What is with this? I know that Blue Moon for example suggests adding a wedge of orange to enhance the flavor of the beer, but what would prompt an otherwise sensible yeshiva boy to add a date to his beer?

No, you have it all wrong. The “date” they are talking about is the “best by” date, which is indicative of a true beer maven!

this thread is not about going on a date
it is about putting a date, a tamar, you know like dates and figs, into ones beer. that is drinking a beer with a particular fruit called a “date” floating in it

For the same reason we have umpteen threads about makeup, dates gone bad, shopping, ect.
Drinking is a topic we never tire of.
In this case, it really was a new topic. But to some of the CR membership, its “just another thread about beer”
Seems to me that adding a date can ruin an otherwise good beer, whereas adding a beer can enhance an otherwise bad date.
I thought it was about getting a date with a girl in your beer. That would be terrible as it would ruin the beer. And as DY said above “She would definitely not agree to see him again (and might charge him for dry cleaning). “
