Health: As Starwolf says: People need support groups for a number of reasons, whether or not the disease is controlled.

Although sometimes seizures are controlled with medications certain conditions can cause an epileptic person to have seizures. The hospitalization and finding the right medications during this time can be very hard on parents. Also, a lot of these patients usually need more than one medication in order to control the seizures. The responsibility of the parent / guardian can be very burdensome (Different medications administered at different times of the day.) The “not knowing” when a seizure will occur also adds to the stress and anxiety.

It helps to hear what others are experiencing, get helpful ideas and knowing that you’re not alone makes it so much easier to face your challenge.

Happy Holidays is the best and safest way to greet people as there are a few holidays during this time and you don’t want to offend anyone by wishing them on a holiday that they don’t believe or celebrate.

    Hi,

The following is the phone number for the support group 845-641-3731. Although 2 Chasidishe woman take care of it they both communicate very well in English, and occasionally when they have guest neurologists as speakers I assume it’s in English.

2muchtimeonmyhands – I usually get an inexpensive gift for the boy. It ranges between $5 – $10. A nice Jewish childrens story book, childrens tape, the good metal buses – that have a school or mosed’s name on it, or other interesting metal cars, trucks, and buses.

On my way back from Israel after one of my pieces of luggage went through the x-ray machine the security guard made me take it over to the main security station. I got all nervous because this specific piece of luggage contained 2 weeks worth of dirty laundry. I couldn’t stop praying to Hashem that they shouldn’t open it – as I was rightfully embarrassed. They started questioning me; The reason for my visit? How we traveled? the places I had been to? They then asked me if I might have any batteries or such things, I said I might in the front pocket.

To make a long story short they asked me if I had been to the dead sea and when I answered in the affirmative they asked if I brought back some mud or such. I reminded myself that I had a bag of mud that they provide by the beach. It appears that on the x-ray the mud looked like a kidney and they wanted to make sure I wasn’t transporting one.

I was so thankful they believed me and didn’t make me open the suitcase. I don’t know why they would have thought that I was transporting a kidney since it wasn’t laying in dried ice etc.

oomis1105 I made your mushroom quiche tonight – I changed around the amounts a little and added 2 handfuls of shredded mozzarella cheese and around 4 tbs of grated parmesan cheese and it was delicious.

Quick question: the size of the mushroom can you provided is that drained or undrained?

I always let the youngest sit on my lap when I nursed my baby. I would tell them stories, ask the older ones how their day was. It sort of made them look forward to the next time I had to nurse – that special mommy time. My closest were 23 months apart, and B”H I never had to deal with jealousy. However, as much as you think that your kid loves the new baby – never leave the baby alone with the toddler. You never know what the toddlers “love” might do.

I gotta thank Mod 42 for starting this thread. I was in the middle of baking cupcakes for my son’s birthday when I realized that I was missing 3 cupcake holders. I managed to find 2 that were doubled up however, no such luck for the third. As I’m looking around my kitchen trying to think of something that might work – this thread popped into my head.

So yes, when in desperate need of a cupcake holder coffee filters do work. I wrote desperate because they are a little too big and it doesn’t come out as pretty. (For the sake of not embarrassing my culinary skills I just had to demolish it)

On the thought of life insurance. A lot of the heimishe people buy whole life and some add PUA as an investment to help marry their kids. All financial advisers are against whole life. Their claim – get term – which can be gotten for very cheap / good rates and the extra money invest. Eventually term does become more expensive however, the money that you invested should have grown substantially. Now I know in this market money in mutual funds etc. aren’t growing substantially if anything, you might be losing some, but in the long run the market will hopefully turn around.

My husband signed up for Areivim around a year ago. I’m not sure that he had to choose a level. But what I do know is that in this year we only had to pay once $28. So. it’s not a bad thing to be part of since hopefully this will help the child get married and there won’t be a need for Hachnosas Kallah teas and parties. They won’t be put into the schnoorer category.

I use China for the adults and Corelle for the young ones. Under 2 gets plastic. I barely ever use plastic even during the week – and I don’t have a dishwasher, nor would I let my cleaning lady wash my dishes.

I do recall my husband telling me that at a shiur on Hilchus Shabbos the person giving the Shiur mentioned that officially it wasn’t so OK to use plastic since after you’re done using it – it becomes Muktza, however, since some food usually remains in the plate then it’s OK.

Jax: To me it would be considered expensive since I don’t live in the city and where I live we have grass, trees, playgrounds and pools. So going to the country would only make sense if I go to a place that serves food – and that would be quite expensive for my family. Most probably $1500 – $2000 for a week.

My husband put the following ing. into a salt shaker: salt, black pepper and paprika. He heavily sprinkles the steak (rib) with it. Puts in on the grill on high for a few min and then turns it over for another few min. You gotta be careful not to overcook as it loses the juice.

Appreciate the response, keep it coming.

jphone – as mentioned we visit our bubbys very often, and the point of this vacation is for the kids.

We would like to go for a few days – from Sunday through Tues, Wed. and we’re dealing with kids ages 2 – 9 – so I’d like to keep the driving down to just a few hours. Niagara would be to many hours in the car.

Bubby would not be considered a vacation since my kids visit their grandparents and great grandparents on a weekly basis.

By inexpensive – I’d like to keep it down to less than $1000 – that includes everything accomodations, attractions, food…

Example last year I took my kids to Lancaster PA for 3 days. I believe we spent around $500 – $700. It was a fantastic trip.

I was thinking maybe Williamsburg VA – anyone has any ideas, info, help on that.

You should have donated tonight. I’m sure Rabbi Moshe Meir Weiss might have mentioned that donating to Oorah will be a zechus for a shidduch.

I had some real great laughs reading this thread.

My husband once dated a girl that wanted to show him who would be the one wearing the pants in the house. I believe it was on the second or third date when she started to discuss things like: which Kollel he will be attending – and all the details and pros about this Kollel. If I recall correctly she even had it down to the number of years he would be learning. Which music won’t be allowed in the house – (I believe singers like MBD were mentioned) with full reasoning. About smoking,,, and some other things that I can’t recall. My husband knew that no way was he gonna let the woman wear the pants in his house. As for me, I prefer skirts.
