For goodness’ sake, you’d think the world was coming to an end.

For 99% of those 5 or so hours that the eclipse is visible (with special lenses) no discernible change is visible to people walking around. In fact if you were to forget about it and look at the sun (with special lenses) a few hours into the eclipse, you’d be surprised to see how much of the sun was covered without producing any noticible change in your surroundings.

shortly before and after the zenith it will be darker as if on a cloudy day. Around the zenith it will go dark for a short period of time – absolutely nothing to freak out about about and not the kind of thing to make anyone change their plans

    a mamin writes:

“It really isn’t pashut… please ask someone who is knowledgeable in this area. Someone who is into names, not just a Rav. “

better idea; ignore mekubollim etc who tell you that names are important and ask a rov. (or ask your rov to ask a rov who knows)

Rav Chaim Kanievski is not concidered a mekubal by any stretch but he has been known to tell people to change their names (because their given name has either no mekor in tanach or has a bad connotation, even if they are not sick).

any mekubal who will take your money to tell you who your beshert is or isn’t is not worth the money.

Rav Yehuda haChossid wrote in his tzavo’oh to his children to be makpid about names of inlaws (if i remember correctly it works equally both ways).

Although it was only written to for his children (and there are many other things he wrote they should be makpid about which we in general ignore completely) many hold that one should be makpid about this issue.

if one of you has a double-barelled name (and uses it) then there is no problem. (if you don’t use it then you can start now)

this whole article was taken word for word from Ynet’s english page.

I’m sure there was a mistranslation (intensional or not, I do not know) and the takona is probably that girls who are engaged should not wear make-up until their wedding.

none of the snif girls who are not engaged wear make-up on a daily basis (I don’t know if they are not allowed to, or its just not done) but once they are engaged some tend to.

I do not believe there is a single Kalla out there who will not wear makeup on their wedding day… there is a discussion in the gemora as to whether a kalla in the week of sheva brochos who loses a parent may wear make up or not.. surely then at the wedding there is nothing improper with wearing some.

and as for squeak who stated that he/she has been to weddings where 50% of the people wore makeup… yes, those 50% were the men.

unless he/she lives in Pakistan or Afganistan I don’t believe there are any weddings where the kalla will wear no make-up at all.
