by cyborgs (or computer assisted humans). Obviously, not a single person here sees my side of it.

Or get more personal, if you want. I’m here to make you happy.

Popa- the point here isn’t insulting. You should never insult, whether the receiver will be offended or not.

But flaunting here definitely won’t do any harm to anyone.
