I guess in the spirit of Yom Kippur, some of you feel the need to judge. The problem is that none of you are Hakodosh Baruch Hu. Why judge the shver? I know that you are perfect in every aspect of your character and personality, but not all of us are. So that’s his weakness. Big deal. And why judge anyone who wants to be nice to him, and help out someone – even if you do not have that same weakness? Why judge at all? Because it’s easy to judge sitting in your comfortable chair? Being nice – above and beyond normal polite behavior – is chesed. Tzedakah is when it’s a worthy cause according to Halacha. The case can be made, pro and con, whether it is Tzedakah. But being nice, chesed, it definitely is. And let’s try not to judge.

There is much that can be said about kovod habrios, about how all of Hashems creations have their tafkid, about the story of Dovid Hamelech and the spider, etc. That being said, I cannot resist mentioning that I like Pizza, but I’ve spoken many times and pizza has never been mentioned. It might be OK to speak about the awesome responsibility of being a bas yisroel, and how lucky she is to be among Hashem’s Chosen people.

Everyone has a comfort zone – whether it’s in einyana ruchnius or einyana gashmius – or anything. And we grow by stretching ourselves to enlarge our comfort zone to include things which were previously not in there. It’s easier said than done, but the solution is to open up a little. Do it slowly. It will be rewarding.
