YWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of Hagaon HaRav Meir Soloveitchik ZATZAL, the Rosh Yeshiva of Brisk in the Zichron Moshe neighborhood of Yerushalayim. He was 87 years old.
Around two weeks ago he was rushed to the hospital after having suffered a serious stroke. He remained in an unconsious state until his Petira on Motzei Shabbos.
Rav Meir was a brother of Hagaon HaRav Dovid, and uncle of Hagaon HaRav Avroham Yehoshua – the Roshei Yeshiva of Yeshivas Brisk.
The Levaya will be on Sunday morning at 11:00AM in front of his home on Rechov Chazonovitz in Yerushalayim.

BD”E – Naflah ateres rosheinu. Whenever a renown talmid chocham and marbitz Torah is niftar, it is a great loss and deserves our utmost respect, concern, and consideration. How much more so when the loss represents a link to a mesorah of generations past is it a loss of particular great magnitude. May he be a meilitz yosher for all of Klall Yisroel.
Perhaps I am mistaken, but I am quite sure that HaGaon Rav Meshulam Dovid and HaGaon Rav Avrohom Yehoshua are not both Roshei Yeshivah of one Yeshivas Brisk. HaGaon Rav Avrohom Yehoshua, the son of HaGaon Rabbi Yosef Ber (R’ Beryl) ztzvk”l who was the son of the Brisker Rav, is the Rosh Yeshiva of “Brisk.” His uncle, HaGaon Rav Meshulam Dovid is likewise a Rosh Yeshiva, but not of Brisk.
Baruch Dayan Emes
Reb Meir was a special Talmid Chochom with exceptional Middos and Ahavas Yisrael.
A link in our mesora to the previous generations.
Yehi Zichro Baruch
Shuali – Perhaps I am mistaken, but I am quite sure that neither the Eibishter nor l’havdil the Brisker Rav could care less!
Wrong time, wrong place, wrong focus!
wow such ahavas yisroal
Yeshivas Hagra”m was the name of his Yeshiva
@PloniAlmoni – You are certainly entitled to your opinion and I truly appreciate the thought and criticism. Mitzvah l’kayaim divrei ha’meis. If it were not for his tremendous midas ha’emes and the entire family’s great sensitivity to this particular matter, I would agree with you. A large donation, a check made out to Yeshivas Brisk, was once given to Rav Dovid as an expression of hakoras ha’Tov. He did not accept as he is not Yeshivas Brisk, and quickly routed the donation in the right direction, to his nephew Rav Avrohom Yehoshua. The post was not meant as a political statement, but rather as a testimonial to the family and out of respect for them.
Shuali, in this context, does it matter?
Shauli-go do some research-the heilige Brisker Rov Zl was also not a Rosh Hayeshiva.
Those who know Brisk now that these aren’t what count.
The Rov had ten talmidim around his dining room table.
B.D.E. is what we say!
THey are both Rosh YEshiva of brisk SO what its 2 different yeshivas. the oliam likes to say that the real brisk is Reb AY because hes the son of R berel but thats all a bunch of nonsense and it looks better on the resume if you went to R AY thats maybe the only difference there is
To all of my well meaning critics. I am so sorry that I was misunderstood. I did indeed begin by saying BD”E (@lamdan). I was not making a political statement nor weighing in on which Yeshiva gets better shidduchim (such butter nonsense). I was simply correcting a mistake about which the family is very serious about as I wrote regarding the check. It’s not simply that HaGaon Rav Avrohom Yehoshua is HaGaon Rav Beryl’s son. HaGaon Rav Meshulam Dovid insists on this as well; that he is NOT the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Brisk. I was simply trying to make an editorial correction and one which the family would make as well.
@Mylar Thank you.
@lamdan He started with ten, but it grew considerably. Secondly, what’s the point?
Anyway, again I apologize for the terrible misunderstanding.
Bramo – you hit it spot-on. Ask all the ones who really knew… if you truly wanted something like the “Brisker Rav” ZTL. Rav Meir was the closest you can get. Yes, names are just nice on resumes..
BDE!!
