cofee- i am with you. our generation is different than the one before. they were more tough and able to handle “tough love”. for us we need encouragement and that’s what we are here for. to motivate. we are trying to keep things under control, but we don’t always succeed. our bodies are hard to understand. we don’t just give up, we are trying. we are watching what we eat. i think that you are doing great and keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you have a dr. or diabetes educator who is good and also available and reachable, (as long as you test and actually bolus) you should be able to stay above water. he/she will make changes to your numbers as soon as they go haywire.

We used to have someone who was excellent, we called her our “angel”… hope we’ll find someone again soon and hopefully the rest of you too.

cofee- hope you feel good soon. i know that flavored meds do raise blood sugar, but with my expirience i don’t think that it will effect it that much. what will effect it is the fact that you are not going to do much moving around. so you might need to raise your basal a bit.

health- i would think that poor control of a patient also reflects the dr. who is managing the patient. if the person with D is logging their numbers shouldn’t the dr. be able to make the appropriate changes to get better control!!!!!

so all of you should be on top of the dr. to keep on making the correct changes.

medtronic just called me and told me that i can get a new pump!!!!

i am hopefully going to get it with a cgm. I AM SO EXCITED!! 🙂

princess- i asked the rep from medtronic about taking away the pump and he told me the insurance or pump company are not allowed to take away a pump. it must be coming from the dr. iguess to motivate you. hopefully you will get back back on track. don’t give up!!! 🙂

princess- i am happy to hear that they are giving you another chance. is it possible not to eat carbs after supper and if you are high by bed give yourself a correction and hopefully your numbers will be good throughout the night bringing down your a1c. if you are constantly high by bed maybe go up on your carb ratio. if you still wake up high maybe you need a higher basal throughout the night. don’t be afrad to make the changes in the pump youself. i have been diong this for all three of us since way back.

when you write your book dedicate it to all of those who know you as “princesseagle”.

don’t give up we are davening for you. we want you to stay pumped in the pump club.

silver- i have heard of a person with D who had a buddy with her all the time in camp and when anything that was related to D she was there to help. does your daughter know anybody else who is going to this camp?

i myself was a councelor of a D, but of an older age. you can call r. meisels to put you in contact with someone else.

csilver- welcome to this forum. we are glad to have you

i have a six year old daughter who has D, and because of it we are keeping her home.

i myself went to camp but was on shots.

your daughter can go swimming without the pump attached. if you are scared about it getting lost she can give it to her councelor.

    melissa goldstien at 212-505-6805

its for a company called medex. it will be done in manhattan. they will pay if you partake. they are mainly interested in people under the age of 21. i do know that they are also using people who are over 21.

i will be there with my two kids on this coming sunday from about 2:30 to 3;45. its only i think for this friday and sunday. if any of you are interested just give her call. thanks. i hope i was clear enough.

ok my post office is ready to send out “mail” to you all.

princess- i really try not to have bgs higher than 200 (which of course is impossible) my monthly average of insulin intake is about 49 units a day (including basal). i eat an average of about 250 carbs a day.

sweet- thanks about the cornflakes, and about the link about the glycemic index. i see that you take novolog. is there a big difference to humolog. i use humolog.

cofee- i am happy that you are also starting to wait after bolusing. i was wondering, lets say like a wedding when you don’t know what they are going to serve, should i wait till my food gets cold before i eat it so that the insulin gets a head start? lol

tralala- thank you for the welcome. wow that is a lot of years. keep on davening don’t give up. we are all in it together.

reb. thanks for welcoming (i think its called) the silver page

a question for all of you: i seem to be getting headaches, could it be from all the fake sweetners that are in the diet stuff?

i know that our hunger we have to satiate

and to regret it after because of the weight

a good thing that here we can vent away

and our true feelings we can openly say

for us that we deal with all this mayhem

all cause by the isles of langerhan

please do not give up any of you

because without you what would i do

look at Avraham who pasted 10 tests

and that’s what made him really the BEST!

sweet- i basically waited to eat when i knew what i was going to eat, and it really helped. only once over shabbos was i over 200

reb- sorry to hear. hopefully you wont have to wait too much longer

allgr8- i personally like the medtronic, but i keep it in a pocket which is easy access. i did keep the pump in a pocket for my daughter and cut a hole from the inside for the tubing to go through. someone once mentioned to my wife about sewing a pocket on the inside of clothing.

there is something called a pump band that i saw on pumpwear.com which is meant to cover the omni so it wont be so noticable.

whatever you choose will be great. Once you adjust to it you will love it!! :):)

i am going to welcome us to page 24 with a poem/song !!!!!

are your numbers high or are they very low

is the glycemia hyper or is it hypo

do you think you’re shaking, now going low

better pump the sugar in the form of gluco

    what do you say?

about the heat – i did read that heat whether hot weather or hot water makes one usually go low. the reason is because heat make insulin absorb better.

reb- we are still praying for you. when do you plan on popping the subject of D to him. (i need to know when i should over pray for you!! lol 🙂 )

princess – i was thinking about you and i thought of somthing that might help.

if you are eating things like white/rye bread, pasta, pastries, or anything that has a high glycemic index it could be that it’s making you bg harder to control (it does for me). try things like whole wheat or anything that has a lower glycemic index.

about eating – if you like vegetables you can eat that instead of carbs. also chewing gum helps keep the mouth busy.

i am proud of your effort.

cofeefan- i did not eat before putting my head down. and i was near 200.

    today i didn’t eat till 2:00 till i got my number to 110 !!!!!

hope all the #s stay good for the rest of the day

    thanks for the compliment.

for me D is not so private, but i don’t go around publicizing it. there are people who read this who do know who i am, but it doesn’t bother me, as long as i can say something to help somebody.

reb- yes i did hear the stress raises the blood sugar

both animas and medtronic’s websites have ideas on how to conceal the punp and that it should be comfortable. also pumpwear.com has stuff.

sweet- guess what i bolused after davening and then put my head down for a nap (i have a chavrusah at 6:30am), and woke up FIFTY MINUTES LATER, and guess what i was in the 200’s till the afternoon which i ended up being in the 60’s !!!!!!!! 🙁

but i will try it again tomorrow.

    the graph is cute 🙂

reb- i praying for you (and everybody else) three times a day (sorry there was no mussuf today).

listen all of you “perfection is not achieved in one day, ITS THE DIRECTION THAT YOU ARE GOING”

you all are doing great just by the fact that you want to be in control.

thanks for the info that the minimed has an intergrated cgm system. i was on shots for 14 years and now on a pump for about 4 years. so hopefully i go with the upgrade.

about the weight – give it a few years and the designers will make a size 4 into a size zero!!! lol lol 🙂 🙂

cofeefan- great idea. that should make things easier for your decision allsgr8

allsgr8- keep in mind that if you’ll want to hide the pump in a place that is hard to get to, you’ll want to use one with a remote like the omni or the animas. the animas also has different colors for the insertion sites it makes it more fun. My kids have pink and blue

in reply to: Diabetes Support Group #980409

allsgr8- my kids are both on the animas, and i am on the medtronic. i go with the medtronic because it is so easy and simple to use. i did look into the omni at one point but i didn’t like the size of it on my body, whereas the medtronic was pretty flat. also with the medtronic insertion, it didn’t leave a mark like i find with the animas set.

but what ever you do you are going in the right way.

    keep on pumping! 🙂

i went to the shabbaton with my wife and at that time with one kid. r meisels main thing was to give motivation to everybody. i was an adult “councelor” and the shabbaton was for kids. we loved it and it was truly amazing. because of it we got a personal relationship with r. meisels. we even went to his house, and my kids had a blast!! (we hope to go again)

sweet- i think that is a great idea to wait. my a1c was 7.2 this last time and i think that i might be a little higher this next time. purim was a killer with all the pastries.

we weny to miamonidies for dr. jacobson and for neesha. now that they both left we go to dr. bondary. we go to her bec. we have to go to an endo. but in reality i take care of our little club. by our last appointment the educator didn’t even bother.

cofeefan- the multiclix has 6 needles in a drum, so it’s really easy to change the needle each time you test which is better b/c once you use the needle it gets a bit blunted and it is more likely to cause dots, also the needle is really thin and so much more gentle, and the whole thing is safer because the needles are inside you can’t get hurt by accident and you can throw it str8 into the garbage (no need for a sharps container)

also my kids love it because it hardly hurts.

back to dating: i would mention that “i only drink diet soda”. this way i would arouse her suspicion and she would ask me “why”.

allsgr8- listen you know he is out there. remember 40 days before someone is born…

you will see the boy will accept all of you, even a non working pancreas. you also don,t have to tell them that you have D until you feel that there is potential (3-4 dates). thats what i was told to do.

in reply to: Diabetes Support Group #980354

first of all you should all know, that i am speaking from a boy’s perspective.

when s/o in shidduchim hears about an issue, the first thing that comes to mind is- will this restrict or handicap the person in any way? so really, the first thing to do when you tell someone that you have D is to impress upon them that you are not in any way restricted, and you CAN do everything that anyone else can do.

secondly (i said this earlier), and this is how i felt, that because of the “issue,” it’s sort of a “test” for the right prince charming to accept. so in a way it was calming for me to know that the right one will accept me as i am.

and of course we want someone to accept us for who we really are.

Also, don’t ever get stuck in regreting something you said or did, after the date’s over, just know that Hashem was the One guiding the date, you didn’t mess up, whatever you said was good, it was meant to be!

reb- so hang in there and get good nights rest beforehand, and try to have fun. 🙂

first of all congrats on reaching page 22

second i have an answer for all you. if this is the right one for you reb. then we will all go to the vort and we will all meet. jk

by then it wont make much of a difference.lol

it happens to be that i am not so secretive about my D. because of this i have had many people come over to me to speak to me about their (or their child’s) situations about shidduchim. B”H i was able to help people with it. i even tried to save a shidduch explaining to them what is D (after the dr. said the wrong thing!)

bec. of this i know many people, both boys and girls, who have D. (there is even one person that i know who writes on this forum!)

for all of you in the parsha, i am married with kids so don’t let it interfere. the right one will want you as you are, for the way you are. B”h we have something that is controllable and not worse!!!

keep up the good work. 🙂

reb- i have had that experience many times with my kids. i find that this happens near the time that i have to change their sets. its because the body blockes the site (as it would when closing a wouund) so it could be that’s what happened.

once i got the pump my a1c went from around 6.5 to 7.2 because the pump is supposed to knock out the lows. this is because the variability is less (which is very good for the body)

congrats on hitting over 1000 posts!!!!!!!!!!!!! (ken yirbu)

i did try to fast, but didn’t make it. usually on yom kippur and t’ be’av (at least till chatzos) i do fast the whole thing but i do test every two hours. if i am below 100 or rapidly going down i will suspend the pump. i also decrease my basal (like mosh3 said he does). but as a teen i did not fast even on yom kipper (if i had to eat i would eat less than a kezayis every 9 minutes)

i also have to learn to take a drink of sugar when i have a low and then wait about 15 minutes for it to react. if not, i will eat the whole fridge which of course causes me to go high. tough cycle.

cofeefan- we asked a rov and he told us that you could use the remote on shabbos. also i have my pump (medtronic) clipped on to my belt which is also ok, so wherever i go (even to kiddushim) i am covered.

about integrading a cgm with the pump, they told us the an ifusion site can only be in you at most for three days, as apposed to the cgm which can be in you for a week (since there is no flow of liquid). so the companies don’t want to intergrade them bec. you eill have to change the whole set after three days when the cgm part can be in for a week. so it all boils down to MONEY!!!!!! 🙂
